Francesco Cappuzzo and Bastien Escofet once again put their Racer FSP Pro on the top steps of the podium!
The opening FreeFly-Slalom event of the 2026 GWA Wingfoil World Cup, held in El Burrero (Gran Canaria) from July 21 to 22, once again confirmed the GONG's team dominance in the discipline.
The team's two slalom leaders, Bastien Escofet and Francesco Cappuzzo, once again set the pace throughout the competition. Together, they have occupied the top two spots in the world rankings for several seasons: Bastien Escofet is the reigning World Champion, while Francesco Cappuzzo, World Champion in 2024 and 2025, entered this season as the reigning Vice World Champion.

Two days of world-class racing
In winds exceeding 30 knots, the six qualifying eliminations delivered an intense show. Bastien Escofet demonstrated remarkable consistency to finish second in the qualifiers, while Francesco Cappuzzo claimed victory in one elimination and secured third overall, with both riders comfortably advancing to the Super Final.

An all-out Super Final
The top four riders advanced to the Super Final: Bastien Escofet, Francesco Cappuzzo, Sebastiano Zorzi and Tom Pansard.
After Francesco took the opening race and Bastien answered by winning the second, the two GONG riders headed into the deciding race tied on points.
In a high-pressure finale, Francesco Cappuzzo delivered a commanding performance to claim victory in the opening event of the season.
Bastien Escofet completed the GONG one-two with a superb second place, once again confirming his consistency at the highest level.
"It feels so good to be back on top. The conditions were really challenging; anyone could win this event. I'm really happy that I pushed and came out with the win." Francesco Cappuzzo.

A GONG one-two to kick off the season
With Francesco Cappuzzo taking the win and Bastien Escofet finishing second, the GONG team enjoyed the perfect start to the season, once again demonstrating the competitiveness of its 100% production equipment with outstanding speed and complete control.
The championship couldn't have started better ahead of the next stop in Fuerteventura, where Bastien will defend his world title while Francesco continues his quest for another World Championship.
