Final 7'6 x 74, 105 proto
Final 7'6 x 74, 105 proto
Finally a morning without wind in France again. I tried the new proto in big falling tide, which made the waves quite slow. Only the bigger sets went through the current without stopping. 1-2 m slightly choppy waves.
The stability is good. better than my Dark which was my goal. The board is very light and it pops up over the wave faces going out. I have to learn to put a feet to hold the nose down. Once out it was good stability and movability.
Take off was really easy, not to much rowing effect. The nose does not dive and push water as the Dark did. And it is faster and starts moving earlier. And then it accelerates with the wave, wow!! Swish, down the wave. Speed is not slow and not fast. Faster than OD and quite equal to Dark, I think. I guess I can adjust the speed after a while with better technique?
Turning is very fast and also directional changes from side to side. The low weight helps of course. Quite good grip on the edge, not bouncing but the waves were slow as I mentioned before. It keeps going even on a slow flat part, with a paddle stroke if needed.
Thruster Gong setup. Maybe a whole other other experience with quad?
I will have another session tomorrow morning, in side off winds I hope.

Re: Final 7'6 x 74, 105 proto
for speed: I don't know of course this board, but xtr series need a dynamic drive by surfer. Legs pumping, legs movements, changing of feet pressure...... in other terms speed isn't always automatic as dark, but, in slow and mushy, you have to work ... but the result is amazing.

Hello,
thanks for the feedback.
FP is right : the XTR starts to make the difference when you pump the board and are very dynamic. The difference is amazing.
Thanks again.

Now I understand what you mean.
The board really comes to life with active body and paddle movement and it changes character completely.
So sharp turns and really good speed. Take offs are quite easy with the acceleration and nose rocker.
Amazing! Tested yesterday in 1-1,5 m beach break Gironde. No wind

Re: Final 7'6 x 74, 105 proto
Yes, I recognise the feeling now. Nervous and anxious to be pushed, is the sense I get from the board. Come on! Let's do it!
And the more you push the more feedback. Like a turbo charged engine. Without turbo it is like normal - but with the turbo wow!
This Final is not the most extreme shape in the XTR lines but for me it is a little new world to explore. I just hope to get more days in the future with conditions suitable for this board.

Re: Final 7'6 x 74, 105 proto
Hello,
thanks a lot for the feed back.
This shape can be explored during years and years for sure. It has a huge potential.
Let us know.

Re: Final 7'6 x 74, 105 proto
I read about the new Curve 2015 shapes. They are wider in the nose ofo, which is one of the reasons why I chose this board instead of the Dark. It makes it a lot more stable.
