Suggestions de protos
Re: Suggestions de protos
This thread has gone very quiet!
Very happy with my current combination of Miracle and Dark but would like a short, versatile board for travel.
There is still alot of enthusiasm, particularly in Australia ( and partly encouraged by Colas!) for the tomo/vanguard/simmons concept for a relatively short and narrow design with wide tail - eg 7'x27"x95-100l for 70kg. There is a picture of l'Ours making a prototype of this kind of design earlier in this thread. Is this being followed up? Or does l'Ours think that his other designs eg the 100l Cloud xtr do the same job just as well but in a different way?
My apologies - this question is too difficult for my schoolboy French

Re: Suggestions de protos
Hello,
Simmons shapes are really different than others. I am 2000% convinced that it works so well in many different conditions and for most of the guys in the water. But … It looks like a Simmons … And people are afraid of that.
It is always the same story: it will not turn, it will be slow, it is too short… But when guys try it: they fall in love at the first wave.
Why? Because it is 100% fun and it provides a huge positive ratio of fun and function. It is sooo fast that it permits to all zero to mid level surfers to improve their surf.
So will I make more? Yes.
Will they be in the line? No.
Am I working on prototypes? Yes.
Keep in touch,

Re: Suggestions de protos
Note that, as much as I love the wide tails, I am not convinced that the square nose is the solution in all cases. We will need more tests! (soon I hope ...)

Re: Suggestions de protos
1. I would like a new Caribou Soul, with some improvements.
Less width and less volume than Soul (70cm and 100-105 lit)
But the same shape in general. Not as "thick" and volumeous as the IT. Maybe with some features taken from the Pampa, to make it able to plane and pump for speed.
A classic radical but not to unstable nose rider!!
2. A more radical 9' performance longboard. In between the Caribou Zero/NFA9 XTR and the Freak XTR.
72cm wide to get more speed than the NFAs
NFA9 rocker? More rocker than the Zero anyway
105-110 litres
A radical longboard but stable enough for windchop.

Re: Suggestions de protos
Patrice, can you remind me about your prototype design and sale arrangements; construction (?xtr only,) cost and timing?
I will be buying some kind of simmons/tomo next. I have faith in your shapes for Euro waves (also have a Faking and used to have an Angel.)
I would be looking for dimensions roughly as I suggested above. Blunt nose, round nose or semi pointed nose doesn't seem to be the most important design feature.

Hello,
I am looking for a faster solution to make prototypes. More info maybe soon.
Thanks,

Re: Suggestions de protos
Thanks; so my other question was whether a more conventional shape like the Cloud XTR 100l does the same job just as well but in a slightly different way. "Same job" would mean fast, very good in mediocre waves but wide range of use so manageable in better waves.

Re: Suggestions de protos
Yes, I would say that the Cloud is even more efficient and versatile.
Simmons shapes are very fun but have a greater latency in turns, and you must prepare them. Modern shapes like the cloud are faster rail to rail, more explosive, and easier to control.
I love the Simmons for their feel, but other shapes are more efficient, often with more accelerations.
See for instance Casso, one of the earlier adept of the Deep "Minions" that says it now use its "Paddlepop" 9 times out of 10, a design quite "cloud-like": (semi round nose, pulled in tail) http://www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Stan ... op-Review/

Merci,
Hi Everyone,
What's about a Simmons made for windsurfing, a little bit like the Matata for slow waves and onshore wind?
I'm thinking about a compact wave board around 80-90 liters, quad fins for a good ability to turn and the belly under the nose which allows to go threw the chop without damaging your back and knees.
Thanks
Nils
