Program

The Max is the ultimate bar controlled freestyle wing.

Presentation

The flaka is where it all started, the first big maneuver. From there, we have seen a long list of new maneuvers. For this, we created a light and responsive wing for maximum recoverability and called it the Max.

The compact frame is the first thing you notice followed by a direct balanced feeling between the back and front hand.  Once you are up you immediately feel the playful but stable profile driving you forward. Gradually speeding you forward looking for the first opportunity of lift. Even a novice will want to start searching for his first launch.

The Progression Bar provides the ultimate platform of control. During the transition the ease of the bar lets you control the air foil with lightness and precision. No need to find or look for handles, just concentrate on the manoeuvre.

The Max offers big power and lift in the upper wind range of each size, which is still manageable due to the stiff stable frame and fine-tuned canopy tension.  The counter is also true in light wind, when you just want to get going.  The compact shape and stiff frame gives you the necessary bottom end grunt to get going with a relatively small front wing.

Doing most of our R&D in Cape Town, we made sure the wing excels in the waves too.  Meaning it is a versatile wing for flatwater riders who want to venture into the waves to do a downwinder or simply cruz.  The power of the wing is considerable, allowing one to ride a relatively small wing and push the boundaries.

 

Shape

At first glance, the Max can be defined as having a clear rectangular outline with a low aspect ratio. The aspect ratio is adjusted for each wing size. This means that the smaller wings have a higher aspect ratio than the big ones.

The shaped rectangular outline is a natural consequence of the lower aspect ratio, which forces the design to draw the leading edge back and straighten out the first part of the leading edge.  This naturally would result in very square corners, close to a “door shape”. We learnt through our R&D that we need to increase the radius of the corner and gradually transition from leading edge to wingtip.  The result was a very stiff frame, which you feel when pushing the wing to its MAX when jumping and in high wind. The rigid frame does not only aid the performance but also improves the better arm and shoulder positions, for a more comfortable ride and less fatigue.

The wingtip finishes at around 80% of the center chord length. The trailing edge has a clear negative scallop. The negative scallop keeps the trailing edge clean and only has a small claw development in the under high load. This “trailing edge claw” can be clearly observed on America Cup boat sails especially during high load time when getting on to a foil.  The claw will disappear once riding or when the wing has less load. This movement makes the air foil active and dynamic.

During our R&D phase, we found that the opening or closing dihedral angles play a very big role in wing design. The MAX is the wing in our range with the lowest dihedral angle. This gives the wing a general power with a relatively wide leading edge in the center of the wing. The leading edge in the center allowed us to compromise on the canopy profile depth and improve overall canopy tension. Canopy tension is key especially on the entry of the profile. There is a marginal slack in the back quarter of the wing when in a neutral position. The slack tightens out once the wing is loaded.

All of the above measures are supported by our “patent pending” Control Flex Tech (CFT). CFT is a Leading edge internal load frame.  Edumax is 11 times stronger than steal at only 6 g/m2  making it function like a leave spring in this application. This process reduces the demand of multiple layers of Dacron in the leading edge , saving weight.

With the aid of the CFT, we have added an additional method to our design arsenal. When developing the 2022 range we have reduced the amount of panels and unnecessary reinforcements.

All wings are designed individually and are not scaled from large to small. We pay specific attention to the different riding conditions in terms of wind and water conditions and the specific condition demands of those conditions. Throughout the last 12 months, we have observed the trend of smaller hydrofoils. This results in faster riding but also better carving and jumping. This has got an influence on how wings are designed and how the profiles morph while under load and/or pumping.

Equipment

We use a light, two piece carbon bar which allows for one bar to be used on all wing sizes. Providing the perfect control platform.

Soft battens supported by the trailing edge and inserted Ultra PE yarn load line reduce wear and tear on the trailing edge and reduce the demand for battens.

Inflation: We made use of two separate chambers, one for the leading edge and one for the strut.  The strut always needs to be inflated to 8PSI.  Whereas the leading edge can be inflated to 8 PSI or 7,5 PSI. 8 PSI if you are above 80kg and 7,5 PSI if you are below 80kg.

In our facility we can specify all steps and details specifically to wings, after all, we are building wings not kites. This method of work is specifically critical when developing a new sport like wing surfing. Sewing machine operators can share their long know-how with a designer in a matter of minutes. This is one critical point that allows crucial innovation and progress. All wings are manufactured with high tenacity polyester rip stop utilizing the highest quality tenacity polyester yarns.

All seams are reinforced.  In critical segments, we make use of additional composite reinforced tapes and bindings. This process ankers the seams and supports the yarn for long lasting durability. These composite reinforcement tapes are unique to our construction and  are specifically developed for the manufacturing of wings and these load demand specifically to wings.  We also make use of electronic controlled sewing machines. All these steps are taken to produce the best possible wing for long lasting water time.

Shipping

Availability:

The dates of availability of all our products are written on each product page, in the size and colour of the product concerned.

These dates are valid at the moment you consult the site and/or place an order. It is possible that this product may be ordered a few seconds after your consultation. It then becomes unavailable. If you have placed an order, this change does not concern you: the product you order is still available on the date indicated at the time of your order.

We sell several thousand products per week. The stocks are therefore very evolutionary. But our management always shows you the real availability live.

Pre-order:

Some articles are proposed in pre-order during their routing to our premises. You can buy this article which will arrive at our place in a few weeks. This method avoids the fair to grab upon receipt of the lot and the disappointed ones who would not order within the hour.

Upon receipt, we will ship it to you as a regular order.

The times indicated on the pre-orders are 95% reliable. First of all, because we only pre-sell finished products that are arriving to us after Customs, and therefore shipped right after. And also, because we add decent margins with concern to the dates announced by the shipping companies or railways.

However, a Worker Strike, a breakdown, an overbooking, can unfortunately happen. In the case of a delay, you will be notified by email (check your spam). It is generally less than a week and totally independent of our good will.

As soon as we receive the container in La Baule, we ship your order within three working days. Then the carrier takes over: delivery time and tracking numbers are under their responsibility.

It is possible that the date displayed on the online for the pre-order of the item you have ordered and paid for may change for two reasons:

  1. All quantities of the batch are sold (most common reason). In this case, orders placed for the first container will be delivered as scheduled.
  2. The container is late and we have to shift the date by a few days. (Strikes, breakdowns, overbooking, can unfortunately happen). You will be notified by email.

We never change the delivery dates of a container without notifying customers.

 

Delays:

The dates that we announce are shipping deadlines, which GONG has in stock and available here physically.

We usually give a shipping time within 3 days, but in most cases, we ship within 24/48 hours. Normally morning orders leave in the afternoon for example.

Then the transport service takes over. The variables are then important between the customer being delivered to France (very fast) or Bulgaria (a good week) or to a forwarding agent or to Asia or the USA… You understand that each location has its own type of delay.

We work with serious and well-known carriers. They do their utmost to make you happy even if a snafu can happen. In any case, we are there to make things easier and to arrange our customers.

 

Shipping Fees: 

Contrary to others, we do not hide shipping costs in the price of our products. At GONG everyone knows exactly what he pays. The transport is charged at its strictest value, and the person who comes to pick up his products does not pay hidden transport fees.

Shipping costs are calculated according to the weight and volume of each package, and your delivery address. To this is added a labour time of order preparation.

The invoicing of the shipping costs is identical in continental France and in the bordering European countries. A surcharge is automatically invoiced for deliveries to the most distant European countries and all European islands.

For a shipment in French overseas departments and territories or outside Europe, our logistics department will contact you before the payment stage to give you an estimate of the shipping costs. You will be able to accept this estimate and pay your order, or refuse it and cancel your order.

Preserving the environment is a top priority. That’s why we are doing everything possible to reduce our environmental footprint.

The first thing is to sell quality products that will last, be repairable and will please you for a long time.

The second thing is to sell for less. Most of the pollution coming from a Board is in its use (the km driven to use it) and in the countless environmental damages you have to do to pay for it. Each euro spent is a sum of damage related to your life quite simply: eating, working hard etc… By reducing the price of our products, we significantly reduce your ecological footprint on this item.

For our shipments we use:

  • Flexi-Hex: ecological packaging of very high resistance.
  • Paper Craft Scotch Tape.
  • Final packaging made of high-end cardboard.

All this for:

  • Reusable and recyclable packaging.
  • An almost total reduction of single-use plastic.
  • Maximum protection and impact resistance thanks to the innovative design of Flexi-Hex honeycomb (35mm thick).

 

Tracking of your parcels :

The tracking of deliveries is directly ensured by the carriers to whom we have entrusted your parcels. They will contact you by email or SMS to allow you to choose the delivery methods and to follow the route of your package.

If you ask us for this tracking, we will have to do as you do: we will go see on the carrier’s app because they are the ones who manage and are responsible for this job.

 

Delivery:

We collaborate with the best transport providers to deliver you everywhere in Europe and in the world in very short delays.

We have chosen them for their quality of service and their respect of deadlines. 80% of your orders reach their destination in less than 48 hours of processing in metropolitan and continental France.

For Europe, the delays vary from 3 to 6 days depending on the country of destination.

For the rest of the world, delays can be up to 15 days.

Please note that the transport time is added to the preparation/shipping time. Two companies work on your order (GONG and the carrier). Each one controls its activity and commits itself to optimize its delays so that you are delivered as soon as possible, in good condition and at a reasonable price.

 

Reception of your Board:

Upon delivery, simply open and inspect the condition of your Board in the presence of the carrier. A complete email explaining the procedure to follow will be sent to you when your order is shipped.

In spite of our requirements and all the care we take in packaging and protecting your Board, transportation hazards may occur. Even if it concerns less than 2% of everything we ship around the world, a Board can suffer a more or less important transportation shock.

But in any case, don’t worry, just refuse it, and a new Board will be shipped back to you.

 

Returns:

You can choose to return your products if:

  • You are not satisfied (14 days right of retraction).
  • You want to change an item.
  • You have refused your package.

Warning

You must read the detailed user manual completely before using your wing for the first time.

Be sure to have a full understanding of it. Wings can be dangerous depending on their size and the strength of the wind. You have to check the wind range of your wing so that it corresponds with conditions and your actual skill level.

For the first few sessions, never use your new wing in its high wind range. Use your wing in a secure environment. Take the necessary time to learn how to handle the equipment under optimum safety conditions. Never underestimate the traction power of your wing. Even a beginner’s wing can develop a pulling force of several hundred kilos depending on its size and the strength of the wind. Do not overestimate your abilities. Misuse can cause serious injury or death to the practitioner or others. Do not use your wing at sea in offshore winds. Use your wing equipped with a leash. Be careful to avoid any collision. Be extremely careful if you sail with your wing and a board equipped with a foil. The manufacturer declines all responsibility for damage or damage caused by improper use of the wing or carelessness of the user.
