Swedish west coast october (photos)
Strong southwesterly wind during the night and then decreasing strength during the day, i.e. the perfect combo up here. Even the sun was shining over the rough sea. Some nice lines, 1-1,5m, coming in and not more than 15knots of wind.
Took the Gravity 10´2" at first and got some long rides with nice turns. Went with quad fin setup, a bit sketchy when going fast. I will try trifin next time on this spot.
Last week we had below zero degrees but appr 13 degrees today, did not even use the winter wetsuit.
No pictures on the water, since I was alone...
A good day!
How di I attach pictures??

Hi MagW,
To attach a photo, Coolas suggested the following method:
sign in on http://imgur.com
To upload photos drag 'n drop from your PC to the Imgur window
Once uploaded, copy on to the top right corner the "Direct Link (email & IM)"
In order to avoid "too big" photos, choose on the bottom right "Large Thumbnail" instead of "original image".
On the Gong forum click on the URL button, it will display "[ url]", delete the ] and type instead = and paste the link. Ex: [ url=http://i.imgur.com/vYneN.jpg]
On the Gong forum, now click the Img button, it will display "[ img]", paste the link. Ex [ img]http://i.imgur.com/vYneNl.jpg
Click again on the Img and URL buttons, and this is it.

After 2 hours I took the 7´2" O.D out. Tried with 3 fins but that was the wrong choice. The sea was rough and not clean lines. I will get a bigger backfin and run all 5 next session. It is too hard for me to catch waves and position myself with a small fin-area.
So I went back out to catch the last waves with the Gravity before the windswell died out.

Wow, conditions like on the pictures are a bit too rough for the 7'2" at first.
Try to have your first session on the 7'2" in less chop, if possible...
for fins, you could also to get twin fins (14cm deep) on the front sides. and 3 fins at the rear
Another option would be C-Drive fins, giving you less row when paddling but be still agile in turns.
But learning progressively on quieter conditions will be more efficient than just bigger fins...

No kidding!!coolas a écrit :Wow, conditions like on the pictures are a bit too rough for the 7'2" at first.
This was actually my 4th O.D wavesession, but the worst. Going round and round and falling of...
Probably because of the only 3 fins. Problem is, the sea is always rough here...
Thanks Coolas for input. I will get bigger fins for sure, 12cm original are not enough.
I was thinking 3 fins 14 cm in the back.
Less row and some more stability would help a lot!
Question:
Always assymetric on sidefins I suppose?
What size of C-drive fins would you suggest?
Any fins to recommend in the GONG Shop?

Front side fins are better if asymmetric. Rear ones can be symmetric for smoother turns, or asymmetric for more hold, or in between.
But for mastering the row, I guess anything works as long as they are big enough, and with a long base.
On C-Drives, I would advise twin fins in front, http://www.cdrivefins.com/categories/TWIN%252dFINNER/
and the rest according to your weight:
http://www.cdrivefins.com/pages/Sizing-Guide.html
Big C-Drives on the rear will counter the row even more, but will be too big once you get on the wave and want to turn.
Do not hesitate to mail troy (owner of C-Drive) if you want to mix fins of different sets, he can arrange any kind of order.
Normally for 64kg you should get XS front and QS rear... once you get your paddling technique OK for the row.
In the gong shop, the FCS FIN M5 XC QUAD should be good (Or scarfini H1 once in stock) for when you will have the board wired
I would complement them with either a SCARFINI FIN HX TWIN + TRAILER or FCS FIN PC M.R TFX TRI FIN set, so that you could use the big twins in front + the center trailer, and for the quad rear boxes either the front or rear quad fin set
On Gong boards, you can put too big fins in front without too much problems, but too big in the rear will make the board "track" (board want to get flat again in mid-turn). Not an issue in the firt sessions, of course, but better have a proper set available for oince you will master the board.
And, of course, avoid hitting the bottom with big fins...

Thanks for great input!
Ok, I just placed an order on Gong; FCS FIN PC M.R TFX TRI FIN set. They were on sale!
And I have contacted CDrive fins about a possible good combo.

Glad you agree! Yepp, in 2 weeks I hope to be on a new NFA9 board. If the stock level gets back to green...waterman a écrit :Very very choppy... Just like in Holland.
You will like the NFA 9'0. Easier compared to OD.
And with bigger fins on the O.D.

New thrusters compared to original Gong O.D7.2.
Much bigger area, longer base etc. Should make a big difference in the water I think.

New session today with very good Swedish waves and sideshorewind 15knots. 1-2 m faces breaking both left and right. No chop, almost anyway...
Me and 3 longboarders out, warm and sunny. Good spririt in the water!
Only pictures from the parkinglot, no one to take pictures when we were surfing. There even was some spray of the waves which is not that often here. The waves we ride are in the backround, 150m away. You can se some bigger sets on the pictures and some small lines to the left.
Happy!!
Took the 10,2 to be safe and did not have time to try the new fins on the 7,2. Next week I hope to receive the NFA9!! That would have been perfect today. Even noseridewaves to try today, breaking for quite long. Please use quick transportcompany
