Which NFA 10'

Message par IcSurf » ven. juin 05, 2020 9:08 am

Hello,

I want an NFA for cruising, training and taking small waves. I have the 9' 115L Zero for Surfing which I love.

I don't like touring or race boards and prefer to feel a surfboard shape under my feet. I'm 75kgs - which of the 2 NFA 10's will be quicker paddling and general cruising. 1 is slimmer (better for surfing!) and the other more volume - perhaps more glide when flat water cruising?

10 x 30 11/16 140L Fsp or Pro
OR
10 x 28 13/16 128L Pro

I'd prefer the thinner one for surfing but it's probably 60% cruise /fun paddle 40 % surf. I have the 9' Zero for medium to large surf..

I don't want the Perv as its too big although I know this is its program.

Thanks

So I would personally look more at a 12' zero or 12' NFA, the length will make the glide.

Otherwise, for your weight, the NFA 10' 128L (narrower) should be better than the 140L, unless maybe in heavy chop where the 140L may be a bit more out of the water... but a surf shape in chop will be slow anyways.

Thanks, I don't think I'm going to use this board when there's wind, my wing will cover these conditions. This board is for calm days when theres no surf or wind. Do a 40 to 60 min training paddle on my estuary. And the bonus will be if im at the beach with my family and there's a small wave I can surf it..

Yes, I was using a 9'6" 147 liters Soul for my 100kg for this purpose when I was in a country with flat summers, I too loved the feeling of a surf shape gliding in smooth water rather than a boat shape.

I prefer the pointed noses for flat water paddling, square noses push water.

True, I will stick with the NFA.

It's a shame Gong don't do 10' XS in Fsp. Almost 31" Wide seems alot of board for me in a 10' board..

Thanks for your help as always Colas..

Sorry, I haven't - yet - tried a zero.

Thoretically, the NFA will be more forgiving (more rocker, more width), and work better at slow speeds (small waves).
While the zero will be more efficient but less forgiving (faster but flatter rocker), and more at ease at speed.

You could say that the NFA is the perfect do-it-all longSUP shape (noserides and turns), while others are more specialized, e.g Zero for power, Neverstick for noseriding in slow waves, Soul for noseriding in fast waves,

Hi,

I guess Colas has pretty much said it all.
I have had the Zero 9'0 2019 and the NFA 9'0 XS 2020, here is how I would rate them:

Zero
Noseriding ***
Turns ****
fast waves ****
weak/small ***
overall feeling FAST&WILD

NFA
Noseriding ****
Turns ***
fast waves ***
weak/small ****
overall feeling EASY&RELIABLE
Mob 7’2 FSP PRO rad 2022
Zero 8'5 FSP PRO 2022
Karmen 7’8 PRO 2023
Karmen 7’3 PRO 2019
Pie 6’11 EPS
Carter 6’8 EPS
