Salut,

Hi, thank’s for taking time and answer…
I apologize I was not able to explain me correctly …my point was not to let you produce more. Only You can judge what is the appropriate production rate that you are comfortable with. My point was only to do not force your customer to continually watch for product availability and instead let them freely, place the order that they need independently from when the product will be available. It’s not a matter of having enough products to fulfill all the orders that You receive at once. It’s only a matter to leave more freedom to your customers and let them place their orders, not only when you post that the products will soon arrive/ be available, that will ,as you do now, force them to continually look for product availability; but instead, as I wrote let them place the order freely and then process and ship their order when you will be able to fulfill them.

Anyway…it’s your businnes I do not want to teach you anything

Prunzi, you should also look at the frequency Gong models are evolving. If some mature markets (SUP) do not see a lot of changes, new foil/wing models are announced nearly each month, and thus existing models also disappear. This has been going on for more than 10 years. At some time, SUP shapes evolved every quarter. This is not a mature market with products not changing, or changing at predetermined (yearly) dates. Plus Chinese factories come and go constantly.

So, people having paid for a model too long in advance would probably be more upset if they learn months later that the model has changed or is suppressed. Better not let people pre-order than making false promises.

This is something I can agree with you… but at some point it’s better to have “persistent models” that last for one season, because if you change every 3 months, this will inevitably upset customers… this applies in every industrie branch, not only in wing, surf, sup.
Beside the feeling of buying already old products, that upset the customer, you give also the feeling that you do not care your customer, that you trie to sell whatever you have on stock, and changing many times a year products, for newer equiparabile model gives also the feeling that you sell prototypes, not well studied products! This inevitably damage the brand (GONG) in this case, and lower the values of the buyer products… it’s a very silly way to handle the businnes.

Ps. This is not only my opinion. This Phenomenon is very well known and studied in economics and business…It’s not that I want damage GONG, on the contrary, I’m very happy with your products. I just wanted to suggest, not to leave unhappy customer “on the road”.
The production rate is not something I know, nor that I want to suggest. My point was only to “ loose “ the constraints to “ wait for availability “.
As you have probably already realized there are many customers complaining that they continually need to look on the gong-web for having the possibility to order. This has nothing to do with the numbers of products that you order this has more to do with the politics you apply fo reorder on your supplier, but hey.. if you are happy this way… it’s your businnes not mine.
I just wanted to advise that this kind of problems will persist even if you sell ( as I really wish you could, because the products and the after sale service is really good, and you deserve it) 5 or even 10 times the products you sell monthly.
This is only one easy to solve organization problem!
But again, if you are happy this way…it’ s your businnes ;-)).

First, I am not part of the Gong team. I have been actively following them for more than 10 years however, so I can share some knowledge on how Gong operates. This is not a statement on their part, not reflect their current position, just some background external info gathered during the years.

Second, if customers want a product, it would be silly not to sell it to them. Gong is not reducing production just on a whim. Building thousands of boards is a constant production challenge, even more in these covid times, where a shortage of a resin can prevent FCS to provide fin boxes for months, and then prevent Gong to produce boards. Same at some time with the shortage of zippers for the bags, etc...

Third, Patrice is constantly in creative mode (but he cannot focus on everything at the same time, some time it is on SUP, or surf, or kites, or wings, or foils, ...), so advances (and tests) happen in random times, just like for all creative activities. And when he is satisfied ona good enhacement on a design, what can he do? just wait till next year models, or offer it immediately? Gong chose to make innovations immediately available, and they gained fiercely loyal customers this way. For instance, there would have been no way for us heavyweight to enjoy the insanely fun world of sub-7' SUPs if Gong hadn't existed. Even if this meant that some models stayed available only 3 months because the state of the art was progressing so fast.

Fourth, Gong had been burned a lot by unreliable factories (mostly their unreliable managers). I personally pre-ordered a model (Electric 911 L), and waited... 18 months for it to be finally cancelled, as the Tunisian factory just promised them but never delivered them, and Gong had to go to China for production. And factories went bankrupt, or their manager fled with the money, or employees fled bad management, etc... sh*t happens constantly. If you are only producing 10 boards a week, it is not the same world.

And Believe me, I prefer A LOT not being able to order than ordering a board and then being told each month that it will be coming the next week... for months, even years (as I experienced with other brands than Gong). If you cannot order, it is clearer, you can find solution elsewhere if you have constraints, such as an upcoming trip.
