The super playful wings to get started and progress!
Introduction
The X-Over will be the wing on which you’ll learn how to take off, stabilize the flight and nail your first maneuvers.
The X-Over is the reassuring front wing that will facilitate your first flights on a foil, be it on wing, surf, SUP or kite foiling equipment.
Its ultra-smooth take-off, its stability, its control and its predictable character make it the perfect front wing to quickly learn how to sail with a wing or a kite, or make your first long down the line waves on a surf or SUP foiling board. The X-Over supports your progression in every perspective. It allows you to take off early, to have a blast surfing, pump, make thrilling turns and go pretty fast in relation to its volume. It is an accessible shape, efficient for its volume and which will excel in all foiling disciplines: winging, prone foiling, SUP foiling, dockstarts…
The great strength of this front wing is its versatility over time. Perfect for your first flights, its glide and forgiveness will allow you to go very far in your progression without having to upgrade your foil. Nothing is off the table with this front wing so have as much fun as you can with it. It’s a front wing on which you’ll be surefooted so go for it.
With its early and gentle takeoff, there is no need to pump the wing frantically: everything happens very naturally. The wing is predictable and does not create excessive lift. You don’t have to put all your weight on the front foot to stabilize yourself. It is really the perfect wing to discover the sensations of foiling.
Its very modern profile opens up a very wide range of use. It accepts flying at very low speed without stalling but also impressive speeds for this kind of shape.
The X-Over is very stable but not locked. Thanks to its twisted tips and its negative dihedral, it is really a playful but very predictable foil that switches from one rail to another very easily. It is really a foil that will accompany you for a very long time in your progression without ever restraining you.
In winging, the foil gets off your mind: no need to be ultra focused on your stance. It allows you to be more focused on the wing. For most beginners, it is a welcome comfort to be able to concentrate almost exclusively on the handling of the wing.
In surfing, the X-Over is very forgiving. When you’re still learning how to properly place the foil in the power zone of the wave to not be overwhelmed, you need a docile and predictable foil. These are exactly the qualities of the X-Over. Once you have this knowledge under your belt, its maneuverability allows you to make solid surf turns. This front wing really excels in soft waves and average conditions to the point that some experienced members of the GONG Team use it over other models for its maneuverability / lift ratio. It allows solid turns and pumps easily even with a small surface area.
Pumping the X-Over is ultra easy and very forgiving, making it a great wing for beginners in dock starts or for their first connected wave in surf foiling! The movement should be very vertical, and very cool; ideal for slowly developing a perfect pumping technique.
With an X-Over Stab, the wing will be very stable in pitch, it will be a great combo for learning to foil and have a very forgiving behavior. For riders of an intermediate level, we can also mount a Curve Stab, which has a shorter span, to have a more playful foil.

For whom?
You saw a bunch of riders having a blast and you want to join the party? The X-Over is a perfect entry point to get into foiling and evolve, be it in wing, kite, surf or SUP foiling!
What For?
Discover the world of foiling, stabilize the flight, send your first maneuvers, but above all to have a versatile foil that works in all conditions and for all foiling disciplines!
In detail for each sport:
- In wing foiling: The X-Over will make your life easier on takeoffs, teach you how to stabilize the flight, head upwind and help you nail your first jibes, tacks and jumps!
- In surf foiling: The X-Over is perfect for a soft and progressive take-off, good turns on the wave and pump for your first connections with the next coming wave.
- For dock starts: The X-Over will be perfect for making successful first starts and starting to cover nice distances on pure leg strength.
- In kite foiling: The X-Over will be perfect for your first sessions, not having to be flying at a frightening Mach 12 speed, and for learning transitions in flight.
Which size?
The X-Over front wings can fit all rider sizes.
The M has a 75 cm wingspan and a surface area of 1000 cm2.
- In wing foiling, it is a small wing for light riders.
- In surf foiling, it is a small wing for light riders.
- In kite foiling, it is a very versatile wing that lifts even at very low speed.
The L has a 85 cm wingspan and a surface area of 1300 cm2.
- In wing foiling, it is an average wing for those under 75kg.
- In surf foiling, it is an average wing for those under 75kg.
The XL has a 95 cm wingspan and a surface area of 1650 cm2.
- In wing foiling, it is a large wing for people between 75 and 85 kg.
- In surf foiling, it is a large wing for people between 75 and 85 kg.
The XXL has a 105 cm wingspan and a surface area of 2050 cm2.
- In wing foiling, it is a great wing for people over 85kg and light wind.
- In surf foiling, it is a great wing for people over 85kg and small waves.
General: a bigger front wing will be used in low ranges, in soft conditions. And conversely a smaller front wing in stronger conditions. What you need to remember is that the choice of your wing depends on your size, which requires lift, and your average speed, which generates lift.
Understand our foil range
Which stab?
We recommend using X-Over stabs with all X-Over front wings. Do not use stabs that have a smallish surface area.
This table allows you to easily identify which stab you should use for each front wing, or which stab for a quiver of several X-Over front wings.

Which Quiver?
With an X-Over, an aluminum mast is enough because the wingspan of these wings is compact. But it is obvious that with a carbon mast you will gain a lot of stiffness, especially on tight turns with large sizes like the XXL.
In surf foiling, you can use any board from our range, depending on your surfing level and your physical condition. The Lance will be perfect on your first sessions but it can be used very well with a shorter perf board.
Ditto in wing foiling, a beginner will appreciate a longer board to take off easily but we will try to reduce the length for maneuvers and to manage the chop.
For SUP foiling downwinders, it will work very well with a Flint or aZuma which will allow you to have a very smooth takeoff on the wave.
Positioning of the foil ?
For the GONG foils, place the top plate at the rear third of the US rails for surf, SUP and kite. Place it in the middle of the US rails when using it with a wing foil.
The more you move it forward, the more it makes the board pitch up. The further you move it backwards, the more the nose of the board dives.
Be careful not to move it too far forward. We often tend to forget to use the back foot, especially when we have a kite foil background. However, moving the foil back a little forces you to put more weight on the back foot and gives a more harmonious attitude and reduces effort.
