Evelin takes the longboard win on the long rights of Santa Catalina!

Evelin Neves wins the ALAS Global Tour event in Santa Catalina, Panama, in ideal conditions for locking into long noserides and laying into turns! Starting with a spot that clearly gave her plenty of room to express her longboarding. A long, powerful right-hander, perfect for seamlessly alternating between noserides and turns, with section after section offering even more scoring potential.

Set waves you couldn't afford to miss

Santa Catalina can be perfect, but the spot leaves little room for error as the tide drops. In the semifinal, Evelin is still surfing on a fairly low tide, with fast waves and the rocks clearly visible beneath her feet.

You have to commit, pick the right ones and, above all, keep a clear head. Evelin finds her waves, delivers some solid manoeuvres and advances to the final.

For the final heat of the day, the tide has come back in, but the wind has picked up too. After a few mistakes early in the heat, Evelin quickly gets back on track and posts a solid 7.17, backed up by a score around 4.50. Enough to take the lead and hold onto it until the end.

Her strategy was clear: wait for the sets. They were few and far between, but much cleaner and long enough to deliver the big scores.

The Deano in its element

Under Evelin's feet: her Deano 9’6, quite simply her favourite board at the moment.

And on a wave like Santa Catalina, its whole programme makes perfect sense. Speed to get to the nose, stability once you're up front, but also enough responsiveness to step back onto the tail and lay into your turns when the section calls for it.

Evelin paired it with her Poster 10’, a setup she likes for the added manoeuvrability without losing the feel of a classic longboard.

Beyond the win, Evelin will also remember eleven days of excellent waves in Panama, capped off by a competition at Santa Catalina that truly lived up to its promise.
