Play between mast and plate
Play between mast and plate
I start to have play between the mast and the plate, sideways. Does anyone have the same and knows how to fix this?
Screws are tight.
thanks

Re: Play between mast and plate
Check that each part is clean, clean again, and try again. If screws are tight, there should be no play.

Re: Play between mast and plate
Everything is clean... I have 2 masts and one plate and it's the same with both masts. Do I need to change the plate maybe?

Re: Play between mast and plate
Hello,
Climatic conditions during the manufacturing can have a very slight influence on the mold exit dimensions (extruder to be more precise), the expansion of the metal is not easy to control but the differences are rarely higher than a few 1/10ths of a mm and don't question the functionality of the mast/top plate assembly and even less the one of the foil, a good tightening, in most cases, is the solution to fix the problem.
The straight assembly (as opposed to a conical assembly) requires clearance, and in use as in during manufacture, the ambient temperature on your spot can also play tricks by expanding the materials. A foil that assembles perfectly in La Baule may require a little more effort 2 days later by 40 ° C in the shade in Costa Rica (true fact, experienced it). We must, therefore, take all these factors into account to leave a little "margin".
This concerns the entire market of foils made with aluminium.
In short, if the clearance you see remains excessive and harms the position of the entire set, even after a good tightening, a thin layer of tape can resolve the problem like in this video.
If, by strongly tightening the assembly it doesn't move, then enjoy your flights!
Thanks.
