Surf Foil Technos

Inflatable Techno

The carbon plate, which is a real revolution by GONG, makes all the difference. It is solidly glued under the inflatable structure. This part, made of 1.9kg of pure prepreg carbon and two foam stringers, is a jewel of composite know-how. By its design, it brings precisely what is needed in terms of mechanics to be as rigid as a classic board, without increasing the total weight.

In foil surfing, small sizes are perfect, especially the smallest. It’s hard to tell the difference with a rigid board, except on very sharp sensations. But for flying, cool carving, pumping and connecting a whole series, it’s great! Strapless only on the other hand.

In wake foil, the HIPE is just great. It’s clearly the perfect board because it’s really easy to ride, never hurting the boat or the passengers. And it’s hard to find faults with it on the water as it’s so close to a rigid board, with the advantages of the inflatable (especially in the falls). Inflated in 1 minute, the 4’8 is essential for wakeboarding.

FSP 2X Technology

These boards are equipped with an innovative technology called FSP 2X for the best weight / strength / performance compromise on the market.
The contribution of a biaxial fiber strengthens the board enormously and the PVC forms a hydrophobic shell of 3mm on the whole board. This PVC sandwich offers the best dynamism while preserving the solidity, at an incredible weight.
By designing a new finishing technique, as close as possible to our prototypes made in our French factory, we managed to save weight. We work with tinted resins to avoid painting the board unnecessarily. Dyed in the mass, your board gains in nobility and durability.

  • 3D shape on modeling software.
  • Preshape by numerical control for total reliability.
  • Shape control by traditional templates, finishing off the last mm 100% by hand.
  • Epoxy resin and EPS foam blank: solid and lightweight.
  • Deck, hull, and rails in vacuumed PVC sandwich: incomparable solidity and incredible dynamism.
  • Deck: full PVC/fiberglass sandwich composed of a high-density PVC foam core and 2 layers of 4oz fiberglass and 1 layer of 6oz biaxial fiberglass, fiberglass reinforcements on the sensitive areas.
  • Hull: full PVC/fiberglass sandwich composed of a high-density PVC foam core and 2 layers of 4oz fiberglass and 1 layer of 6oz biaxial fiberglass, fiberglass reinforcements on the sensitive areas.
  • Specific foil reinforcements: the two US rails are fitted in a high density PVC block. Three layers of carbon cover these boxes. Laminated PVC slats connect the reinforcements to the deck for added durability.
  • Rails: the PVC sandwich structure completely covers the rails: increased structural strength, very good impact resistance.
  • Resin tinted hot coat : nobility of the process, weight saving and solidity of the finish.
  • Hand-made matt “custom finish” for weight saving and a better glide.

These boards are equipped with our innovative and high-end technology called FSP 2X for the best weight / strength / performance compromise on the market. It’s quite simply the ultimate in custom vacuum fiberglass techno, as standard.

The shape is cut with a numerical control (CNC) from a high-end and lightweight EPS foam blank.

We glue in vacuum on the entire board, at a pressure of several tons, a fiberglass and high density PVC foam (called Airex) which forms a hydrophobic shell of 3mm that’s super strong and rigid.

Then we apply a biaxial fiberglass which completely covers the sandwich of the board. This super strong mesh acts as a protective grid with its large strands of fiber. It boosts performance by taking over the flex tensions and reinforcing the board for increased durability. This biaxial layer is covered by a classic fiberglass for a nice finish.

These outer layers are also placed in vacuum. This modern process densifies the composite and leaves it only the exact dose of useful resin. The rest is absorbed by a blotting cloth to make your board as light as possible.

Then come the finishing coats with a first hot coat in epoxy resin, super resistant to impact. Then a polyester hot coat which will equalize the micro variations of the surface (less than a millimeter).

And finally the decoration which is as light as possible, therefore with transparency effects which reveal the construction for the greatest pleasure of the eyes. We don’t like painting because it puts on a lot of weight and it’s fragile. We prefer noble materials directly accessible under your eyes and sublimated by some stylish decorative elements.

Our technology is truly the pinnacle of board building. Durable, efficient, repairable, the brands capable of offering a total PVC sandwich in large series for surf foiling boards can be counted on the fingers of one hand and GONG is the leading one!

At GONG our boards are the highest quality. Our low prices may come as a surprise, but they can only be explained by our direct sales model which eliminates margins.

Finally if by bad luck you damage your board, it will be easily repairable because it was well built. We stock components for your preferred repairer and publish dozens of tutorials to help you maintain your equipment throughout its life.

EPS Technology

The new technology in vogue is EPS (expanded polystyrene). Known and used for decades in other sports, it is finally making its way into the surfing world. Overall it is like PU but lighter and more lively. It can therefore be reinforced more than a PU with the same weight. And this is a real plus. The board is dynamic because the epoxy resin is more lively than polyester. Lighter and stronger, so a great technology that remains pretty with its material effects and the transparent bread under the fiber.
Monolithic EPS is light, dynamic with a lot of response, and strong. On the other hand, the repairs are longer (24/48h) and the bread drinks water if the stratum took a shock. Its price is accessible.

EPS is the lightest construction. The inertia is reduced to its maximum, to optimize the control in flight. The EPS version is not made to jump, and therefore does not have a footstrap insert.

  • 3D shape on modeling software.
  • Preshape by numerical control for total reliability.
  • Shape control by traditional templates, finishing off the last mm 100% by hand.
  • Epoxy resin and EPS foam blank: solid and lightweight.
  • Epoxy / fiberglass lamination on polystyrene foam blank 28kg / m³ with 3 stringers (central wood stringer and 2 lateral 3mm).
  • Deck detail: 2 layers of 6oz fiberglass
  • Hull detail: 1 layer of 6oz fiberglass, with 5 6oz fiberglass reinforcement patches and 1 6oz carbon patch around the
  • US rails to avoid breakage in front of the foil attachment during stalls.
  • PVC reinforcement 70kg / m3 with a thickness of 3.5 cm integrating the 2 US rails.
  • Resin tinted hot coat : nobility of the process, weight saving and solidity of the finish.
  • Hand-made matt “custom finish” for weight saving and a better glide.
  • This technology is easily repairable as new in the event of dings or accidents, and has an excellent lightness / nervousness ratio highlighting all the technical qualities of the shape.
  • It is THE modern technology currently popular with the most technical foilers looking for lightness and responsiveness.
  • These boards are 100% shaped and glassed in China in the most experienced factory in the manufacture of surfboards.

These boards are built with our very reinforced EPS GONG technology to meet the specific constraints of the foil: 3 stringers, more layers and foil box reinforcements +++

The EPS combines lightness and liveliness to allow the shape to express itself 100%. This modern technology is popular with the most technical foilers looking for strapless responsiveness.

The shape is cut with a numerical control (CNC) from a high-end and lightweight EPS foam blank. This guarantees great precision in the shape since the robot will shape the board until leaving only one millimeter of manual finishing.

Two fiberglass layers of an important basis weight are epoxy coated on the deck and one on the hull. There are therefore three layers of 6oz on the rails with the overlap. It’s super strong and very stiff.

The foam blank’s surface is first smeared with a mix of glass micro spheres and epoxy resin to prepare the adhesion of the layers and limit the absorption of resin during lamination. The gluing is perfect for maximum durability and the foam blank is smoother and white to the eye under the stratum; looks wonderful.

The boxes are integrated in a large reinforcement of high density PVC foam. The foam blank is hollowed out to glue the reinforcement with epoxy resin and fiberglass. The whole is hydrophobic. This laying base rests on the central stringer which fits to the shape of the reinforcement. The two outer stringers laterally consolidate the reinforcement block on which it leans. The whole is incredibly solid (light years away from low-end tech with the boxes glued directly in the foam blank).

The area of the foil box, subjected to very significant forces, is reinforced with 5 layers of fiberglass and a layer of carbon fiber in addition to the hull layers to guarantee flawless strength. This stepped reinforcement diffuses flexion in high stress to prevent breakage. A superb piece of work.

Then come the finishing coats with a first hot coat in epoxy resin, super strong to shocks, which seals the board. Then a polyester hot coat which will equalize the micro variations of the surface (less than a millimeter) for a perfect finish.
