For a smooth transition from a twin tip to a surfboard.

Answer the call of the waves with the board that will let you surf like a pro. Because that’s exactly what surf kiting is about: gaining relatively easy access to sensations usually reserved for experienced surfers.

Another major advantage, one that matters to many kitesurfers, is that riding a surfboard is more comfortable and less physically demanding, especially on your knees and ankles, than riding a twin tip.

Here are the directional boards we recommend to get started.

What makes a good beginner board?

For a smooth transition from a twin tip to a surfboard, you need a stable, forgiving board that tolerates mistakes during maneuvers. Your new challenge on a directional board will be learning jibes and tacks, which now involve switching your feet.

A fairly wide outline and well-distributed volume will help you master these quickly. More volume under the front foot makes it easier to work on these maneuvers while moving your feet. Volume also helps with acceleration and during your first wave rides, where the main challenge is maintaining consistent speed and smooth, flowing turns.

Quad setups (four fins), like those found on the Matata and the Pie, deliver the acceleration and grip you’re used to from a twin tip, without having to overpower yourself. A surfboard also significantly extends the low-end range of your kite.

Which board should you choose?

In our range, three boards are particularly well suited to beginners. Each one stands out in its own way:

  • Directional beginner & light wind: the Matata, for ultra-early planing and easy upwind performance.

  • Surf and strapless beginner: the Pie, with an easy, ultra-fun shape that’s perfect for learning maneuvers.

  • Strapless & freestyle beginner: the Catch, offering maximum stability and the best chances of landing your tricks, whatever your foot position.

These boards, among which the Pie and Catch are also available in HDCC construction, are also great options for experienced kitesurfers looking to have fun in specific conditions or with a more versatile program than the more radical boards in the range.
