Aramid X, explosive pop and maximum speed to go all in on surf freestyle.

Overview

The Droid Aramid X 2027 is an explosive, fast and ultra-precise wing, designed for riders who want to push surf freestyle, big air and committed freeride at the highest intensity. Its compact shape, Aramid structure and very stiff canopy create an immediate connection with the wing: every input is instantly turned into acceleration, pop or a change of line.

As soon as you sheet in, the Droid delivers solid, powerful drive. The forward, concentrated draft lets you load up hard before a jump, while the surface area brought forward generates the torque needed to accelerate quickly and extend hangtime. The power delivery stays perfectly readable, so you can commit with precision.

The Aramid X construction gives this wing its whole character. The leading edge and strut in Aramid hold the shape firmly, while the very stiff canopy transmits inputs instantly. Pumping is very direct, acceleration is crisp and pop is explosive, with precise control as load and speed increase.

The refined rear two-thirds and open tips free up the glide and let the Droid keep accelerating. The refined tips reduce inertia to keep the wing lively through rotations, fast in transitions and easy to reposition after a trick.

The boom-specific strut completes this connection with a consistent, precise response across the entire grip zone. The continuous grip lets you move your hands instantly and naturally find your hold again through rotations, transitions or before a landing.

The Droid Aramid X 2027 brings together explosive pop, speed, responsiveness and maximum precision in a Pro Team Series wing built for riders who want to turn every input into performance.

GONG | Wing Droid Aramid X - Pro Team Series
Shape
Strut

The Droid Aramid X 2027 features an Aramid strut, designed entirely around the boom to deliver direct, precise and highly responsive handling. Its triple-section construction progressively supports the load, while its diameter continuously tapers towards the rear. The profile is maintained over around 45% of the strut, then the rear third thins out significantly to free up glide. Aramid’s low deformation allows this geometry to remain very stable when the wing is loaded, with immediate transmission of the rider’s input.

Profile

The 2027 Droid Aramid X features a slightly tighter profile through the front section to cut through the air more efficiently and unlock acceleration. The draft is concentrated at a precise point to deliver solid drive and perfectly readable feedback through the boom. Over the rear two-thirds, the profile is noticeably refined to lighten back-hand pressure and support the build-up of speed. The Aramid structure holds this geometry precisely under load to keep the wing locked-in, fast and highly direct, with progressive sheeting and easy, precise control.

Outline

The Droid Aramid X 2027 keeps its wingspan and overall chord, while redistributing the surface area towards the centre and front of the wing. This geometry delivers well-directed pull, torque and sharp acceleration, while preserving the compact format that defines the Droid’s DNA. The Aramid structure reinforces this outline’s hold under load and makes power transfer more direct: pumping is incisive, the wing loads up quickly for pop, and the wing retains the lift needed to support jumps.

Tips

The tips of the Droid Aramid X 2027 feature a natural opening that lets them spill more effectively under load and free up the airflow. Their refined shape reduces inertia at the extremities, while the Aramid structure enhances the wing’s precision and stability in high-speed phases. The Droid therefore gains in glide, upwind ability and responsiveness, with fast rotations and very direct repositioning through transitions, tricks and surf.

100% backward-compatible GFS system

At GONG, backward compatibility is at the heart of our product development. No customer should be left behind without a solution. That’s why we’ve worked hard to offer booms that still fit our first-generation 2023 GFS wings.

More than a promise, it’s a fact. No adapter needed: simply swap your 2023 boom for this excellent clip-in boom.

Image
Image

Panoramic view

Clear visibility is essential for safety, which is why we’ve designed the wing to give you a panoramic view from your riding position.
Four large PVC windows centered on the canopy, plus a PVC window on the sail panel, give you an exceptional view at a glance.
These PVC panels integrate seamlessly into the wing’s profile and are highly resistant to cold and creasing.

Image

Shape Evolutions

The Droid Aramid X 2027 retains the compact, powerful and responsive DNA of the 2026 model, with an updated shape for improved acceleration, glide and control under load.

The front profile is flatter, with the camber concentrated further forward for solid, better-directed pull. Compared to the 2026 model, the rear two-thirds are significantly slimmer, reducing back-hand pressure, allowing smoother acceleration and making sheeting in and out more progressive.

The surface area has been redistributed towards the center and front without changing the overall wingspan or chord length. The Droid retains its compact design while delivering more torque, pop and hangtime. The tips have also been extensively redesigned: almost tucking in under load on the 2026 model, they now feature a more open, refined geometry that promotes depowering, glide and quick rotations.

The 2027 Boom strut completes this evolution with a three-section design, a progressively decreasing diameter and a profile maintained over approximately 45% of its length, followed by a highly refined rear third. Combined with the Aramid structure, this geometry ensures a direct, precise response even under heavy load.

The result: a faster, more planted Droid Aramid X with greater freedom in rotations, delivering the same explosive power but making it much easier to convert into speed and pop.

Image

One Pump Max Flow System

The new Max Flow System improves airflow between the leading edge and the center strut with a redesigned valve and a higher-flow One Pump hose. Air transfers faster during inflation, helping the wing pressurize more efficiently and evenly.

The system retains the simplicity of One Pump while reducing setup time before your session. Once the wing is inflated, you can still shut off airflow between the bladders to isolate them.

Image

Six micro battens

The Droid Aramid X 2027 now has six micro battens, up from four, for better trailing-edge stability.

The added support reduces flutter and helps the wing hold its shape as speed or load increases.

The result is smooth, consistent handling and more controlled pull, even during demanding maneuvers.

Pro Team Series Aramid X Wings technology

The Pro Team Series Aramid X Wings are designed to deliver maximum connection between the rider and the wing. Their Aramid leading edge and central strut form a lightweight, stiff structure that remains extremely stable under load. This structure is paired with a Code 95 canopy, an extremely stiff, virtually stretch-free woven fabric that precisely maintains the profile as speed and pressure increase.

This combination takes performance to another level: the shape stays locked-in, rider inputs are transmitted instantly, and every impulse can be converted into pumping, acceleration, pop or a change of direction. While the Team Series Aramid retains the progressive response of Triple Ripstop, the Aramid X prioritizes a much more direct and responsive feel.

This technology comes directly from the development of our competition wings. Shapes, materials, fiber orientations and assembly methods are developed together by our R&D team, engineers and Team riders to create a coherent construction in which the inflatable structure and canopy work as one.

Summary of key points:

  • 85 g/m² Aramid leading edge and central strut for a lightweight, stiff and highly responsive structure.

Buying guide

Who is it for?

The 2027 Droid Aramid X is aimed at independent riders looking for a wing that is high-performance, fast and precise for freestyle, jumps, committed freeride and surf-freestyle.

It really comes into its own when you start actively working the wing: loading up before a jump, pumping hard, accelerating, pointing high or linking rotations quickly. The Aramid structure makes every input very direct and instantly readable.

What for?

Its main programme is surf-freestyle and jumps, with a compact shape, plenty of pop and excellent freedom through rotations.

It is also highly effective for fast freeride and in light wind thanks to its direct pumping, torque and ability to build speed quickly. Its slippery profile and refined tips also help retain plenty of mobility in the waves.

Why choose an Aramid X construction?

The Aramid leading edge and strut give the Neutra a lightweight, stiff structure that remains exceptionally stable under load. The wing transmits rider inputs directly and precisely maintains its shape, while preserving the neutrality and smoothness essential for surfing and freefly.

On the water, this translates into sharp pumping response, powerful acceleration and exceptional precision through changes of direction. The wing responds instantly to every input, then stays out of the way when depowered, letting you surf freely.

The Code 95 canopy, extremely stiff and virtually stretch-free, significantly reduces deformation and maintains the profile under load. Unlike the Team Series Aramid, which features a more progressive Triple Ripstop canopy, the Pro Team Series Aramid X prioritizes ultra-direct response and maximum efficiency. The Neutra Aramid X delivers an exceptional connection for committed, precise waveriding without compromising glide.

Understanding the Droid range

Choose the Droid Perf Series if you want the Droid shape in an accessible, durable and versatile Dacron construction.

Choose the Droid Aramid if you are looking for more structural stiffness, precision, pop and speed, while keeping the smooth feel of Triple Ripstop.

Choose the Droid Light if your main priority is low perceived weight and efficiency from the very first breath of wind, with a wing that feels especially lively in surf-freestyle.

Choose a Droid Aramid X / Pro Team Series if you want an even more direct and radical response thanks to a canopy that is also heavily stiffened. The Droid Aramid Team Series remains the preferred choice for combining high performance and comfort across a wide range of conditions.

What size should you choose?

Choose your size according to your weight, level, the wind, and the efficiency of your foil and board.

Thanks to its excellent pumping transfer and quick acceleration, the Droid Aramid makes efficient use of its surface area. So avoid systematically oversizing it in search of power: a well-matched size will retain more speed, manoeuvrability and freedom through rotations.

A larger size will be interesting for maximising early take-off in light wind. A more compact size will be especially enjoyable for freestyle and when the wind picks up.

Refer to the wind range chart to choose your size precisely.

Which foil with the Droid Aramid X?

In the V3 Atmo range, the Fluid makes for a particularly coherent pairing. Fast, lively and manoeuvrable, it matches the dynamic character of the Droid with rail-to-rail response, pop and very punchy transitions.

For a more accessible and versatile approach, the Curve V3 Atmo brings more ease while still delivering carving and glide.

To clearly push the cursor towards high-performance freestyle, the Ypra Freestyle V3 Atmo is the most specialised pairing: speed before take-off, pop, control in jumps and precise handling at high speed. It uses the Micro V3 Atmo fuselage.

Which board with the Droid Aramid X?

The Stunt Hollow Carbon is a natural choice for a surf-freestyle programme. Its shape is designed for sending tricks while keeping freedom in the carves, a very coherent match with the dynamic versatility of the Droid Aramid X.

The Hyperloop Hollow Carbon is the dedicated choice for pure freestyle. Its Hollow construction greatly reduces inertia and delivers a particularly direct response in rotations, pop and foot repositioning.

For a programme with more of a surf and freeride focus, the Lemon Hollow Carbon brings a compact and playful approach.

If your priority shifts towards light wind and glide on take-off, a longer board from the Cruzader Point family will let you make efficient use of the Droid’s efficiency with less effort on take-off. The 2027 Hollow range notably includes a Cruzader Point LW dedicated to light wind.

Which boom should you choose?

The Droid Aramid X is designed exclusively around a boom and remains compatible with GFS V2 and GFS V3 systems.

The Carbon Boom offers the best balance of stiffness, lightness, precision and versatility. It is the obvious choice for getting the most out of the Droid Aramid X across all its programmes.

The Full Carbon Boom pushes the connection even further. Its full carbon construction delivers maximum stiffness and extremely direct handling, particularly interesting when you are looking for absolute precision in freestyle.

The 2-Piece Carbon Boom prioritises ease of transport while retaining a stiff connection once assembled. It is especially practical for travel and storage. Current generations notably include standard GFS V3 CLIP IN versions and 2-piece removable versions.

Which leash?

A 5’5 to 8’ wing leash will suit the vast majority of uses.

A short leash lets you recover the wing quickly after a fall, which is particularly useful in freestyle when attempts come one after another. A longer leash leaves more distance between the foil and the wing during a fall.

Check its condition regularly and replace it as soon as it shows signs of wear. The leash is an essential part of your safety setup.

Do not leave your wing unnecessarily flapping in the wind at the end of the leash, and never try to hold the wing back abruptly by the leash in the waves.

Harness or not?

The Droid works perfectly without a harness for freestyle, surf and highly mobile sessions, where you want to be able to move the wing freely and change position quickly.

For fast freeride, long reaches, or when you are riding well powered, a harness will, on the other hand, take a lot of strain off your arms and let you use the wing’s power for longer.

All our wings feature dedicated attachment points for harness lines. Start with a generous length to make hooking in and out easier, then gradually reduce the length as you gain experience.

Go for a lightweight, low-bulk harness along with a thin line dedicated to wing use. The goal is to relieve the arms without limiting freedom of movement, especially in transitions and tricks.

Lines with 24 to 28 cm between the strut and the bottom of the V will be perfect. A length of 30 to 32 cm makes getting started easier. A small-diameter rope and thin tubing are essential because windsurf lines, for example, are too heavy and stiff, and therefore dangerous in tacks and other tricks.

What mistakes should you avoid?

Do not choose the Droid Aramid X just because it sits higher in the range. Its real value appears when your level allows you to make the most of its precision, pumping and direct response.

Also avoid choosing too large a size to compensate for a foil or board that is not well suited to light wind. A coherent setup will be far more effective than a wing that is systematically oversized.

Finally, respect the recommended inflation pressures. An Aramid structure offers excellent shape retention, so there is no need to try to artificially increase its stiffness by overinflating the wing.

Already equipped: why add a Droid Aramid X?

The Droid Aramid X really comes into its own if you already know the Droid and want to take the level of connection and performance clearly up a notch.

The difference is noticeable from the very first pumps: direct pumping, a wing that stays very settled as speed builds, immediate pop and precision in line changes. The Aramid structure allows the Droid shape to fully express its potential, while the Triple Ripstop keeps enough progression to stack up sessions and attempts.

This is the Droid to choose when your priority becomes speed, pop, precision and high-performance surf-freestyle, with a level of demand that still remains manageable day to day.

5 windows

The Droid Aramid X 2027 features five windows distributed across the canopy to maintain good visibility of your surroundings without affecting the wing’s behaviour. Their positioning helps you better anticipate other riders, obstacles and lines during take-offs, transitions or close-quarters riding. A real plus for learning, progressing and riding with confidence, while keeping a wing that is light, balanced and easy to handle.

Semi-rigid downwind textile handle

Almost rigid, the downwind handle offers a more precise and more direct grip to improve wing control in freefly and in surf. It gives you better one-handed control of the wing while keeping enough flex to stay comfortable during depowered phases.

The new oval stitching and the added reinforcements at the anchor points distribute loads more efficiently across the leading edge, improving the durability of the whole assembly.

The Dyneema leash attachment is now positioned on the canopy side of the handle. This keeps the leash clearer of the grip area and reduces interference with your hands in freefly.

Fast inflation with the One Pump Max Flow system

The leading edge and central strut are connected by the One Pump system to inflate the whole wing quickly from a single valve. Once the wing is pressurised, the clip allows the two bladders to be isolated so the wing retains buoyancy in the event of damage to the strut or leading edge.

A second valve is built into the strut to speed up deflation. Simply open the leading edge and strut valves to release the air quickly and make folding and packing easier.

To preserve the wing’s structure, always make sure to deflate the strut at the same time as the leading edge and never leave the strut pressurised on its own.

Fiberglass mini battens

Fiberglass mini battens are integrated into the trailing edge to effectively reduce flutter and maintain the profile all the way to the end of the canopy.

They stabilise the trailing edge, improve profile hold and promote cleaner airflow to keep the wing precise and efficient, even as speed increases.

Light, durable and easy to replace, they also make it easy to maintain your wing and preserve its performance over time.

Camera safety loops

Discreet nylon safety attachments are integrated on each tip and near the strut to secure your camera when it is mounted on the leading edge or on the strut with a suitable mount.

Their positioning is designed to keep the leash out of the camera’s field of view and avoid any interference while riding. This lets you film your sessions from several angles with a clean, secure setup, without the risk of losing your camera in a crash.

Repair kit

A repair kit is supplied with your wing so you can carry out standard repairs and extend its lifespan.

It includes patches suited to bladders and fabrics, handy for quick repairs in the event of a small puncture, cut or tear.

Carry bag

The wing comes with a practical, durable carry bag designed to make packing, transport and storage between sessions easier.

Its volume makes it easy to pack the folded wing with its accessories, while its compact format makes getting to the spot easier and limits bulk in the vehicle or at home. Please note, the bag is not compatible with a wing packed with the boom fitted.

10 years of spare parts availability

Frequent questions
Who is the Droid Aramid X 2027 for?

The Droid Aramid X 2027 is aimed at experienced riders looking for a wing that is very fast, explosive and ultra precise for surf freestyle, jumps, big air and committed freeride.

It really comes into its own when you want to make the most of every input: loading up hard before a jump, pumping with intensity, accelerating instantly and maintaining very precise control through rotations and landings.

What is the difference between the Droid Aramid X 2027 and the Droid Aramid X 2026?

The Droid Aramid X 2027 retains the compact, radical and highly direct character of the previous generation, with a reworked shape to gain acceleration, glide and control under load.

The front profile is slightly tightened and the draft is more concentrated towards the front to deliver solid, well-directed support. The rear two thirds are refined to free up glide, lighten back-hand pressure and make sheeting in and out more progressive.

The surface area has been redistributed towards the centre and front to boost torque, acceleration and hangtime. The tips have also been opened up and refined to improve spill and reduce inertia.

The Boom strut has evolved with a triple section, a tapered diameter and a profile maintained over around 45% of its length. Combined with the Aramid structure and the Code 95 canopy, this geometry delivers a wing that is extremely locked-in, fast and precise at high speed.

Is it suited to freestyle and jumps?

Yes, that’s its main purpose.

The forward draft gives a very defined platform to load up for pop, while the surface area shifted towards the front delivers the torque and acceleration needed before take-off.

The Aramid X construction transfers the rider’s input instantly and keeps the profile locked in under load. The refined tips free up rotations, while the well-oriented pull promotes explosive pop, hangtime and control all the way through the landing.

How does it perform in light wind?

The Droid Aramid X is particularly effective at turning pumping into acceleration.

Its very stiff structure and low-stretch canopy transmit input directly, while the surface area centred further forward generates the torque needed to get the board up to speed quickly.

Once flying, its efficient profile helps maintain speed and punch through lulls effectively. Paired with the right board and foil, it delivers excellent efficiency in light wind.

How does it handle when the wind picks up?

The Droid Aramid X reveals its full potential as speed and load increase.

The refined rear two-thirds and open tips allow you to release the power progressively, while the Aramid structure and Code 95 canopy hold the profile with great precision.

The wing stays locked-in, fast and extremely precise, with very direct handling in gusts and committed riding.

What does the Aramid X construction bring compared with the Droid Aramid?

Both versions use an Aramid structure on the leading edge and the strut. The main difference lies in the canopy.

The Droid Aramid uses a 54 g/m² Triple Ripstop, which retains a softer, more progressive feel.

The Droid Aramid X uses a much stiffer, very low-stretch Code 95 canopy. The profile stays more locked in under load and transfers the rider's input more directly.

The Aramid X therefore delivers more punch, precision, pop and instant response, with a sportier, more demanding feel on the water.

Why is the 2027 Boom strut specific?

The strut is designed entirely around the boom to deliver a very direct, consistent connection across the entire grip zone.

Its triple-section construction controls how it works under load, while its diameter tapers progressively towards the rear. The profile is maintained over around 45% of its length, then the rear third thins out to free up glide.

The connection between the leading edge and the strut has also been refined to distribute loads precisely and transmit pumping input efficiently.

Can you use handles on the Droid Aramid X 2027?

No.

The Droid Aramid X is designed exclusively for use with a boom. Its strut geometry and handling have been developed specifically for this continuous grip. If you're looking for a Droid with handles, you'll need to go for an RH version compatible with that type of grip.
