The Matata kiteboard offers optimal output in low wind ranges and incredible heading and planing abilities.

Introduction

The Matata kiteboard is inspired from the Simmons concept: boards that plane easily, that are compact and agile.

With its close to parallel back rails and its giant square tail, it’s the queen of lightwind: its early planing is second to none. Not to mention its heading !!! Just amazing. You can really feel the efficiency of the rail that edges and sets the board in line. No need to twist your body to gain 5° on the wind : It’s heading upwind like no other !

Yet the sailing is easy and smooth, even in choppy water, with its super-soft belly nose that evacuates the water instead of tapping on it.

Its DNA is surfing. Its capacities in the turns are boosted due to its smaller size, with heightened reactivity. The reduced size gives you more mastering on the wave face and a skate feeling that’s even stronger. The pinnacle for a board concept that’s genetically fast and smooth and that will perform in small waves. Its surfing glide and its restarts allow you to forget your kite that you can let drift while you focus on the surf. It’s super enjoyable because you really surf, even in poor conditions.

This is the perfect board for early planing, cruising and heading upwind in a freeride program. But above all, the Matata is a fantastic surfboard that will turn average days into memorable sessions.

Shape

The Matata kiteboard is the GONG version of the Simmons concept, the first planing boards developed before the middle of the last century.

To sum-up a Simmons concept, we have :

  • An ultra wide tail with a deep concave to lift and remain very maneuverable even at low speeds.
  • A belly (convex) under the nose for a smooth passage in the choppy water.
  • A surf-style rocker at the nose that becomes almost flat at the rear, which gives the board a real surfer character.

This compact shape focuses on the flow of water under the board: the diffusion of the water under the nose, and the concentration and then the ejection of the water under the tail. This combination of phenomena gives incredible performance.

And don’t imagine that it’s just an oversized board: this board is super manoeuvrable. Firstly because it’s short, but mainly because the accelerated flow of water between the fins gives a super smooth pivot from one twin fin to the other.

This shape is a legend in lightwind kiting.

Equipments

The MATATA KITE FSP 2X are equipped with a high-end pad for maximum grip.

These boards are equipped with four FCS II boxes to insert and remove your favorite fins without tools.

The multiple straps inserts allow all adjustments from beginner to Pro.

You can also use your board for surfing, a leash plug will allow you to never lose it. Nothing is missing.

Construction

These boards are equipped with an innovative technology called FSP 2X for the best weight / strength / performance compromise on the market. The gain is significant since on average 15% lighter than the 2019 FSPs.

The addition of a biaxial fibre reinforces the board,  so no concession has been made on the exemplary solidity of FSPs, on the contrary.

The PVC sandwich forms a 3mm hydrophobic shell over the entire board. This PVC sandwich offers the best dynamism while preserving strength, at an incredible weight.

It is by designing a new finishing technique, as close as possible to our prototypes made in our French factory, that we have succeeded in saving weight. We work with tinted resins to avoid as much as possible the paint that loads the board unnecessarily. Paint integrated into the resin, your board is enhanced with nobility and durability.

Shape

  • Rocker : almost flat on the tail and a surf rocker at the nose reinforced with the belly.
  • Rails: full and hard in the back and rounded on the front.
  • Volume: generous but without exces to maintain mad performance in small waves.

  • Hull: Full PVC/Fiberglass sandwich composed of a high density PVC foam core and 2 layers of 4oz fiberglass, one layer of 6oz Biaxial fiberglass, and fiberglass reinforcements on the sensitive areas such as the fin boxes.
  • Rails: the PVC sandwich structure completely covers the rails: increased structural strength, incredible impact resistance (heel or knee impacts).
  • Tinted Resin hot coat: nobility within the process, weight saving and solidity of the finish.
  • Matt “custom finish”, hand-made, for weight saving and better glide.

The FSP 2X technology is easily repairable to new in case of dings. The PVC foam of the sandwich is waterproof and avoids water intake from everyday shocks. The EPS foam blank does not deteriorate because it’s well protected from water. And repairs have a much larger support to lean on and blend seamlessly with the surrounding material.

This technology offers, at an affordable price, the incomparable solidity/lightness ratio of the vacuum-assisted full PVC sandwich.

From beginners to pros who like to ride in small conditions, this board is fabulous.

The beginners will appreciate its natural glide and its ease to go through the choppy water. The board lifts a lot, which allows you to navigate in accessible conditions without being afraid.

The pros will love its skate feeling and its surfing DNA. In small waves, the Matata kiteboard is great.

The Matata kiteboard will work wonderfully with a Unik to have lightness and softness in the ride.

Paired with a large Strutless, the Matata will be formidable in the light wind. Nobody will plane sooner than you !!!

And in a stronger wind, what better than a 3-batten top kite like the Freewave to throw down some moves!

Quiver partners ?

You can complete the low range with a Catch Foil when the wind is really light.

As soon as the wind picks up a little more, a Fatal or an Alu will allow you to go looking for more radical sailing.

Which settings ?

The Matata kiteboard is mounted in Quad with FCSII boxes. You are free to assemble the set of fins of your choice. All FCSII fin models are available on our website.

The quad setting offers more grip, and a more skaty feel if you  go for a small quad (4x90mm for example).

With 115mm twin fins in the rear boxes you’ll have a super smooth glide in the surf and mind-boggling snaps.

Strapped or strapless ?

Riding strapless is sexy because you feel free. You’ll find the sensations of surfing and the mobility on the board to play with the waves. It’s a very pure style of riding but difficult to master.

With the straps, you are sure that your board will stay hooked to your feet, even in the most committed aerial maneuvers. You will have a lot more control and performance will be a step above.

It’s up to you to choose between feeling and performances. Put your straps in the central position (3rd hole) for the front, and the same goes for the rear strap.

If you want to be able to remove the rear foot for transitions and surfing, place the rear strap on the first hole.

  • We sell simply without an intermediary thanks to the internet: direct from shaper to surfer.
  • If we sold this board in a surfshop, it would cost 899€ (taking into account traditional margins that we should offer to distributers and stores).

 

Shipping

Availability:

The dates of availability of all our products are written on each product page, in the size and colour of the product concerned.

These dates are valid at the moment you consult the site and/or place an order. It is possible that this product may be ordered a few seconds after your consultation. It then becomes unavailable. If you have placed an order, this change does not concern you: the product you order is still available on the date indicated at the time of your order.

We sell several thousand products per week. The stocks are therefore very evolutionary. But our management always shows you the real availability live.

Pre-order:

Some articles are proposed in pre-order during their routing to our premises. You can buy this article which will arrive at our place in a few weeks. This method avoids the fair to grab upon receipt of the lot and the disappointed ones who would not order within the hour.

Upon receipt, we will ship it to you as a regular order.

The times indicated on the pre-orders are 95% reliable. First of all, because we only pre-sell finished products that are arriving to us after Customs, and therefore shipped right after. And also, because we add decent margins with concern to the dates announced by the shipping companies or railways.

However, a Worker Strike, a breakdown, an overbooking, can unfortunately happen. In the case of a delay, you will be notified by email (check your spam). It is generally less than a week and totally independent of our good will.

As soon as we receive the container in La Baule, we ship your order within three working days. Then the carrier takes over: delivery time and tracking numbers are under their responsibility.

It is possible that the date displayed on the online for the pre-order of the item you have ordered and paid for may change for two reasons:

  1. All quantities of the batch are sold (most common reason). In this case, orders placed for the first container will be delivered as scheduled.
  2. The container is late and we have to shift the date by a few days. (Strikes, breakdowns, overbooking, can unfortunately happen). You will be notified by email.

We never change the delivery dates of a container without notifying customers.

 

Delays:

The dates that we announce are shipping deadlines, which GONG has in stock and available here physically.

We usually give a shipping time within 3 days, but in most cases, we ship within 24/48 hours. Normally morning orders leave in the afternoon for example.

Then the transport service takes over. The variables are then important between the customer being delivered to France (very fast) or Bulgaria (a good week) or to a forwarding agent or to Asia or the USA… You understand that each location has its own type of delay.

We work with serious and well-known carriers. They do their utmost to make you happy even if a snafu can happen. In any case, we are there to make things easier and to arrange our customers.

 

Shipping Fees: 

Contrary to others, we do not hide shipping costs in the price of our products. At GONG everyone knows exactly what he pays. The transport is charged at its strictest value, and the person who comes to pick up his products does not pay hidden transport fees.

Shipping costs are calculated according to the weight and volume of each package, and your delivery address. To this is added a labour time of order preparation.

The invoicing of the shipping costs is identical in continental France and in the bordering European countries. A surcharge is automatically invoiced for deliveries to the most distant European countries and all European islands.

For a shipment in French overseas departments and territories or outside Europe, our logistics department will contact you before the payment stage to give you an estimate of the shipping costs. You will be able to accept this estimate and pay your order, or refuse it and cancel your order.

We answer you within 24 hours by email. But 95% of your questions are answered on the site. Try to use our contact form which will guide you to all these answers.

Don’t forget to read the Forum, where thousands of users exchange information and experiences.

In any case, don’t panic. If you don’t get an answer during the weekend, it’s normal: the team is resting 😉

Preserving the environment is a top priority. That’s why we are doing everything possible to reduce our environmental footprint.

The first thing is to sell quality products that will last, be repairable and will please you for a long time.

The second thing is to sell for less. Most of the pollution coming from a Board is in its use (the km driven to use it) and in the countless environmental damages you have to do to pay for it. Each euro spent is a sum of damage related to your life quite simply: eating, working hard etc… By reducing the price of our products, we significantly reduce your ecological footprint on this item.

For our shipments we use:

  • Flexi-Hex: ecological packaging of very high resistance.
  • Paper Craft Scotch Tape.
  • Final packaging made of high-end cardboard.

All this for:

  • Reusable and recyclable packaging.
  • An almost total reduction of single-use plastic.
  • Maximum protection and impact resistance thanks to the innovative design of Flexi-Hex honeycomb (35mm thick).

 

Tracking of your parcels :

The tracking of deliveries is directly ensured by the carriers to whom we have entrusted your parcels. They will contact you by email or SMS to allow you to choose the delivery methods and to follow the route of your package.

If you ask us for this tracking, we will have to do as you do: we will go see on the carrier’s app because they are the ones who manage and are responsible for this job.

 

Delivery:

We collaborate with the best transport providers to deliver you everywhere in Europe and in the world in very short delays.

We have chosen them for their quality of service and their respect of deadlines. 80% of your orders reach their destination in less than 48 hours of processing in metropolitan and continental France.

For Europe, the delays vary from 3 to 6 days depending on the country of destination.

For the rest of the world, delays can be up to 15 days.

Please note that the transport time is added to the preparation/shipping time. Two companies work on your order (GONG and the carrier). Each one controls its activity and commits itself to optimize its delays so that you are delivered as soon as possible, in good condition and at a reasonable price.

 

Reception of your Board:

Upon delivery, simply open and inspect the condition of your Board in the presence of the carrier. A complete email explaining the procedure to follow will be sent to you when your order is shipped.

In spite of our requirements and all the care we take in packaging and protecting your Board, transportation hazards may occur. Even if it concerns less than 2% of everything we ship around the world, a Board can suffer a more or less important transportation shock.

But in any case, don’t worry, just refuse it, and a new Board will be shipped back to you.

 

Returns:

You can choose to return your products if:

  • You are not satisfied (14 days right of retraction).
  • You want to change an item.
  • You have refused your package.

    Fraichement sortie de l’eau, j’ai pu tester la Matata 4’11 dans un vent de 10/13 noeuds un peu mou, plan d’eau houleux et quelques bonnes vagues de temps en temps sur la barre de La Baule, pour ceux qui connaissent.

    C’est une planche hyper joueuse, qui remonte très bien au vent et qui permet d’aller taquiner la houle et s’éclater dans les conditions light, pendant que les copains galères au bord à essayé de sortir du shorebreak avec des planches plus perf lol

    Elle remonte au vent +++ et devient encore plus fun à utiliser, avec des straps pour substituer un twintip classique. Pour mes 65kg et sauver des sessions ultra light, je l’adore.

    On voit bien sur ces photos le travail de carène sur la Matata avec un tail ultra large doté d’un profond concave. La planche est une bête de lightwind et surfe à merveille.

    Une bête dans tous les domaines:
    En kite freeride, elle porte tôt et cape de folie. Une bête pour le Low wind. A avoir dans son quiver, ne serait-ce que pour cette raison.
    En Kite un peu plus péchu, elle s’accroche avec son montage Quad et passe les clapots en les avalant. Permettant de toiler un peu moins.
    Sa légèreté permet des sauts sans la perdre.
    Et sa conception hyper solide permet des replacages pas souvent tout en douceur.
    En Surf, juste du pur plaisir.
    Les mers ”carrées” d’Espagne sont avalées.
    Pour moi qui ai commencé avec la 5.6 en bambou, une vraie révélation dans ses améliorations.

    Premier passage au shop hier : chez Gong ils ne font pas le pont, et heureusement vu le monde ?. J’en repars notamment avec une kiteboard pour le light : la matata est magique, elle pointe même en direction de l’eau !

    Retour sur la Gong Matata 5’3″:
    Après plusieurs sessions je peux vous faire un petit retour sur cette planche directionnelle dédiée au lightwind.
    Le shape reprend le principe des Mini Simmons adapté au kite.
    La fabrication est un sandwich pvc pont et carène, assurant ainsi solidité et réactivité à la planche.
    Le pads cette année est de 5mm apportant un confort supplémentaire et une préservation accrue de la planche.
    Testée en quad FCSII Performer M, avec une aile de 15m² et une 12m².
    Conditions des tests: de 10 nds à 18 nds, du plan d’eau plat clapoteux à des vagues de 80cm
    La première chose qui frappe sur cette planche c’est sa capacité à planer tôt et à conserver le planning dans les molles. La planche accélère très vite pour atteindre une vitesse de croisière élevée, avec un rapport cap vitesse assez impressionnant dans le light.
    Gros avantage pour pouvoir surfer et se replacer facilement sur le plan d’eau en side on ou side.
    Dans des conditions side ou side on la planche se surfe comme une Mini Simmons et accélère fort entre les sections. Sa seule limite (mais ce n’est pas son programme) ce sont les vagues plus creuses de la reforme.
    L’amorce de la courbe se fait en douceur avec une bonne conduite sur le rail pour aller taper le off the lip, ou le petit air vu l’arrière bien large de la planche.
    Elle est très saine et n’enfourne pas avec son petit nez relevé.
    Sur du plat une bonne vitesse est facile à atteindre et à conserver. Dans le fort clapot croisé et serré la planche le passe sans taper. Le belly et le concave ne doivent pas y être étrangers. Vu le shape je m’attendais à ce que ça tape plus …
    Le jibe est super facile avec sa largeur et son volume. Ca peut être un très bon choix pour un débutant qui veut apprendre à jiber sans couler de suite.
    En conclusion cette planche excelle dans le light et pour caper. Sa puissance et sa glisse sous les pieds permet de mettre de la toile pour sauver des sessions de lightwind sans foil.
    Un rapport qualité prix imbattable !
