Programme

The adjustable carbon Tail Wing that supports your full progression in pump foiling, from your first dock starts to long-distance runs, with plenty of support, control and ease, even at very low speed.

Overview

The Trail V3 Atmo Team Series Tail Wing has been developed to make pump foiling easier, less physical and more efficient at every stage of progression.

It is primarily designed to support your first dock starts, and even beach starts, flat starts and your first long-distance runs, with a reassuring foil setup that feels very present under your feet and is easy to keep in rhythm. Its goal is not just to help you get going: it lets you build clean, consistent technique with solid support and superb glide.

Its 8.0 aspect ratio offers an excellent balance between lift at very low speed, efficiency and control. The Tail Wing carries enough speed through each pump to help you progress in distance, without feeling vague or unstable. It is a world away from overly thin or overly demanding tail wings that require a cadence and technique that are simply out of reach at the start of your progression.

Its generous centre chord concentrates support under your feet. The rider finds their balance more easily, quickly understands the pumping rhythm and maintains more consistent flight when foot pressure or cadence is not yet perfect.

Its new Trail Team Series profile is powerful, forgiving and particularly enjoyable at low speed. It smooths out small stance errors, evens out height variations and helps the foil naturally settle back into rhythm after a drop in cadence or a mistake.

Its very slight negative dihedral maximises efficiency while keeping reactions predictable and progressive. The centred, forgiving tips make line corrections easier and build confidence through long sequences.

Built in monolithic T400 carbon, CNC machined, it transmits foot pressure directly and maintains consistent stiffness through the thousands of pumps in a pump foiling session.

Its Upper architecture allows it to be used with a Carbon Tail and its matching shim, or with a Tail Shaft Upper and a Shim Tail Upper. The reference setup with a Tail Shaft Medium and Shim Tail 0° offers the best balance of stability, cadence, efficiency and ease of use.

Paired with a Trail Team Series Front Wing in the same size, it creates a perfectly coherent foil setup to progress naturally, extend your flights and build ever more efficient pumping.

A Platform that evolves with you

At GONG, a new generation of products doesn't make your existing equipment obsolete. Our priority is to improve performance while protecting your investment.

All V3 Atmo Tail Wings share a standard mounting interface that defines their reference angle of incidence. This allows them to be installed on both the new V3 Atmo Tail Shims and the previous compatible V3 shims, without requiring you to replace your entire rear foil assembly.

This continuity also means that the same Tail Wing can be used with either a V3 or Micro V3 Atmo fuselage. Simply select the Tail Shaft and Tail Shim designed for your fuselage diameter. You can upgrade your platform progressively, without rebuilding your entire quiver every time a new innovation is introduced.

This compatibility is at the heart of our development philosophy. Every new generation delivers greater performance, finer tuning possibilities, and increased precision, while remaining designed to preserve as much of your existing equipment as possible.

You're investing in a durable platform that evolves alongside your riding, not in a succession of incompatible systems that must be replaced entirely with every new product generation.

A fully customizable Foil

The Tail Wing is only one part of your foil's overall behavior. With the V3 Atmo system, you can also choose your Tail Shaft length and Tail Shim angle of incidence to achieve a setup perfectly matched to your skill level, riding style, and discipline.

The Tail Shaft primarily influences the foil's dynamic behavior. A Short model makes the foil more responsive and reduces turning radius. The Medium version delivers the reference balance. The Long version provides greater longitudinal stability, smooths pitch movements, and makes long, flowing lines easier to maintain.

The Tail Shim then allows you to fine-tune the foil's longitudinal balance. It adjusts front-foot pressure, pitch attitude, takeoff ease, pumping cadence, and the foil's overall character, without changing the intrinsic characteristics of your Tail Wing.

The recommended setup for each Tail Wing is always the best place to start. It delivers exactly the behavior intended by the designer. From this baseline, you can progressively tune your foil to your own preferences by changing only one parameter at a time.

This modular system naturally evolves with your progression. The same Tail Wing can continue to meet your needs for many seasons simply by combining different Tail Shaft lengths and Tail Shim angles.

You're not simply choosing a Tail Wing, you're choosing a tuning platform that allows your foil to evolve with your riding, delivering a setup tailored with precision to the way you ride.

Buying guide

Who is it for?

The Tail Wing Trail V3 Atmo Team Series is aimed at riders who want to build, improve and stabilise their pumping technique with a foil that is very easy to read, very supportive at low speed and easy to keep in rhythm.

It suits riders discovering dockstart, but its programme is not limited to first attempts. It supports the whole progression towards more consistency, more endurance and more distance.

It also speaks to riders who already know how to pump but are not looking for an extreme Tail Wing. Some prefer a reassuring foil, a mellow cadence and steady flight rather than an ultra-fast setup that demands constant precision.

It is ideal for those who want to repeat lots of attempts without immediately going into the red. You start, you fly, you rest and you go again. Progress comes from the quality and repetition of the movement, not only from intensity.

Why?

The Tail Wing Trail is developed for pure pumping, dockstart, beach start, flat start and the first longer distances on flat water.

In dockstart, it brings the support needed to stabilise the board right from take-off, run, jump, stand the body up and set the cadence without immediately being overwhelmed by a foil that is too unstable. It lets you work on rhythm, posture, amplitude, trajectory, height control and energy efficiency. It is made to turn attempts into steady flights, then steady flights into distance.

In beach start, it helps keep support through the first few seconds, when speed and height are still low. The discipline remains very demanding, but its progressive behaviour gives you real margin.

In flat start, it supports the launch phase with plenty of low-speed support. This programme requires a high technical level and a suitable board, but the Trail forms a coherent package with the Front Wing Trail Team Series.

To avoid if...

The Tail Wing Trail is not designed for maximum speed, absolute records or extreme efficiency.

If your main goal is slalom pumping, sharp acceleration, buoys and carves on the flat, a Tail Wing Hyper Trail will be more suitable.

If you want to maximise long distances with an already mastered cadence, the Supra Trail will offer more glide and less drag, with more demanding handling.

If you are chasing absolute records and maximum efficiency, the Ultra Trail is the most extreme solution, but it requires a much higher level of control.

The Trail can work with other Front Wings, but its main purpose remains progression in pumping. For downwind, freefly, wing foiling or lowkite, choose a Tail Wing designed for those programmes.

What size?

The choice of size mainly depends on the Front Wing used, rider weight, level, rider power and the balance you are looking for.

The reference setup is to pair a Tail Wing Trail in the same size as the Front Wing Trail Team Series. This match preserves the calculated balance between support, stability, cadence and efficiency.

A larger Tail Wing brings more low-speed support, more longitudinal stability and more presence under your feet. It makes control easier, but also increases drag and may require more front foot pressure.

A smaller Tail Wing reduces drag, frees up speed and makes the foil more lively. On the other hand, it requires better height control, more precise cadence and more active control.

The smallest Tail Wing is not automatically the highest performing. In pumping, height control is fundamental. A foil that is too difficult to keep flying very high can create far more drag with the mast immersed than the Tail Wing surface reduction can save.

The best choice is therefore the one that lets you fly high, consistently and without constant corrections.

What setup?

The Tail Wing Trail is an Upper Tail Wing.

It can be mounted on a Carbon Tail with the matching shim, or on an Upper Tail Shaft paired with an Upper Shim Tail.

It cannot be mounted on a Lower Tail Shaft or on a Lower Shim Tail. Upper and Lower architectures use different geometries and seating surfaces.

The Tail Shaft and Shim Tail setup offers the most complete level of customisation. The Shim Tail precisely defines the Tail Wing incidence and blends the volumes into a continuous hydrodynamic line.

The reference setup uses a Medium Tail Shaft and an Upper Shim Tail 0°. It offers the best balance of stability, ease, cadence and efficiency for discovering the Tail Wing and understanding its behaviour.

What does Shim Tail 0° mean?

The Shim Tail 0° keeps the reference incidence calculated for the Tail Wing Trail.

It does not mean that the Tail Wing is horizontal relative to the fuselage. The native incidence required for the model to work is directly built into its carbon mount.

The Shim Tail number only indicates the angle added or removed relative to this reference.

So 0° is always the best starting point. It lets you discover the Tail Wing in the balance intended by the designer before changing front foot pressure or the character of the foil.

Which angle should you choose?

Start with an Upper Shim Tail 0°. This is the reference setting for the Tail Wing Trail.

A negative angle number progressively increases the Tail Wing's nose-up effect. It brings more front foot pressure, makes take-off easier and gives a more eager foil, but it also increases the effort required from the front leg.

-0.5° is the first logical step when you want a little more front foot pressure or more presence with each pump.

-1° produces a more noticeable difference and should be chosen with a clear objective. It is rarely effective in pure pumping. The -2° and -3° angles are very radical and rarely necessary with a properly sized Tail Wing Trail.

+1° reduces front foot pressure and lets the foil glide more, but it requires more back foot pressure and can delay take-off. This setting generally moves away from the Trail's natural progression programme.

The Tail Shaft length and Shim Tail angle should always be considered together. Only change one parameter at a time.

What Tail Shaft length?

The Medium Tail Shaft is the reference setup for the Tail Wing Trail. It offers the best compromise between longitudinal stability, cadence, control and efficiency.

The Short Tail Shaft reduces the foil's wheelbase. The foil becomes more lively, reacts faster to pitch changes and tightens carve radius. This setup can suit riders who want more dynamic pumping and already have good precision.

The Long Tail Shaft increases the Tail Wing's lever arm. The foil becomes smoother, more progressive and more guided. The lines get longer and the cadence can become more consistent over time.

A longer length does not automatically bring more glide. It mainly brings more stability and progression. The right choice depends on your cadence, your stance and the way you control the foil.

Which Front Wing?

The Tail Wing Trail is developed as the natural partner to the Front Wing Trail V3 Atmo Team Series.

The reference combo uses a Front Wing and a Tail Wing in the same size. This pairing delivers the balance intended for progression: plenty of low-speed support, good cadence stability, predictable behaviour and enough efficiency to extend flights.

It can also be used with a Front Wing Trail Perf Series in the corresponding size to keep the same programme in a different construction.

The Tail Wing Trail can work with other Front Wings, but its powerful profile and low-speed presence will always steer the foil towards ease, stability and progression.

With a faster or thinner Front Wing, it can make the overall behaviour more reassuring, but it will also increase drag and may limit top speed.

How do you progress with the settings?

Start with the recommended combo: Front Wing Trail and Tail Wing Trail in the same size, Medium Tail Shaft and Shim Tail 0°.

Use this setup for enough sessions to understand its balance, your natural cadence and the foil position in the boxes.

Then only change one element at a time. Change the Tail Shaft length, the Shim Tail incidence, the Tail Wing size or the foil position, but never all these parameters at once.

First look to improve your technique before systematically reducing Tail Wing size. Clean cadence, good height control and steady flight produce far more distance than a poorly controlled extreme setup.

A setting can also be used to evolve your control. A slightly livelier setup can develop precision. A longer setup can teach you to smooth out your cadence. The goal is not always to immediately get back your usual comfort, but to progress by understanding the effect of each parameter.

Compatibility

The Tail Wing Trail is exclusively Upper.

It works with:

  • a compatible Carbon Tail and its matching Upper shim;
  • a V3 Upper Tail Shaft and a V3 Upper Shim Tail;
  • a Micro V3 Atmo Upper Tail Shaft and a Micro V3 Atmo Upper Shim Tail.

V3 and Micro V3 Atmo Tail Shafts and Shim Tails are not interchangeable on the fuselage side.

The Tail Wing itself remains compatible with both diameters, however, because the interface that receives it is shared. You simply need to use the Tail Shaft and Shim Tail matched to the fuselage diameter.

It does not mount on a Lower Shim Tail or on a Lower Tail Shaft.
