Longboard EPS technology in detail

EPS technology combines a 28 kg/m³ EPS foam blank, epoxy resin, fiberglass lamination and a reinforced wood stringer. This construction produces a lightweight, responsive and dynamic board while maintaining the structural integrity required over a long length.

The 28 kg/m³ EPS foam blank provides lightness and useful volume. Its low density reduces the board's overall inertia, resulting in a quicker response to rider input, more direct acceleration and greater maneuverability despite its length.

Epoxy resin offers an excellent strength-to-weight ratio. Combined with the fiberglass layers, it creates a strong, responsive and durable shell. This construction maintains plenty of liveliness without adding unnecessary weight to the board.

The reinforced 1 x 5 mm + 2 x 3 mm wood stringer reinforces the board along its entire length. It limits excessive deformation, provides longitudinal stiffness and helps maintain consistent flex throughout a long, thin shape.

The deck features 2 layers of 6 oz fiberglass and 1 layer of 4 oz fiberglass. This lamination reinforces the area subjected to the greatest loads from rider input, movement, compression and changes in position between the front and rear of the board.

The bottom features 1 layer of 6 oz fiberglass, 1 layer of 4 oz fiberglass and a large 4 oz reinforcement patch covering the tail and fin boxes. This construction keeps weight down while reinforcing the areas subjected to the greatest loads.

The tail and fin boxes are subjected to significant stresses: rear-foot pressure, torsion through turns, powerful rider input, loads around the fins and changes of direction. The 4 oz reinforcement patch strengthens this area without compromising the overall responsiveness of the construction.

The 2+1 setup combines a central US box with two Single Tab side fin boxes. The US box allows precise adjustment of the center fin position, while the Single Tab side fins add drive, grip and precision through the tail.

The blank is CNC pre-shaped to ensure consistency in volume distribution, rocker, bottom contours and overall lines. Each board is then checked using traditional templates before being finished by hand to ensure precise rails, smooth transitions and the final accuracy of the shape.

The matte finish provides a clear view of the shape, a clean look and makes scratches less visually noticeable. It is an efficient, lightweight finish perfectly suited to performance surfing.

This technology can easily be restored to like-new condition after damage using suitable epoxy resins. It offers an excellent strength / responsiveness / weight ratio, resulting in a board that is lightweight, lively, strong and technically precise.
