The length of your mast is a key element in your surf foil or SUP foil experience. Between comfort, performance, and forgiveness, the different sizes available allow you to find the perfect balance to feel at ease on the water.
In the GONG range, a wide selection of sizes covers all uses, from beginner to expert rider.

What size should you choose in surf / SUP foil?
55 cm and 62 cm masts
Reserved for pure learning, for riders completely new to foiling.
A short mast makes the first steps easier: lower center of gravity, increased stability, and less apprehension. However, you will quickly reach its limits once you start flying.
70 cm mast
One of the most popular sizes in surf foil. It is also commonly used in SUP foil.
-
Limited draft and low drag
-
Very direct feel
-
Playful and high-performance
Ideal for small to medium waves and for riders looking for control and responsiveness.
Surf foiler: Mathieu, GONG team rider, riding a Matata EPS, Curve V3 foil, and Carbon V3 70 mast.
77 cm mast
The other major reference today in surf foil and SUP foil.
-
More margin on powerful take-offs (less risk of breaching)
-
Easier to get over whitewater
-
More forgiving in turns
-
Allows greater amplitude in pumping
This is the best choice to make your riding safer and to progress in a wide range of conditions.
SUP foiler: Valentin, GONG staff, riding a NOTW 7’8, HM77 mast, Titanium V3 fuselage, Veloce HDW M front wing, Ultra Trail S stab, Carbon Tail L, 0° shim.
85 cm and 92 cm masts
Designed for committed riding.
-
Perfect for tow-in or powerful waves
-
More height = more safety at high speed
-
Allows long, fast turns without breaching
The 92 cm is clearly aimed at experienced riders in solid conditions.
Surf foiler: Malo, GONG team rider, riding a Lemon FSP Pro, HM85 mast, Fluid 3XS front wing, and Ypra Surf-Freestyle stab.
Different constructions
Choosing the right mast length also goes hand in hand with choosing the right construction: Alu V3, Carbon V3, or Carbon HM V3. Selecting the right construction will help you progress or maximize performance.
Alu V3 masts
Versatile and accessible, aluminum masts are perfect for learning and progressing. They are stiff, impact-resistant, and remain the most affordable option.
Available in: 55, 62, 70, 77, 85, and 92 cm.
Carbon V3 masts
Lighter and more dynamic, they provide greater precision and performance. The increased responsiveness significantly improves surf sensations, especially in turns and pumping.
Available in: 70, 77, 85, and 92 cm.
Carbon HM V3 masts (High Modulus)
These masts combine lightness, responsiveness, and stiffness like no other. You gain clear improvements in both performance and comfort in all key phases of surf / SUP foiling: control, pumping, whitewater crossings, and carving.
They are available in different thicknesses, particularly useful with large front wings (over 120 cm wingspan), ensuring maximum control and stability.
