Overview

Surfing the best waves of your life means being in the right place at the right time. It also means being totally in sync with your board, in the perfect rhythm to make the most of those conditions.

That is exactly what the Lethal is built for in "perfect" waves. Its round tail brings total freedom to its radical yet harmonious shape.

You can vary your carving turn radius at will, and change lines effortlessly. It is perfect for turning under the lip and adjusting your line in endless Indo tubes, for example.

Not to be confused with a pinched round tail, like a round pin, the Lethal keeps huge versatility with a fairly centred wide point that brings a lot of drive and mobility to this modern shape. The opposite of a step-up or a mini gun. The Lethal is quite simply the most manoeuvrable board in the range.

A round tail that is 100% built for carving, while still able to pivot on the spot. Thin rails, especially through the tail, to hold tight carves and grip the face. A centred wide point for maximum versatility. Its efficient shape delivers an ultra-balanced feel despite a very playful tail. You can commit with total confidence, with a complete sense of speed and freedom.

It is a relatively easy board to surf because it is so instinctive. You can throw yourself into it and surf without overthinking. The Lethal is the shortboard dedicated to hollow waves, both ultra-fluid and radical when it is time to score.

Its ability to draw tight carves makes it an essential in any good surfer's quiver.

OUTLINE

A centred wide point to tighten up your carves and boost manoeuvrability. An ultra playful tail that still gives you plenty of freedom in your lines in powerful waves. And a fine nose that completely disappears under your feet.

An outline that, despite its step-up look, will deliver your best turns ever in average waves and push your limits in hollow waves.

ROCKER

A pronounced yet conventional rocker for a performance shortboard. Enough nose rocker to avoid the slightest mistake at the end of a top turn. The rocker stays constant right through the tail exit for the best possible manoeuvrability and powerful carves. A rocker that is both constant and very well balanced between the nose and the tail.

The Lethal combines the ability to generate speed with the ability to turn easily.

BOTTOM SHAPE

You get the modern combination found on performance boards to score in quality conditions, with the classic CTDC (concave to double concave). The concave is very pronounced up front and runs through to the last quarter of the tail, where it transitions into a double concave between the fins. The concaves are there to direct the water flow. This combination of concaves helps keep the board on line, channels the water flow to create a venturi effect, the board accelerates, and delivers better hold.

The single concave creates lift, which explains the Lethal’s excellent performance in waves that lack power. Its role is also to increase speed, allowing the board to accelerate instantly: from the drop, you’re straight into the rhythm.

The double concave allows clean water release through the tail between the three fins.

TAIL

The rounded tail delivers maximum manoeuvrability. The round tail sits between the highly planing squash tail and the very sharp pin tail. It is therefore a very interesting choice for laying down turns in waves with plenty of push. Perfectly suited to tight manoeuvres and very fast pivot turns, it still remains ultra fluid.

RAILS

The rails are hard in the tail with a pronounced edge, so you never run short of control. There is grip to spare whatever the situation, even in the most critical sections of a wave. The rails are shaped so you can bury them easily at high speed to stay in control. You can load up energy easily to go straight and hit the lip coming out of a bottom turn. You get that characteristic bite for maximum aggressiveness and precision.

Single Tab connection: simple, direct and solid

The Single Tab system features a single, extended base on each fin. This design creates a solid connection with the fin box, making installation simple, fin changes quick, and power transfer exceptionally direct.

On the water, the benefits are immediate. The board responds instantly, the fins work without unwanted play, and every input translates into drive, grip and control. This is especially valuable on high performance boards, where precise feedback is essential at high speeds and through committed turns.

The Single Tab system also makes it easy to fine tune your setup for different conditions. Changing fin size, template or flex lets you refine the board's feel in just a few moments. It provides a clean, durable and efficient connection, allowing you to unlock the full potential of the shape.

What for?

A good board is first and foremost one that makes your surfing easier, one that gives you confidence. The Lethal is a benchmark board for the best days, and for heading off on a trip.

To feel just as comfortable in 3-foot waves at your local beach break as on a reef on the other side of the world in 8-foot waves and beyond, and everything in between.

The common thread in these conditions is the Lethal’s ability to deliver the same intensity in waves that are nevertheless very different. To be able to get the very best out of those conditions, not miss out, so every session feels epic.

What board size?

The Lethal comes in a very wide range of sizes, from compact shortboards to longer boards for serious waves. This depth of range makes it possible to find the ideal size and volume for your level, build, paddling and the type of waves you surf.

If you’re advanced or expert and looking for a very reactive Lethal, choose a size close to your usual performance shortboard dimensions. You’ll keep a lively, precise board, capable of drawing tight carves and making the most of its highly mobile round tail.

If you’re a solid intermediate, if you want more paddling comfort, or if you surf spots with lots of moving water, choose a size with a bit more length and volume. The Lethal will still perform, but you’ll gain in positioning, take-off and margin at take-off.

Your choice also depends on the waves you’re targeting. For clean, fast and not overly big waves, a more refined size will give you more precision and mobility. For more powerful, longer or more physically demanding waves, a bigger size will bring more paddling power, more entry speed and more comfort in your lines.

If you’re between two sizes, choose the smaller one to maximise mobility, rail to rail and tight carves. Choose the bigger one for more paddling power, comfort and margin in more powerful or faster waves. With the Lethal, the wide size range really lets you find the right combination of surfing level, volume and wave size.

What are the ideal waves?

Size: from waist-high to a solid overhead and beyond.
Power: it performs at its best in all waves except weak knee-high ones.
Conditions: it works everywhere but prefers glassy waves, like all of us.

What construction?

On some shapes, we offer different constructions to match the programme, the conditions, and sometimes simply individual preferences.

In the case of a PU board, it will behave differently from an EPS board with the same shape and the same weight. That’s because weight distribution inside the board creates a major difference in feel. For two blanks with the same shape, one in PU and the other in EPS, the EPS blank will be lighter, as EPS foam is less dense.

With a PU board, the blank provides the strength and concentrates the weight in its core. The board therefore has very "central" inertia. This gives a very smooth board that forgives mistakes, but is less dynamic. The PU blank will be heavier than the EPS blank.

With an epoxy board, the blank is very light and the strength comes from the skins. So the inertia is "peripheral", meaning that because the board’s weight sits around the outside of the board, it becomes more mobile, more lively and more dynamic.

The best comparison to explain these differences would be to say that PU inertia naturally gives a single fin feel, with very centred, muted and smooth pressure, whereas EPS gives a thruster or even quad feel, with very external pressure, immediate rail to rail and maximum liveliness.

EPS is generally preferred for boards that need dynamism, so most often in small to medium conditions, broadly speaking in waves where you need to generate speed. EPS is therefore the better choice for shapes where responsiveness is the priority, as it’s easier to turn quickly, perfect for waves that require fast combinations. For very good surfers, it allows them to push the dynamism of their surfing even further. For progressing surfers, EPS adds that little extra boost in dynamism because the board can pick up speed much more easily, an important point when you know that in surfing, speed is the key to everything. PU is generally preferred for performance shortboards, for boards where you simply need to control your speed.

Everyone’s feelings are different: surfers used to PU will generally say that "EPS bounces and feels like a stiff board". Whereas surfers used to EPS will say that "PU feels soft, lacks speed build-up, and the board struggles to accelerate". These feelings often come from habits, sometimes from generalisations, and often from preconceptions, so don’t hesitate to move beyond received ideas when making your choice.

Which fin set-up?

The Lethal is designed as a thruster Single Tab. This set-up is the most consistent with its programme: a fast, fluid and ultra-manoeuvrable board, made to hold its line in waves with push while keeping the ability to draw tight carves.

On the Lethal, the fins need to work with the round tail without locking it up. You need to find the right balance between pivot, grip, drive and control. A set that’s too loose will make the board more playful but less solid in fast waves. A set with too much grip will bring plenty of hold but may reduce the tail’s natural freedom.

The Round set is the most balanced choice. It blends speed, control, pivot and drive evenly. It’s the fin to choose if you want a healthy, accessible and versatile feel on the Lethal, with handling that’s easy to read in most good conditions.

The Leap set is even more neutral and fluid. It doesn’t push the board towards an extreme feel and makes transitions easier. It’s an excellent option if you want to keep the Lethal smooth, natural and easy to place, especially if you’re discovering the shape or looking for a very straightforward performance set.

The Power set is more upright, with lots of pivot and immediate response under the back foot. It’s ideal for emphasising the Lethal’s highly manoeuvrable side, tightening up carves, getting back under the lip quickly and delivering a more vertical, explosive surf style.

The Project set is deeper, with lots of grip. It’s the set to favour if you surf the Lethal in hollower, faster or more powerful waves and want to secure your bottom turns, push hard through carves and keep solid hold at high speed.

The Wall set has plenty of rake, with lots of drive and excellent line hold. It will suit surfers who want to lengthen their carves, hold fast lines and get the most out of the Lethal in waves with plenty of wall. It’s the choice for fuller, more committed lines.

The Liner set is projection-oriented, with more dynamic flex and a real sense of speed build-up out of turns. It will be interesting if you want to give the Lethal more fluidity, speed and spring, especially in clean waves that let you link carves with rhythm.

To sum it up simply: Round for balance, Leap for ease, Power for pivot, Project for grip, Wall for drive, Liner for projection. The right set is the one that respects the Lethal’s character: a free, precise board made for powerful surfing in quality waves.

Which shape should you choose?

Lethal or Chemical?

These are two boards that complement each other perfectly. The Chemical is an ultra high-performance shortboard in small to medium conditions. The Lethal comes alive in waves with push. You’ll draw much tighter turns on the Lethal and accelerate harder on the Chemical.

Lethal or Evolt?

The Evolt is closer to the Chemical: it’s its competition version with even more forward projection. The Lethal keeps the edge in hollow conditions. The Evolt is perfect for linking turns/manoeuvres in weak waves.

Lethal or Atomic?

They share very similar playgrounds: waves with push.

The Atomic has more character, with a tail that propels it +++ and gives it drive. It’s the board for accelerating when you’re already doing Mach 12. Ideal for heavy barrels and laying down big carves on the face.

The Lethal’s reduced tail area makes it a bit more versatile and more playful. You feel both very free in hollow waves to tighten up your turns, and even more comfortable set deep in long tubes that require you to manage both your line and your height on the face.

Who is the Lethal for?

The Lethal is aimed at solid intermediate, advanced and expert surfers looking for a high-performance shortboard for quality waves. It already requires solid foot pressure and efficient paddling, but it remains more accessible than an extreme board thanks to its fluid, predictable and highly manoeuvrable feel.

What kind of waves does the Lethal perform best in?

It performs at its best in clean, fast, hollow or powerful waves, from waist-high to an easy double overhead. It handles a wide range of conditions, but its real playground remains quality waves with push, with face, speed and sections to work with.

Is the Lethal suited to small, mushy waves?

That’s not its main purpose. The Lethal can handle pretty much anything, but it’s not designed for soft knee-high waves where you have to generate all the speed yourself. For those kinds of conditions, a Chemical, an Evolt, an Alu or a Fork will make more sense depending on the style you’re after.

Why is the round tail so important on the Lethal?
