Prepreg Technology and Fiber Volume Control
All fibers used in V3 Atmo foils are processed as prepreg, meaning they are pre-impregnated with resin before layup. We do not use dry fabrics wetted inside the mold, as that process cannot achieve the level of precision we require for high-performance foils.
Prepreg technology allows precise control of the fiber-to-resin ratio, directly determining weight, laminate density, stiffness, shear strength, torsional rigidity, final thickness, mechanical consistency, and curing quality.
In any composite structure, performance depends primarily on the fiber volume fraction, the actual proportion of structural fibers relative to the resin. The fibers carry the loads, while the resin binds them together, transfers stresses between fibers, and stabilizes the structure without adding unnecessary weight.
Too much resin makes the stabilizer heavier and reduces its mechanical efficiency. Too little resin creates dry areas, weak bonding, and structural defects. The objective is therefore not to "add resin for strength," but to apply precisely the right amount of resin around fibers that are correctly oriented.
GONG pushes this level of control even further by manufacturing our own prepregs within our production facility. We select the dry fibers, impregnate them with the resin best suited to the intended mechanical program, precisely control the resin content, integrate the purple Texalium filament directly into the 3K carbon weave, store the prepregs under refrigerated conditions, then CNC-cut and lay them up according to our proprietary laminate schedules.
This capability is exceptionally rare within the foil industry because it requires genuine composite manufacturing infrastructure, controlled storage procedures, strict processing windows, and production volumes large enough to justify the investment. Rather than relying on off-the-shelf materials, we engineer the material itself according to each stabilizer, its intended application, the expected loads, and the desired riding feel.
Engineered Layup Schedules
The fibers are never laid up by intuition, habit, or simple experience. Every layup schedule is engineered using proprietary software based on the actual mechanical loads encountered in use: bending, torsion, compression, loads around the connection, pumping forces, carving loads, landings, impacts, and repeated fatigue cycles.
Fiber orientations and distributions are optimized for each area of the stabilizer. Unidirectional (UD) fibers carry the primary load paths, 0/90° plies stabilize the structure, ±45° and triaxial reinforcements control torsion, while localized reinforcements strengthen the connection interface and other highly stressed areas.
This engineering approach places material only where it contributes to performance. Areas responsible for transmitting rider input are stiffened, critical sections are reinforced, controlled compliance is maintained where it improves comfort and forgiveness, and unnecessary weight is eliminated.
Each ply is CNC-cut to guarantee perfect geometry, fiber orientation, and positioning. This manufacturing precision minimizes variability, unwanted thickness build-up, air entrapment, dry spots, excess resin, and performance differences between individual stabilizers.
Steel Molds and Absolute Repeatability
V3 Atmo Pro Team Series stabilizers are produced in ultra-high-precision steel molds. This is an uncommon industrial choice in the foil industry because steel molds are significantly more expensive than aluminum tooling. The material itself costs more, machining takes considerably longer, and manufacturing requires a much higher level of expertise.
The benefit is decisive: steel maintains its dimensional accuracy over time. Whereas aluminum molds gradually wear, lose sharpness, deform, or drift outside their original tolerances, steel molds consistently produce identical parts from the very first unit to the last.
For GONG, this repeatability is essential. Every stabilizer must feature the same profile, trailing edge, connection geometry, and on-water behavior regardless of when it was manufactured.
Our molds are machined in-house on 5-axis CNC equipment, ensuring complete control over quality while protecting the confidentiality of our designs. This level of precision is critical to accurately reproduce hydrodynamic profiles, thickness distributions, transitions, connection geometries, and trailing edges.
On a foil, even a few tenths of a millimeter can influence glide, stall behavior, noise, ventilation, and stability. Tooling precision is therefore a genuine performance factor, not merely an aesthetic consideration.
Heated Presses and Controlled Cure Cycles
The laminates are molded under very high pressure in heated presses. Temperature, pressure, cure duration, and cooling cycles are all precisely calibrated to maximize the composite's mechanical properties.

Our new production facility allows us to manufacture our own prepregs. We therefore developed a dedicated 3K carbon prepreg in which a purple Texalium filament is woven directly into the carbon fabric itself. The color is not applied as paint, it is an integral part of the composite material.
The result is unique: a vivid metallic purple-pink finish with iridescent reflections that change depending on the viewing angle and lighting conditions. Under direct sunlight, low-angle light, or different orientations, the stabilizer reveals constantly changing depth, reflections, and color intensity.
This finish is considerably more demanding than a painted surface because it hides nothing. The layup quality, fiber orientation, weave consistency, Texalium integration, surface finish, and final clear coat must all be executed to an exceptionally high standard.
Following molding, every component undergoes an extremely precise finishing process in dedicated facilities specifically designed to transform raw composite parts into flawless finished products.
Trailing edges and surface finishes are refined to perfection and carefully inspected to meet the V3 Atmo standard. This stage is critical: a clean, thin, perfectly uniform trailing edge reduces parasitic drag, noise, vibration, and efficiency losses.
