Introduction

The Matata kiteboard is inspired by the Simmons concept: highly planing, compact, and maneuverable boards.

With its rear outline featuring almost parallel rails and its giant square tail, it’s the queen of light wind: the planing start is record-breaking. And let’s talk about its upwind ability!!! Just mind-blowing. You can truly feel the efficiency of the rail that grips and locks the board in. No need to twist and turn to scratch 5° to windward: it points upwind!

Yet, navigation is easy and smooth, even in choppy conditions, with its soft-touch belly nose that pushes water away instead of smacking into it.

Surfing is its DNA. Make no mistake. Its natural turning abilities are boosted by its small size, providing better responsiveness. This reduced length gives more control on the slope and an even stronger skate feeling. The epitome of a concept board that is genetically soft and fast, and excelling in small waves. Its glide in surfing and relaunches, allows you to let your kite drift while you focus on surfing. It’s delightful because you truly surf, even in mediocre conditions.

It’s the perfect board for early planing, cruising, and upwind sailing in a freeride program. But the Matata is above all a fantastic surfboard that turns average days into memorable sessions.

This shape is a legend in light wind kitesurfing.

OUTLINE

The outline of the Matata is very compact and wide, with almost parallel rails and a very generous square tail. It’s the queen of light wind and upwind riding.

Nose

A belly (convex) under the nose for smooth passage through chop.

TAIL

The Matata kiteboard is GONG’s version of the Simmons concept, the first planing boards developed before the mid-20th century. To summarize a Simmons concept, we have:

An ultra-wide tail with deep concave for lift and staying highly maneuverable even at low speeds.

ROCKER

A surf-oriented rocker at the nose that flattens out almost to the rear, giving the board a true surfer character.

HULL

This compact shape focuses on water flow under the board: water diffusion under the nose and concentration then ejection of water under the tail. This combination of phenomena provides incredible performance.

And don’t imagine that it’s just an oversized board: this board is super maneuverable. Firstly because it’s short, but mainly because the accelerated flow of water between the fins gives a super smooth pivot from one twin fin to the other.

Diamond Traction Pad

With its new modular design, the Diamond Traction Pad evolves to deliver even greater versatility, comfort, and precision. Still featuring exceptional grip and a 5 mm thickness, it ensures maximum traction and secure footing for total control in all conditions.

The connection to the board remains direct and precise, promoting responsive handling while maintaining enough cushioning to absorb impacts and preserve comfort during long sessions.

The Diamond Traction Pad now consists of two main elements: a front pad and a tail pad, available in multiple sizes and shapes depending on the board. This base configuration optimizes weight while retaining essential comfort and control.

The central “boomerang” section, made of two pieces, can be added as an option to maximize grip surface, reinforce support, and achieve full foot hold. This allows you to fine-tune your setup based on your riding style and priorities: lightweight feel or maximum grip.

FSP 2X Technology = Strength, Lightness, and Durability

The FSP 2X kitesurf boards range features a high-end construction with a full 3 mm thick PVC sandwich (80 kg/m³), combined with biaxial fiberglass reinforcements. This process ensures an exceptional balance between stiffness, durability, and lightness. Completely waterproof, the shell effectively protects the EPS foam core, preventing any water-related damage, even in the event of impact.

Thanks to the FSP 2X technology, you not only benefit from an unmatched strength-to-weight ratio at an affordable price but also from simplified repairability. In case of impact, repairs can rely on a solid base and blend perfectly with the surrounding material. The PVC foam prevents infiltration, thus ensuring the longevity of your board.

Single Tab Fin Boxes = Enhanced Performance

Our kitesurf boards now come equipped with Single Tab fin boxes, a proven standard known for its reliability and performance. This upgrade delivers better power transfer, increased stiffness between the fin and the board, and excellent long-term durability, even under heavy use.

More robust and highly valued for their precision on the water, Single Tab fin boxes also ensure quick and secure installation. This evolution reflects our ongoing commitment to improving durability, board feel, and overall product quality.

La technologie FSP 2X est facilement réparable à neuf en cas de pet. La mousse PVC du sandwich est étanche et évite les entrées d’eau sur les chocs du quotidien. Le pain en EPS ne se détériore pas car il est vraiment protégé de l’eau. Et les réparations disposent d’un support beaucoup plus conséquent pour s’appuyer et fusionner parfaitement avec la matière environnante.

For whom?

From beginner to pro who likes to ride in small conditions, this board is fabulous.
Beginners will appreciate its natural glide and ease of handling in choppy waters. The board provides excellent buoyancy, allowing for safe and enjoyable paddling in manageable conditions.
The pro will love its skate feel and surfer DNA. In small waves, the Matata Kite is amazing.

For what ?

Freeride galore and/or surfing in small/medium conditions; that's the program of Matata Kite.

What size?

Ideal conditions?

Ideal wave size: from almost nothing to shoulder size.

Power: it performs best in soft to normal waves.

Appearance: it goes everywhere, even in choppy water and wind.

What is the ideal kite?

The Matata Kite will work wonderfully with a Unik for lightness and smoothness in surfing.

Paired with a large Strutless board, the Matata will be formidable in light wind. No one will be planing faster than you!

And in stronger winds, what could be better than a top 3-strut kite like the Freewave to really let loose!

Which quiver buddies?

You can supplement the low-end range with our kite foil boards when the wind is really weak.

When the wind is stronger, a Fatal or an Alu will allow you to sail more radically.

What settings?

The Matata Kite comes set up as a quad with Single Tab fin boxes. You are free to choose your own fin set. All Single Tab fin models are available on our website.

Quad for more grip, and a more skate-like feel with small quads (4x90mm for example).

Twin 115mm fins in the rear boxes for super smooth surfing and amazing snaps.

Strapped or strapless?

Riding strapless is sexy because you feel free. You get the same sensations as surfing and you have the mobility on the board to play in the waves. It's a very pure riding style, but difficult to master.

With straps, you can be sure your board will stay firmly attached to your feet, even during the most challenging aerial maneuvers. You'll have much more control and a step up in performance.

So it's up to you to decide if feel is more important than performance. Put your straps in the central position (3rd hole) for the front straps, and the same for the rear strap if you always ride in the straps.

If you want to be able to get your back foot out for transitions and surfing, place the back strap in the first hole.

The Matata Kite FSP 2X are equipped with high-end pads that provide maximum grip.

These boards are fitted with four Single Tab boxes to allow for increased connection between your board and your favorite fins.

The multiple strap inserts allow for all adjustments from beginner to Pro.

You can also use your board for surfing; a leash plug will ensure you never lose it. Everything you need is there.
