Well, knowing what volume you ride and advising you what volume you should ride next are actually different questions.
Asking what volume you ride is a a quick and easy way to see roughly where you are in your progression, technically but also psychologically.
Extra volume bring 2 benefits:
- the board has less drag while paddling, so it is easier to take off when you dont have yet a good paddling technique.
- the "sweet spot" for your feet for balancing is wider.
But width is what gives the lateral stability
But volume has drawbacks: harder to bury the rails, heavier board, less control in powerful or fast waves.
So, for some uses, the volume has more advantages than drawbacks. For instance for weak slow waves to keep enough speed in weak sections to stay nimble, which is often the conditions longboards are used in , or for bigger faster waves (guns), where paddling speed is important for wave catching, which is essential.
So it can be logical to have a high volume Freak to have a stable platform to cross step without sinking the board in weak waves, and a low volume Zero as it is a shape designed more for powerful condirions.

Re: Tout savoir sur les Zero et Freak SP Pro !!!
It is now two years since the last Zero pro model was presented, we are waiting (in-)patiently. . .
I am actually a bit interested in these two shapes, with some updates. Maybe it's time for me to try a really narrow longboard again? But not more than 110 litres, rather 100- 105 litres.
