The super playful foil to get started and progress!
Introduction
The X-Over will be the wing on which you’ll learn how to take off, stabilize the flight and nail your first maneuvers.
The great strength of this foil is its versatility over time. Perfect for your first flights, its glide and forgiveness will allow you to go very far in your progression without having to upgrade your foil. Nothing is off the table with this front wing so have as much fun as you can with it.
It is an accessible shape, efficient for its volume and which will excel in all foiling disciplines: winging, prone foiling, SUP foiling, dockstarts…
With its early and gentle takeoff, there is no need to pump the wing frantically: everything happens very naturally. The wing is predictable and does not create excessive lift. You don’t have to put all your weight on the front foot to stabilize yourself. It is really the perfect wing to discover the sensations of foiling.
Its very modern profile opens up a very wide range of use. It accepts flying at very low speed without stalling but also impressive speeds for this kind of shape.
The X-Over is very stable but not locked. Thanks to its twisted tips and its negative dihedral, it is really a playful but very predictable foil that switches from one rail to another very easily. It is really a foil that will accompany you for a very long time in your progression without ever restraining you.
In winging, the foil gets off your mind: no need to be ultra focused on your stance. It allows you to be more focused on the wing. For most beginners, it is a welcome comfort to be able to concentrate almost exclusively on the handling of the wing.
In surfing, the X-Over is very forgiving. When you’re still learning how to properly place the foil in the power zone of the wave to not be overwhelmed, you need a docile and predictable foil. These are exactly the qualities of the X-Over. Once you have this knowledge under your belt, its maneuverability allows you to make solid surf turns. This front wing really excels in soft waves and average conditions to the point that some experienced members of the GONG Team use it over other models for its maneuverability / lift ratio. It allows solid turns and pumps easily even with a small surface area.

Shape
The shape of the X-Over is entirely designed around accessibility, versatility and evolution. Every detail is thought out to make your flight easier, whatever your foil sport and to accompany you during your evolution.
Ratio
The aspect ratio remains moderate even if it has been slightly increased compared to the previous version for a better glide. A moderate aspect ratio offers a lot of efficiency at low speed. Ideal for taking off early, flying without having to go fast, crossing disturbed areas without stalling and tolerating pilot errors. A moderate aspect ratio will also simplify the use of the foil. Its contained wingspan is globally more practical and safer too, be it on land or in the water, as you’re less likely to bump your feet on the foil. Finally, this moderate aspect ratio will give more maneuverability. Useful when you have reached the next level but also interesting to quickly correct a piloting error when you’re not there yet. Limiting your falls is what it’s also about.
Outline
Its very curved outline on the leading edge projects the tips towards the back of the wing to bring a very natural feeling in turns. The foil engages effortlessly into a new curve. Ideal for getting into jibes! The set-back tips also provide additional pitch stability: up and down dolphin-like movements of the board are lessened. It makes it easier to learn to fly and it allows you to tame the turns without feeling like you’re walking on eggshells. This very curved outline brings a lot of the useful volume for the lift to the center of the wing. This boosts the maneuverability of a rather locked wing on paper. As a result, the tips are much thinner than the heart of the wing, which unlocks the foil in curves with a very easy rail to rail.
Type of profile
The profile is generous all over the wing to maximize its lift and simplify take-off. The X-Over’s ability to fly at low speeds is absolutely insane. You can cruise quietly over the body of water. You can make mistakes without suffering a sudden stall. Though it doesn’t fly as fast as a Veloce or a Ypra, it still has excellent acceleration capacity when you’re putting the hammer down!
The profile of the wing is ultra modern. Its volume has been moved back to combine lift and top speed. The speed range is wide. It carries at low speed and slides very well to reach high speeds for this type of shape. In surfing, this new profile provides a very progressive lift. You can take your time to get up, without getting out.
Camber
The camber is curved in the center and horizontal at the tips, which offers many advantages:
- The rail to rail is very smooth and without surprise skidding.
- You can tilt the foil in curves or when heading upwind without breaching because the tips remain far from the surface. We lower the risk of falling.
- In a straight line, the camber rests on the water which guides the foil on a healthy trajectory. A beginner will feel less overwhelmed by this foil which won’t go in all directions.
- The horizontal tips offer more surface contact with the bottom during hazardous starts. This avoids damaging the tips on the bottom. These are the most fragile parts of the foil, but unfortunately, when you start you will often hit the bottom, especially when surf foiling! This small detail will greatly extend the life expectancy of your foil.

Stab
The shape of the X-Over stabs was designed with two things in mind: flight stability and low-speed lift. However, it is far from limited to a low end use thanks to its longer and thinner profile that delivers a really good top speed.
Similar to the rest of the newer range, the profile has been improved to get a more progressive lift and handle a higher top speed compared to previous versions. On the 90° tip winglets, the profile isn’t lifty. The main role of the tips is to act as a fin to improve yaw control. The foil goes straight in the axis of the board, without skidding, but it turns and remains manageable: flying in the axis does not mean locking the foil! Just press on one side and it enters the curve properly to start your best jibes.

Buying guide
For whom?
You saw a bunch of foilers having a blast and you want to join the party? The X-Over is a perfect entry point to get into foiling and evolve, be it in wing, kite, surf or SUP foiling!
For what?
Discover the world of foiling, stabilize the flight, send your first maneuvers, but above all to have a versatile foil that works in all conditions and for all foil sports by adapting the size of the mast!
What size?
The X-Over foil XXL size is a big foil for foilers over 85kg or light wind conditions.
General: a bigger front wing will be used in low ranges, in soft conditions. And conversely a smaller front wing in stronger conditions. What you need to remember is that the choice of your wing depends on your size, which requires lift, and your average speed, which generates lift.
Quiver partner?
The ALLVATOR V2 Wing X-Over foil is ideal for use with a progressive Wing board like HIPE, Lance or Zuma, or a more technical board like Flint.
Positioning of the foil ?
For the GONG foils, place it in the middle of the US rails.
The more you move it forward, the more it makes the board pitch up. The further you move it backwards, the more the nose of the board dives.
Be careful not to move it too far forward. We often tend to forget to use the back foot, especially when we have a kitefoil background. However, moving the foil back a little forces you to put more weight on the back foot and gives a more harmonious attitude and reduces effort.
