Maximum compactness or a little more room?

In pumping, a compact board is a major advantage when you're chasing distance. Every percentage of extra efficiency counts when you're aiming to break your personal best. After hundreds of pumping cycles on a long run, the difference between a Kluber 80 and a Kluber 95 becomes significant.

Take the Kluber range as an example. The shortest model at 80 cm long is the highest-performing option. It generates the least inertia and delivers the closest possible feeling of pumping directly on the foil, with virtually no energy loss, while offering a comfortable stance that suits every rider.

The Kluber 87 and 95 deliver extremely similar performance. On short one-minute runs, the difference is barely noticeable. Going up one size does, however, provide several advantages:

  • More length gives you greater tolerance when placing your feet. On the Kluber 80, you need to land in exactly the right spot straight away, which ultimately becomes an advantage because your stance naturally stays consistent.

  • More confidence when jumping onto the board. Having extra room for your feet makes every start less intimidating.

  • The additional surface area under the nose makes it easier to bounce off the water after a less-than-perfect start, especially with foils such as the Trail, whose lift allows you to climb high on the mast after a touchdown.  

  • More width under the back foot lets you offset your stance when carving tighter turns with very high aspect wings.

In short, for maximum pumping performance, choose the smallest size, regardless of your size or weight.

If you want a little more forgiveness when placing your feet, go for the larger size.

A mid-size option like the Kluber 87 offers an excellent compromise between these two approaches, delivering top-level performance while feeling less intimidating than the Kluber 80.
