Foil Tail Shaft V3 ATMO - Team Series - Lower M / Black Second Hand 14990

Description

Programme

The composite beam that lets you fine-tune the wheelbase, incidence and architecture of your Tail Wing while maintaining perfectly integrated hydrodynamics.

Overview

The Tail Shaft V3 Atmo Team Series is the central component of the V3 Atmo adjustable rear system.

A true structural composite beam, it connects the fuselage to the Shim Tail and transfers loads over a significant length. It directly contributes to the aircraft’s longitudinal stiffness, steering precision and the foil’s faithful response.

Its strength lies in combining extremely fine tuning with flawless hydrodynamics. The Tail Shaft, Shim Tail and Tail Wing are designed as one continuous assembly. The incidence adjustment is integrated into a rigid, profiled part, with no step, cavity, excess thickness or semi-flexible part likely to disturb the flow.

It replaces the simpler carbon tail and shim setup with an assembly that is stiffer, more hydrodynamic and more precise. The goal is clear: reduce losses, improve load transfer and deliver angle adjustment that is perfectly integrated into the foil’s line.

Available in Upper and Lower versions, and in Short, Medium and Long, the Tail Shaft lets you adapt the foil’s behaviour to your setup, your programme and your tail wing. Each configuration can be paired with a dedicated Shim Tail, with several angles available to fine-tune the foil’s trim.

With +1°, 0°, -0.5°, -1°, -2° and -3° shims, you can refine your setup to suit your needs: more lift and comfort, more neutrality, or more freedom and speed. The adjustment is not random, it becomes a real performance key.

Its rigid construction and optimal hydrodynamic integration deliver a more direct response underfoot. The foil reacts more cleanly, pressure is transferred more effectively, and the glide feels purer. You feel fewer disturbances, more continuity, more precision.

This Team Series version features a 12K carbon finish, consistent with the front wings and stabs in the Team Series range. It delivers an excellent level of stiffness, precision and efficiency,

The Tail Shaft is the foundation of perfect tuning, with glide firmly in its sights.

Understanding Shim Tail Angles

To mount your tail wing, you will need to add Shim Tails to allow for direct adjustment of the tail wing's angle of attack.

The range offers several angles: +1°, 0°, -0.5°, -1°, -2°, and -3°, also in Upper and Lower versions.

Each Shim Tail is identified by clear markings, for example, for Uppers: U+1°, U0°, U-0.5°. And for example for Lowers: L+1°, L0°, L-0.5°, etc.

To understand these numbers, remember that they lower or raise the front of your tail wing. For example, +1° will raise the leading edge of your tail wing by 1°. And -3° will lower the leading edge of your tail wing by 3°.

Thus, the more a tail wing dives nose-down (negative number), the more it forces the nose of your board to lift. And vice versa.
This system allows for precise modification of the foil's behavior:

  • a negative angle number provides more lift, easier take-off, more front foot pressure, more pop/repop, more rhythmic and powerful pumping, and reduces turning radii. With a wing, a lowkite, or a kite in hand, this additional support also helps counter traction and more efficiently convert wing power into foil acceleration;
  • a 0-numbered angle offers the ideal balanced behavior according to our calculations, the one you would put on a single-piece stabilizer. 0° corresponds to the reference incidence designed for this model, integrated into the Tail Wing support that sits against the Shim Tail. This is not necessarily a horizontal Tail Wing relative to the fuselage;
  • a positive angle number flattens the entire plane or even noses it down. It reduces front foot pressure, requires back foot pressure when accelerating, consequently will saturate at Vmax, lengthen turning radii, and favors glide without traction in hand. Remember that it will take off later and collapse at high speeds, but will limit strong nose-ups in bump descents, for example.

The exact effects always depend on the Tail Wing, its size, the profile of the Front Wing, and the length of the Tail Shaft. The same degree does not produce exactly the same intensity of adjustment on all planes.

The main advantage of the Shim Tail is to integrate this adjustment into a rigid and perfectly profiled metal part. The behavior of the foil can be profoundly transformed without creating play, without compressible parts, and without breaking the hydrodynamic line.

Foil Tail Shaft V3 ATMO - Team Series - Lower M / Black Second Hand 14990 Lower / M / Black

Buying guide

Who is it for?

The Tail Shaft V3 Atmo Team Series is aimed at riders who want to fine-tune their foil's behaviour with a connection that is stiffer, more precise and more hydrodynamic than a Carbon Tail setup with a shim.

It is the logical choice for riders looking to gain precision, efficiency and glide quality, whether in freefly, downwind, pumping, surf foiling, SUP foiling, wave riding, wing foiling, lowkite, kite foiling, freestyle or race.

The Tail Shaft retains all the Tail Wing incidence adjustment options, but integrates them into a cleaner, more direct and higher-performing structural architecture in the water.

It suits both progressing riders who want to adapt their foil to their technique and experts looking for very precise tuning based on their stance, board, discipline and personal preferences.

It is a part for those who want to go further with foil tuning: refine front foot pressure, free up glide, gain stability, alter the drive, tighten up carves or make the aircraft feel more playful.

Why?

The Tail Shaft is used to connect a Tail Wing to the V3 fuselage with a setup that is structural, stiff, adjustable and perfectly hydrodynamic all at once.

Paired with a Shim Tail, it allows precise adjustment of the Tail Wing incidence without using a flat shim that can compress or create a poor transition. The Tail Shaft, the Shim Tail and the Tail Wing form a system designed to maintain a continuous rear line in every configuration.

The range includes Shim Tails in +1°, 0°, -0.5°, -1°, -2° and -3°, available in Upper and Lower versions, with clear markings: U+1°, U0°, U-0.5°, U-1°, U-2°, U-3° or L+1°, L0°, L-0.5°, L-1°, L-2°, L-3°.

A more negative angle increases the Tail Wing's nose-up effect. It brings more front foot pressure, makes take-off easier, boosts pop and repop, and delivers more rhythmic, more powerful pumping.

0° corresponds to the reference incidence defined for each Tail Wing. It is the best starting point for discovering its behaviour before fine-tuning the setup.

A more positive angle reduces the Tail Wing's lift and lets the foil run more freely. It reduces front foot pressure, lengthens trajectories, self-regulates balanced pressure and promotes glide without pull in the hands.

The Tail Shaft therefore allows you to deeply adapt the foil without changing Tail Wing: more stable, more playful, more guided, freer, or better suited to the presence or absence of pull. It is a true aircraft tuning component, not just a simple adapter.

Tail Shaft Upper or Lower

The choice between Tail Shaft Upper and Tail Shaft Lower depends on the Tail Wing used and its mounting architecture.

Both systems follow the same logic: offering a stiff, adjustable and hydrodynamically integrated connection between the fuselage and the Tail Wing.

A Tail Shaft Upper works exclusively with a Shim Tail Upper and a Tail Wing Upper.

A Tail Shaft Lower works exclusively with a Shim Tail Lower and a Tail Wing Lower.

Both Upper and Lower fit the same standard V3 fuselage.

The Upper architecture places the Tail Wing above the Shim Tail. It offers better protection for the rear wing against contact with the bottom. It is particularly relevant for beach starts, surf foiling, freestyle, wave riding and riding in shallow water.

The Lower architecture places the Tail Wing below the Shim Tail. It keeps it further away from the water surface and from the disturbed wake of the Front Wing. This reduces the risk of ventilation and promotes very pure glide in downwind, pumping, freefly or high-performance freeride. On the other hand, a Tail Wing Lower sits closer to the bottom and requires more care during launches and when crossing shallow areas.

The Upper and Lower architectures are not interchangeable. You must always choose the Tail Shaft and the Shim Tail that match the intended Tail Wing setup.

Which Tail Shaft length?

Tail Shafts are available in three lengths: Short, Medium and Long.

The Tail Shaft length directly influences the aircraft's wheelbase, and therefore its longitudinal stability, pitch liveliness, drive, carve radius and manoeuvrability.

The Tail Shaft Short shortens the wheelbase. The foil becomes more playful, more manoeuvrable and more responsive. It turns tighter, promotes pop and repop, and reacts faster to pressure changes. In return, it requires more precision to stabilise the trim.

The Tail Shaft Medium offers the best compromise between stability, manoeuvrability and drive. It is the reference length for discovering a Tail Wing, comparing several setups or keeping a foil balanced across most disciplines.

The Tail Shaft Long increases the Tail Wing's lever arm. It brings more longitudinal stability, greater control at high speed and a more progressive, more guided feel. It is particularly interesting for glide, downwind, freefly, steady pumping or Front Wings that require more linearity.

In short: choose the Short to maximise liveliness and tight carves, the Medium for versatile balance, and the Long to increase stability, drive and control.

Let's talk angles:

To make the angle choices and their effects even clearer, here is a short didactic list:

  • U+1°, L+1°: less front foot pressure than the Tail Wing profile's calculated optimum. It will require you to push more through the back foot or move the foil forward.
  • U0°, L0°: optimum balance according to our calculations. Note that this is not a zero Tail Wing angle relative to horizontal, but no added or removed angle relative to the calculated optimum used as the setting on one-piece stabs. It may be 2° to 4° natively built into the Tail Wing mount relative to horizontal.
  • U-0.5°, L-0.5°: you add a little more front foot pressure, the foil feels more eager and more lively.
  • U-1°, L-1°: the difference is noticeable, the foil becomes more front-footed, some riders will need to move it back or shift their hips well forward. This setting lets you push hard through the front foot without collapsing nose down, so you can sheet in hard and load against the rig.
  • U-2°, L-2°: same effects as at -1° but XXL, with radical behaviour.
  • U-3°, L-3°: here we are in the extreme, of limited use with GONG Tail Wings but potentially useful with other designs. -3° is really hardcore. Full front foot or foil moved fully back.

Note the cumulative amplifying effect produced by the Tail Shaft length choice, which will feel lively in S, normal in M and mellow in L.

Combine a Tail Shaft S with a -3° and it will send you to the moon, whereas an L with +1° is like having a nap in flight.

Where to start?

Start with the Tail Shaft length recommended for your Tail Wing and a 0° Shim Tail.

This combination lets you discover the model's reference behaviour before changing the wheelbase or incidence.

Then change only one parameter at a time. A gradual change makes it possible to understand exactly what each length or angle does and avoids compensating for a poor choice with a second adjustment.

The V3 Atmo system allows you to go very far in customisation. The best setting is not necessarily the most extreme one, but the one that best matches your stance, your board, your discipline and the way you ride.

Compatibility

The Tail Shaft V3 Atmo Team Series is exclusively compatible with GONG V3 standard fuselages.

It is not compatible with the Micro V3 Atmo fuselage, which uses a Micro Tail Shaft and its dedicated Shim Tails.

Upper or Lower Tail Wings are compatible with all diameters, V3 or Micro V3, because the interface in the Shim Tails is always identical whatever fuselage diameter is chosen.

Before assembly, always check compatibility between the Tail Shaft, the Shim Tail and the Tail Wing, as well as their Upper or Lower architecture.

This system is naturally more complex than ready-made one-piece stabs. It is aimed at those who love fine tuning, discussing settings, optimising, understanding, breaking things down, etc. It is obviously not the standard system for everyone. It is the ultimate level of customising feel so you can perform at your very best.

Equipments

Each Tail Shaft comes with all the screws needed for assembly.

3 screws are supplied with each Tail Shaft:

  • 2 M6 x 25 mm T30 screws for the V3 SuperLock connection to the fuselage;
  • 1 screw for connecting the Shim Tail from inside the Tail Shaft, with a length depending on the setup:
    • M6 x 50 mm T30 for sizes S and M
    • M6 x 100 mm T30 for size L

Stainless steel screws suited to foil loads and marine use.

Simple assembly onto the fuselage from underneath the Tail Shaft, with just two screws, like one-piece stabs.

The Tail Shim screws in from inside the Tail Shaft using the standard GONG Torx assembly key. No visible external screw at the rear of the Tail Shaft.

Quick to install, perfectly rigid while riding, and easy to remove after the session.
