Glide and maneuverability despite the wingspan
“Feedback on the Veloce XXL / L and Veloce HDW M (in DW Lowkite). I’ve now been stacking up the miles in downwind for over a year (+1000 km), mainly on freshwater but also in the ocean with windswell and sometimes more powerful groundswell. Thought I’d share my feedback, maybe it can help some people 🙌
Freshwater
For a heavier rider (90 kg), the Veloce range is just perfect for our Swiss lakes.
The glide is, in my opinion, perfectly suited to the slower bumps you get on lakes. The XXL → L spacing works really well for my weight.
Basically, I ride:

Veloce L from 15 knots (with gusts to 20)

Veloce XXL below that
The XXL wingspan has never bothered me. Quite the opposite actually, being able to breach the tips with zero consequences is pretty incredible! In fact, when I’m on the XXL, I often end up playing around trying to breach the tips because it’s so addictive!
Anyway, huge crush on this range for our Swiss conditions 🤩”
The Veloce Downwind matching swell speed
“At sea.
I used the Veloce L in the ocean for a long time and it already works really well. But depending on the conditions, especially with faster swell, I sometimes felt like I had to keep pumping constantly to avoid getting overtaken by the waves.
So I picked up the Veloce HDW M. I haven’t used it that much in the ocean yet, but the feeling clicked instantly. The speed is just incredible!!
For my size, you do need to keep the speed up otherwise the foil stalls pretty quickly. But once it’s flying, it’s seriously fast. My best pace so far is 2:13 min/km, and I think I can still improve that with a thinner stab and a bigger swell.

With the current range, my choice goes like this:
