Programme

The adjustable carbon Tail Wing that maximises support, control and rail-to-rail freedom for radical surfing in all types of waves.

Overview

The Ypra Surf Carve V3 Atmo Pro Team Series Tail Wing is designed to push hard through carves while keeping the foil precise, stable and fully under control.

Its moderate 7.5 aspect ratio delivers the best balance of support, glide and manoeuvrability. It holds acceleration without becoming too cumbersome in rail changes, allowing you to tighten carve radius significantly and link turns quickly.

Its relatively thin, powerful profile delivers precise pressure under the front foot. It stabilises trim, lets you load carves with commitment, and strongly supports speed build-up without locking the foil in as speed increases.

This support prevents trim from running into pitch oscillations when the rider pushes through the bottom turn, crosses whitewater or gets hit by a sudden burst of speed. The foil stays settled and pressure can be maintained all the way through the exit of the turn.

Its stretched outline through the tips frees up yaw and speeds up rail-to-rail transitions. The surface concentrated in the centre keeps strong support at the core and creates a very clear pivot point around which the foil rolls into carves.

Its slight real negative dihedral improves glide and makes high-speed carve entry easier. The thin tips reduce peripheral drag so you can correct, tighten or extend a line without fighting the tail wing.

Very forgiving in whitewater, turbulence, partial breaches and landings, it keeps a clear, readable response and settles back in quickly so you can link straight into the next turn.

Built in monolithic T400 carbon with CNC machining, it transmits rider input directly and faithfully holds its profile through the most committed carves.

The reference setup with a Tail Shaft Short and Shim Tail 0° maximises liveliness, tightens carve radius and delivers the best balance between front foot pressure, pitch control and rail-to-rail freedom.

Paired with the Ypra Surf Carve Front Wing, it creates a powerful, radical foil setup for imperfect, onshore, multi-peak waves or waves broken up by less supportive sections. With the Ypra Surf Fast, it secures acceleration in fast, hollow and powerful waves with strong support that never holds back speed.

Buying guide

For whom?

The Tail Wing Ypra Surf Carve V3 Atmo Pro Team Series is aimed at experienced to expert surfers who want to engage their curves frankly while maintaining a lot of control and margin.

It is suitable for riders looking for a lively, powerful and very maneuverable foil, with precise support under the front foot to charge without experiencing uncontrolled trim variations.

It is particularly suitable for surfers and wingers who like strong carves, snaps, rapid changes of direction, sharp relaunches and trajectories committed to the pocket.

Its behavior nevertheless remains healthy and tolerant enough to surf imperfect waves, onshore, multipeaks, crossed by foam or interspersed with less buoyant sections.

For what ?

The Ypra Surf Carve is developed for surf foiling and wing Radical foil in all types of waves.

In soft or imperfect waves, its powerful profile and central surface allow the Tail to be loaded Wing, to restart hard and keep a plane present under the feet when the slope decreases.

In onshore or multipeak waves, its maneuverability allows you to quickly change your trajectory, aim for another section and multiply rail changes without losing control of the trim.

In fast, hollow and powerful waves, its relatively thin profile accepts acceleration without sudden saturation. The support remains clear, but the foil continues to move forward without excessively raising the nose of the board.

It also tolerates foam, turbulence, partial exits and hard landings. The plane quickly realigns itself and lets the rider immediately take off again in a new curve.

Avoid if...

The Ypra Surf Carve is not developed to maximize long distances pumping on the flat. For this program, choose a Tail Wing Trail, Hyper Trail, Supra Trail or Ultra Trail depending on your level and your objectives.

It also does not aim for maximum performance in downwind or freefly. A Veloce DW will offer more glide and less pressure in the front foot on long trajectories.

For downwind racing and the highest speeds, the Veloce XTR will go much further in performance and stability at high speeds.

If you are looking above all for a very smooth, very guided and not very reactive plane, its reference Short assembly and its radical surfing program may seem too lively.

What size?

The choice of size depends on the Front Wing, the weight of the rider, the power of the waves and the level of support sought.

A large Ypra Surf Carve provides more front foot, longitudinal control and power on relaunch. It stabilizes the aircraft in choppy waves, but slightly reduces rail-to-rail freedom and speed.

A small size frees up more of the forehead Wing, reduces drag and makes direction changes even faster. On the other hand, it requires more precision in trim variations and provides less support when the speed decreases.

In soft, imperfect or onshore waves, a Tail Wing sufficiently supportive helps maintain support and restart between sections.

In very fast and powerful waves, a smaller size can free up speed and reduce pressure in the front foot, as long as you maintain enough control to hold accelerations.

The best size is the one that allows you to load the curves without suffering the plane, while maintaining the freedom necessary to quickly engage the next one.

What assembly?

In this configuration, the tail wing is in Upper mount.

It can be mounted on a Carbon Tail with its corresponding Upper wedge, or on a Tail Shaft Upper associated with a Shim Tail Upper.

It cannot be mounted on a Tail Shaft Lower or a Shim Tail Lower. The Upper and Lower architectures use different geometries and bases.

The reference setup uses a Tail Shaft Short and a Shim Tail Upper 0°. This combination maximizes liveliness, reduces cornering radii and provides the best balance of downforce, pitch control and rail-to-rail freedom.

Always start with this assembly to discover the character intended by the designer before changing the length or incidence.

Why an upper assembly?

The Upper assembly places the Tail Wing above the Shim Tail in an architecture particularly suited to surfing and rapid changes of direction.

It provides a compact, direct and precise rear system, which immediately transmits variations in support in carves, snaps and restarts.

This position also limits the exposure of the Tail Wing to bottom hits when the rider surfs in little water or approaches a reef, a sandbank or the edge.

Associated with a Tail Shaft Short, the Upper assembly allows the curve radii to be greatly reduced and the plane to remain very lively underfoot.

What does Shim Tail 0° mean?

The Shim Tail 0° maintains the reference incidence calculated for the Ypra Surf Carve.

It does not mean that the Tail Wing is horizontal in relation to the fuselage. The native incidence necessary for its operation is directly integrated into its carbon seat.

The Shim Tail number only indicates the angle added or removed from this reference.

0° is therefore always the best starting point to understand the balance of the Tail. Wing before adapting the front foot or the longitudinal behavior of the aircraft.

What angle should you choose with a Ypra Surf Carve?

The Shim Tail 0° is the reference assembly with the Front Wing Ypra Surf Carve. It offers the best balance between front foot, freedom, pitch control and recovery.

A negative angle number progressively adds front foot and reinforces the support of the Tail Wing. The -1° allows you to load the curves more, strongly stabilize the trim and restart with a lot of power.

This setting is particularly suitable for imperfect waves, soft sections or riders who like to push very hard on their front leg.

However, it increases drag and requires more effort in the front leg. So start with 0° before testing -1°.

What angle should you choose with a Ypra Surf Fast?

The Shim Tail 0° offers a very controlled balance with the Front Wing Ypra Surf Fast. It secures acceleration and maintains enough support to hold curves in fast and powerful waves.

The +1° reduces the front foot and further frees up the speed of the aircraft. The Front Wing accelerates more freely, but the rider must manage the trim more precisely with the rear foot.

This setting is suitable for very fast and hollow waves as well as for expert surfers who want to reduce rear downforce without losing control of the trajectory.

What length of Tail Shaft?

The Tail Shaft Short is the reference assembly of the Ypra Surf Carve.

It reduces the wheelbase of the aircraft, accelerates pitch reactions and makes it possible to significantly tighten the curve radii. It's the natural choice for snaps, quick changes of direction and radical surfing.

The Tail Shaft Medium provides more longitudinal stability and progressivity. It maintains good maneuverability while slightly calming the plane in powerful or disorderly waves.

The Long Tail Shaft maximizes drive and trajectory hold. It gives more guided and very progressive curves, but clearly reduces the liveliness and radical character sought on this model. Not suitable.

The choice depends on your style. Short for radicality, Medium for compromise, Long is not recommended.

Which Front Wing ?

The Front Wing Ypra Surf Carve is the natural combination of this Tail Wing. They share the same DNA of power, control and handling.

This combo excels in imperfect waves, onshore, multipeaks or interspersed with less buoyant sections. It allows you to charge the curves, to restart strongly and to multiply the changes of direction.

With the Front Wing Ypra Surf Fast, the Tail Wing Surf Carve provides the front foot and control needed to harness speed in fast, hollow, powerful waves.

It also works very well with a Ypra Surf Freestyle when the rider is looking for more control in curves, landings and relaunches.

Associated with a Fluid, it increases the precision of the front foot and makes the plane more direct and more radical in changes of direction.

It can more broadly be associated with wave-oriented Front Wings when the objective is to add support, maneuverability and a strong presence in carves.

How to progress in the settings?

Start with a Tail Shaft Short, Shim Tail 0° and Tail Size Wing consistent with your Front Wing.

Use this setup for enough sessions to understand the front foot level, rail-to-rail speed, and how the airplane behaves during acceleration.

Then only change one setting at a time. Tail size Wing, the length of the Tail Shaft, the incidence of the Shim Tail and the position of the foil in the boxes can each significantly modify the balance.

If the plane lacks lead foot or becomes too free in turns, first test a negative angle number or Tail Wing bigger.

If it loads the front leg too much or resists acceleration, try a higher Shim Tail angle or Tail size Wing smaller.

The best setting is the one that allows you to really load the curves while retaining enough freedom to move on without parasitic correction.

"

Compatibility

In this configuration, the tail wing is in Upper mount.

It works with:

  • a compatible Carbon Tail and its corresponding wedge;
  • a Tail Shaft V3 Upper and a Shim Tail Upper;
  • a Tail Shaft Micro V3 Atmo Upper and a Shim Tail Upper.

The V3 and Micro V3 Atmo Tail Shafts are not interchangeable on the fuselage side.

The Shims Tails can be mounted either on Tails Shafts V3 or Micro V3.

The Tail Wing On the other hand, it remains compatible with both diameters, because the impression which receives it is common. You simply need to use the Tail Shaft and Shim Tail adapted to the diameter of the fuselage.

It cannot be mounted on a Shim Tail Lower or a Tail Shaft Lower.
