Similar surface areas, but different riding sensations explored in this comparison!

Wing foiler: Malo Guénolé, GONG team rider, riding a Curzader Point Hollow Carbon, Droid Light, HM85 mast, Fluid V3 Atmo front wing and Ypra Surf-Freestyl V3 Atmo stabiliser.

Two wings, two different characters

“Fluid V3 Atmo Team Series XS (710 cm2) versus Ypra Surf Carve V3 Atmo Pro Team Series M (720 cm2).

Two wings, two different characters…

Despite fairly similar intended uses on paper, each front wing has its own identity.

What they have in common: take-off is easy and predictable, and low-end performance is excellent. Both are very comfortable to ride.

A few differences: the Carve feels more planted, more locked in. The Fluid is much freer in roll, making it more playful in the waves. The Fluid seems to have more glide to me.”

So which one should you choose?

“I set out to test both and keep just one… impossible.

So why keep both? And when should you use each one?

At the moment, whenever it’s blowing over 18 knots, I ride with a Lowkite.

For Lowkite freeride, I really love the Ypra Surf Carve paired with the Ypra Slalom XXS stabiliser. It gives me a really planted feel, lets me accelerate hard, jump and manoeuvre easily.

For wing foiling, especially in small waves, I love the Fluid’s completely unleashed feel, its glide and the ability to snap turns, carve really tight and accelerate out of them. With the wing there to lean on, I can really play with the foil.

With a Lowkite, just as in freefly, I prefer a slightly more planted feel through my turns (fewer balance corrections). So it’s up to you, it all depends on what you’re looking for.”

Thanks to Adrien for this comparison!
