After claiming the 2026 Parawing Downwind World Championship on the Veloce XTR, Bastien Escofet shares his feedback on this new addition to the V3 ATMO range.

High average speed on downwind runs

“I rode the Veloce XTR in Cabarete and on Lake Garda during the SFT events counting towards the Parawing World Championship, using a Hyper Trail stab for the 100% downwind races.

I chose it for those races because of how well it accelerates through the bumps and makes the most of every bit of energy available. It generates speed easily and makes connecting bumps effortless. You can keep building speed without having to push hard.

It may not have the absolute highest top speed, but in this type of racing, average speed is what really matters. With its glide and ability to pick up even the smallest bit of energy, it carries speed incredibly well and barely ever slows down. That’s exactly what you need on this kind of course. Pure flow from bump to bump, keeping a high tempo without burning yourself out.

That’s what makes the Veloce XTR so efficient downwind: it lets you maintain a high average speed while using as little energy as possible.”

Which size for which conditions?

“Although it’s a technical wing, it’s much more accessible than you might expect. The key is choosing the right size for the conditions and your needs. The XTR isn’t really designed for the low end: it needs speed to come alive and show its full potential. Personally, I use the 800 below 15 knots with smaller bumps, then switch to the 600 as soon as the sea starts to build.”
