More glide and impressive manoeuvrability for wing foiling or lowkite.

Trying different setups is one of the great pleasures of foiling. Start with the basic recommendations, and from there, you can explore in any direction. In the quiver of Patrice Guénolé, GONG’s boss and shaper, the Veloce DW V3 Atmo tail wing in the Lower architecture has found a role well beyond its intended use. Its glide first caught his attention, but its manoeuvrability won him over during his wave riding and freestyle sessions in wing foiling and lowkite.

The trick to adapting this tail wing for this use: choose two sizes above your reference size. Here’s why 👇

Efficient in downwind, incredibly playful in freeride.

The Veloce DW tail wing is designed for downwind foiling, where there is no pull from a wing or kite pressing the front of the board down. It therefore prioritises glide and manoeuvrability, with little tendency to lift the nose.

In wing foiling or lowkite, the pull from the wing or kite changes this balance. We therefore recommend choosing one to two sizes above your reference downwind size to compensate for the forward pressure and the stabilizer’s limited tendency to lift the nose.

Your choice of tail wing size therefore depends on how you ride: a size suited to pure downwind foiling will not necessarily be the best choice when riding with a wing or kite. Keep this difference in mind to maintain a balanced foil and make the most of the Veloce DW’s glide.
