Introduction

The practice of high-level wing evolves very quickly and so does your needs. We wanted a super rigid wing, with a very stable hollow, while maintaining total depower to keep versatility.

The Pulse V2 presents a generation of profiles capable of developing performance comparable to kite and windsurf. It is totally stable so you can evolve at high speed, optimize the upwind tacks and have all the necessary firmness in the relaunch.

In the jumps, the gain is crazy. Because yes, you can perfectly excel in both speed and jumps. We arrive full throttle, it climbs and we glide for a long time.

The evolution of this V2 is mainly about dynamism. The rotations and the piloting of the wing in a straight line as in the maneuvers are even more lively. Lightness and dynamism boost the potential of the Pulse V2, even in transitions. The acceleration capacity is further upgraded for high level freeride speed runs.

With its two ideally placed windows, you tackle jibes with confidence. Windows are not useful when sailing because you look straight ahead, not leeward. But taking a look without having to raise your wing before jibing is a plus for attacking hard.

In hand, the Pulse V2 is a blade. We have a feeling of nervousness, responsiveness, absolutely brilliant. The high range is certainly more physical, but nothing prevents you from using a harness. And the behavior of the Pulse V2 is flawless. Exemplary stability.

Shape

Its shape takes over the key points of the Pulse 2021; almost 90 ° tips, a slender architecture and the virtual absence of negative in the trailing edge circle to reduce the wingspan, and keep the tips away from the water. It’s a wing that’s easy to pump and less tricky in flight.

Its hollow is moderate. With the Pulse V2 we are aiming for the top speed and therefore a certain finesse! But its hyper nervous architecture makes it take off in three pumping strokes. The Wing Pulse V2 offers a huge high range but feels very light.

Seen from the front, the accentuation of the dihedral on the Pulse V2 energizes the profile of the wing, increases its handling and refines the handling.

Our engineers have added more tension to the V2, especially on the trailing edge, so that this preset constraint that appears when inflated absorbs the deformations on the water and maintains the shape in all situations. Thus the Pulse V2 develops more traction in low range and upwind. The de-segmentation of the leading edge in its central portion is a key to this shape. The hollow faces a long, seamless section on the leading edge which makes the Pulse V2 super rigid: ideal in gusts, upwind and in jumps as it doesn’t bend. Equipments

  • The handles of the V2 are thin and rigid. The gain in comfort is sensational and is noticeable from the get go. The piloting is even more precise. The V2 is built with 3 handles on the central strut and one on the leading edge.
  • The windows considerably reduce the risk of collision. For us this is fundamental. At the beginning you will surely be too busy trying to control everything and not using them, but very soon it will be the safety ally of your jibes. And our window PVC is super strong, no stress.
  • Always two fiber battens on the Pulse V2, but in 2021 you insert them by the trailing edge like on a classic sail. The performance gain with the battens is clear in the high range. But you can remove them in the low range.
  • The new inflation / deflation valves are used directly with the end of the hose. No more incompatible or lost nozzles !
  • The large inflation/deflation valve on the leading edge is doubled on the central strut for immediate deflation and storage. Still in one pump mode, you inflate through the leading edge in seconds. Then open the two large valves to deflate everything instantly.
  • 3 harness fixing points are placed on the central strut of the V2 wings (1 single point on the front and 2 positions to choose from on the rear). Everyone will find their balance for endless sessions with a performant and powerful wing.

Techno Wings V2

The Dacron DP175LL is a very solid and very rigid polyester fabric, here in a weight that remains light.

The panels are cut using a numerical control. Accuracy is essential to guarantee you a shape that is 100% compliant with our 3D design.

The structure of our wings consists of a leading edge and a central strut in Dacron DP175LL which form a rigid skeleton when the internal bladders in 100 micron TPU are inflated.

The assembly of the panels is achieved by a succession of some very complex seams. Indeed, if the flat seams in the canopy remain simple, certain assemblies such as the batten for example must be sewn with specific techniques to withstand the constraints of this new sport.

 

 

GONG’s experience as a pioneer in the sport with a Team of the highest level, combined with the know-how gained over decades in our production plants, guarantee you an end product that is resistant, light and perfectly in line with our design and our expectations.

The rigidity of the structure is ensured by inflatable tubes in the leading edge and in the central batten. Our “bladders” are made of thick TPU 100 microns thick for more resistance where our competitors use 50 or 80 microns. The tubes themselves and all the accessories are heat-sealed to withstand significant pressures.

 

 

To reinforce the rigidity of the structure, we add a doubling of Dacron DP175LL on the 2 central panels of the leading edge and we reduce the length of the segments of the eccentric panels of the leading edge to thus reinforce the rigidity of the arc of the wing.

Our expectations are clear: a very rigid, resistant and light structure.

 

We dress the structure of the wing with a 50g/m2 spinnaker canvas, so very light, but weaved in triple ripstop to stiffen and strengthen it. The triple ripstop will stop the tears, preventing them from spreading any further. But it will also lock the deformations of the fabric to guarantee the stability of the shape when sailing.

This fabric is coated with a protective layer that forms a near impermeable barrier to the air and protects it from the sun and humidity so that it lasts as long as possible. This surface treatment also has a water-repellent effect to repel water on the spinnaker instantly and lighten the Wing when sailing.

The canopy is an assembly of spinnaker panels that define the profile of the wing with cutouts precisely defined in design on the 3D software SurfPlan. Our huge laser cutting board allows for precision with a rapid turnover.

 

The shape evolves considerably from one model to another depending on the wing program: ease of use, range of use, nervousness, reactivity, performance… And it is our R&D center made up of engineers, 3D-designers, our shaper and GONG Team who are responsible for developing the best solutions for your uses.

The need for visibility, especially for safety, leads us to implement two large PVC windows that are very strong, especially against cold and bends. These two panels fit perfectly into the profile of the wing.

Wing foiling is an extreme sport. The equipment has to cope with harsh conditions and this requires the integration of reinforcements.

  • The seams subject to these heavy loads have been reinforced by the addition of a strap in the seam, collages, specific stitches, multiple thicknesses, etc.
  • The tips of the leading edge and the batten are lined with a thick and robust Nylon layer.
  • The trailing edge is reinforced with a dacron lining which protects against flapping and cuts from the foil.

 

 

A wing is also made of many essential accessories:

The large rapid inflation/deflation valve on the leading edge which is doubled on the strut for immediate deflation and compact storage. Always in one pump, it’s inflated by the leading edge in a few seconds.

 

 

The number of handles is optimal. There are four handles arranged on the structure of the wing: a downwind handle on the leading edge for surfing sessions and launching plus three handles on the central strut to pilot the wing.

The position of the handles is precisely defined according to the model and according to the size of each wing. We study each wing to determine the perfect position for your hands.

The three steering handles are sewn onto the central strut with reinforcement straps that go all the way around to prevent the batten fabric from taking on all the load.

Our handles consist of a rigid PVC body and comfortable EVA foam. They are wrapped in a very resistant and non-abrasive Nylon strap. The rigidity of the whole piece thus provides direct and precise control of the wing in all circumstances, protects your board from shocks, and can be stored in one minute.

 

 

The leash attachment on the leading edge is even more reinforced than the bridle anchors on a kite. It’s super strong and it’s essential because a break there would cause the wing to explode.

 

To make the sessions last while saving your back, we have placed three nylon harness loops on the central strut to mount a harness line (sold separately). These very light nylon loops are discreetly integrated into the base of the handles. Long sessions and one-handed tricks are yours!

Buying guide

For whom?

As part of a Freeride / Freerace program, it can enter your quiver very early because it is the least technical sailing format when compared to freestyle and wave riding.

It is not particularly technical to use. All the levels starting from the intermediate wingsurfer will be happy with it.

For what?

It’s the fastest wing in the world: what more can we say!

You like long tacks, being full speed, heading upwind, strolling, flying in the air, surfing from time to time. It can do it all wonderfully.

What size?

  • The 3m² is dedicated to strong wind (35 knots), and/or ideal for land (skate).
  • The 4m² is top from 20 to 35 knots. Ultra maneuverable, a must.
  • The 5m² is great from 15nds to 25nds. It’s the key size that is used all the time.
  • The 6m² is great from 15nds to 25nds. This is the key size for heavier people.
  • The 7m² is great from 10kt to 18kt. The constant power is delectable in the light.

Don’t overestimate the power of wings. The ambient blah blah consists in making you believe that you will have fun with a 4m² in 12nds, even 8nds… It is really just BS that aims to make you crack on a cheaper wing and make you believe that this sport is magic.

The reality is that for a winger of 85kg, you need 20 knots with a 5m² to fly at the beginning. After about 15 sessions, you will fly at 15 knots with a 5m². And if you’re athletic, pumping hard can make you take off at 12 knots in 5m² and hold the flight through 8 knots. All this can be learned and requires practice.

Best quiver choices?

The wing Pulse works with everything. Obviously it will be more in tune with equipment dedicated to performance.

You can (should) add to this combo a SUP for windless days, and surely a board dedicated to surfing. But if you’re heading towards wing foiling, you may already have these toys in the garage ?

Which Leash?

Take a 5′5 to 8′ Wing Leash in light wind and a 10′ Leash in strong wind. Preferably a model dedicated to the wing and of telephone type. A short leash allows you to resume the wing quickly.

A long leash protects the wing from the foil falling into the canvas by letting it go further.

Check its condition before each session and change it every year. This is your lifejacket.

Don’t let your wing flap in the wind at the end of the Leash, it is not unbreakable! Also in waves, do not hold your Wing by the Leash, it will explode or you will hurt yourself.

Harness or harness free?

Riding without a harness is sexy because it makes you feel free and it’s stylish. You can move in all directions, it’s really nice.

On the other hand, you have to use smaller wing sizes in order to keep up for a full session. You would have to pump often to take off.

All our wings 2021 have harness line fixing points. So, you have the choice.

So, if on the other hand you like to ride with more power, the use of a harness is almost mandatory if you don’t want to do sessions limited to one hour. In this case, the installation of a harness line is super simple (see our tutorials on the forum). We advise you to use a harness that is as comfy and as light as possible, with a windsurfing type hook.

Lines of 24 to 28cm of distance between the central strut and your harness hook will be perfect. Use a small diameter rope and a thin sheath because such a rope is heavy and rigid, and therefore dangerous in tacks and other tricks.

So, it’s up to you to see if sensation and aesthetics prevail over performance. But it is a safe bet that soon all riders will have harnesses because the evolution will go towards more powerful wings and more performance.

Boom or handles?

We have tried everything, in every conceivable combination. A boom is great but is not at all suitable for a beginner public who needs a light wing.

With a boom, he’ll hit the board and damage it, or damage his shoulders. And it’s as hard to transport as it is to install.

In 2021 we reduced the number of handles to a minimum and saved almost a kilogram per wing.

The choice is therefore four ideally placed handles :

  • One for handling and surfing on the leading edge.
  • One front handle on the central strut.
  • A space to put a harness line between the front and rear handles.
  • A rear handle for low power and tricks on the central strut.
  • A second rear handle for full power on the central strut.

Windows or only canopy?

Wings without windows are cheaper, 200 grams lighter and easier to store.

Wings with windows are safer, stiffer and more responsive.

For beginners, a wing with windows is a must because safety comes before the few grams you could gain. The point is not to admire the landscape: windows will allow you to see if there’s someone or something on the other side of your wing when jibing and therefore prevent a potential collision.

With or without battens?

In light wind, light wings are more pleasant. So it’s without fiber battens that you can use your Wing Pulse 2021. But as soon as the wind picks up or you speed up, the full battens of the Pulse are a real plus. Two in one ?

  • If we sold this Wing in a surfshop, it would cost 759€ (taking into account traditional margins that we should offer to distributers and stores).

 

Shipping

Availability:

The dates of availability of all our products are written on each product page, in the size and colour of the product concerned.

These dates are valid at the moment you consult the site and/or place an order. It is possible that this product may be ordered a few seconds after your consultation. It then becomes unavailable. If you have placed an order, this change does not concern you: the product you order is still available on the date indicated at the time of your order.

We sell several thousand products per week. The stocks are therefore very evolutionary. But our management always shows you the real availability live.

Pre-order:

Some articles are proposed in pre-order during their routing to our premises. You can buy this article which will arrive at our place in a few weeks. This method avoids the fair to grab upon receipt of the lot and the disappointed ones who would not order within the hour.

Upon receipt, we will ship it to you as a regular order.

The times indicated on the pre-orders are 95% reliable. First of all, because we only pre-sell finished products that are arriving to us after Customs, and therefore shipped right after. And also, because we add decent margins with concern to the dates announced by the shipping companies or railways.

However, a Worker Strike, a breakdown, an overbooking, can unfortunately happen. In the case of a delay, you will be notified by email (check your spam). It is generally less than a week and totally independent of our good will.

As soon as we receive the container in La Baule, we ship your order within three working days. Then the carrier takes over: delivery time and tracking numbers are under their responsibility.

It is possible that the date displayed on the online for the pre-order of the item you have ordered and paid for may change for two reasons:

  1. All quantities of the batch are sold (most common reason). In this case, orders placed for the first container will be delivered as scheduled.
  2. The container is late and we have to shift the date by a few days. (Strikes, breakdowns, overbooking, can unfortunately happen). You will be notified by email.

We never change the delivery dates of a container without notifying customers.

 

Delays:

The dates that we announce are shipping deadlines, which GONG has in stock and available here physically.

We usually give a shipping time within 3 days, but in most cases, we ship within 24/48 hours. Normally morning orders leave in the afternoon for example.

Then the transport service takes over. The variables are then important between the customer being delivered to France (very fast) or Bulgaria (a good week) or to a forwarding agent or to Asia or the USA… You understand that each location has its own type of delay.

We work with serious and well-known carriers. They do their utmost to make you happy even if a snafu can happen. In any case, we are there to make things easier and to arrange our customers.

 

Shipping Fees: 

Contrary to others, we do not hide shipping costs in the price of our products. At GONG everyone knows exactly what he pays. The transport is charged at its strictest value, and the person who comes to pick up his products does not pay hidden transport fees.

Shipping costs are calculated according to the weight and volume of each package, and your delivery address. To this is added a labour time of order preparation.

The invoicing of the shipping costs is identical in continental France and in the bordering European countries. A surcharge is automatically invoiced for deliveries to the most distant European countries and all European islands.

For a shipment in French overseas departments and territories or outside Europe, our logistics department will contact you before the payment stage to give you an estimate of the shipping costs. You will be able to accept this estimate and pay your order, or refuse it and cancel your order.

Tracking of your parcels :

If you ask us for this tracking, we will have to do as you do: we will go see on the carrier’s app because they are the ones who manage and are responsible for this job.

 

Delivery:

We collaborate with the best transport providers to deliver you everywhere in Europe and in the world in very short delays.

We have chosen them for their quality of service and their respect of deadlines. 80% of your orders reach their destination in less than 48 hours of processing in metropolitan and continental France.

For Europe, the delays vary from 3 to 6 days depending on the country of destination.

For the rest of the world, delays can be up to 15 days.

Please note that the transport time is added to the preparation/shipping time. Two companies work on your order (GONG and the carrier). Each one controls its activity and commits itself to optimize its delays so that you are delivered as soon as possible, in good condition and at a reasonable price.

 

Reception of your Board:

Upon delivery, simply open and inspect the condition of your Board in the presence of the carrier. A complete email explaining the procedure to follow will be sent to you when your order is shipped.

In spite of our requirements and all the care we take in packaging and protecting your Board, transportation hazards may occur. Even if it concerns less than 2% of everything we ship around the world, a Board can suffer a more or less important transportation shock.

But in any case, don’t worry, just refuse it, and a new Board will be shipped back to you.

    Premier test de ma pulse V2 6m.
    Après avoir débuté sur la osprey 5.2 je suis carrément plus convaincu de la pulse ! Rien à voir, sans vouloir critiquer ou dévaloriser la ullman mais la gong est nettement au dessus rien que sur la finition. L’épaisseur du bord d’attaque, les poignées hyper agréables, la rigidité de l’aile est dingue les lattes entières doivent y faire pour beaucoup aussi. Cette wing inspire tellement confiance en qualité c’est dingue ! Quel regret de ne pas avoir eu le choix lors de la commande de mon pack l’année dernière mais c’est comme ça.
    Par rapport à la ullman la puissance est nettement supérieure (oui la wing est plus grande 6m contre 5,2) mais sans pour autant être dépassé ! Avec mes petits 67kg le vent oscillait entre 10 et 22 noeuds et j’arrivai facilement à stopper la puissance lors des grosses claques tout en avançant.
    Seule chose que j’ai dû apprendre c’est d’élever la voile un peu plus haut par rapport à avant. L’envergure est plus grande mais une fois en l’air que du bonheur.
    Seul point « négatif » est d’avoir à installer et retirer les lattes pour ranger la wing mais si on veut de la rigidité c’est le prix à payer ?

    Je vous partage mon feedback sur la Pulse V2.
    Au premier gonflage, l’aile est vraiment belle avec son shape évolué et la nouvelle tension de la canopy, c’est vraiment beau.
    Une fois en main, on comprend tout de suite le programme, de la puissance et de la finesse de pilotage avec de l’équilibre main avant / main arrière et de la précision en gérant son accélération avec la main arrière tout en tenu et en stabilité. On sent qu’on est cranté dans l’air pour bombarder.
    Au pumping, c’est tout simplement l’aile la plus efficace par rapport à mon style de ride. J’apprécie ce gain en finesse de pilotage, elle offre beaucoup de ressenti dans les mains donc on trouve plus rapidement et plus efficacement son angle d’incidence parfait. Sur la V2, on gagne donc encore plus en plage basse sans sacrifier la V max et la plage haute, un régal !
    Dans les manœuvres, l’aile gagne en pivot autour de la main avant, donc les manœuvres sont plus fluides et plus naturelles. Elle a aussi un On / Off plus incisif qui neutralise l’aile à la perfection en surf. Ce On / Off est toutefois plus doux que sur une Neutra V2 ou une Droid V2 en comparaison.
    On peut aussi toujours sauter sans problème, l’aile permet de prendre un maximum de vitesse pour un pop qui emmène loin et haut. La Neutra est celle qui offre le plus de pivot en rotation mais la Pulse ne nous limite pas pour autant. Même si on sent bien que ce n’est pas son programme.
    C’est la seule aile qui conserve des lattes en fibre. On peut rider sans, cela offre de la tolérance et juste ce qu’il faut de souplesse mais pas plus pour avoir un peu plus de confort. Mais l’aile révèle tout son potentiel avec les lattes avec une puissance instantanée et une précision inégalée, pour moi on gagne partout sur toute la plage de vent, de la plage basse à la tenue dans la plage haute.
    J’ai la sensation d’être dans une supercar de sport, ça bombarde !
    Définitivement la meilleure aile de Freeride et Freerace que j’ai jamais pu avoir.

    Elle convient parfaitement à mes attentes freeride/freerace. Elle décolle tôt, chaque rafale se transforme en accélération. Dans le vent fort la wing est très facile, bien stable. Le cap est très bon.

    Ma PULSE V2 décolle tôt, sa stabilité est excellente et elle a une réactivité de fou ! Je n’ai pas encore atteint la Vmax .. à moi de jouer !

Warning

You must read the detailed user manual completely before using your Wing for the first time.

Be sure to have a full understanding of it. Wings can be dangerous depending on their size and the strength of the wind. You have to check the wind range of your wing so that it corresponds with conditions and your actual skill level.

For the first few sessions, never use your new Wing in its high wind range. Use your Wing in a secure environment. Take the necessary time to learn how to handle the equipment under optimum safety conditions. Never underestimate the traction power of your Wing. Even a beginner’s Wing can develop a pulling force of several hundred kilos depending on its size and the strength of the wind. Do not overestimate your abilities. Misuse can cause serious injury or death to the practitioner or others. Do not use your Wing at sea in offshore winds. Use your Wing equipped with a leash. Be careful to avoid any collision. Be extremely careful if you sail with your Wing and a board equipped with a foil. The manufacturer declines all responsibility for damage or damage caused by improper use of the Wing or carelessness of the user.

Dry your wing ?

Unless you end your session with a long ride in the sun and land on a pontoon, it’s rather rare to get out of the water with a completely dry wing. ? Note that there is no need to dry your wing if it is to be used regularly in salt water, as the salt protects the materials from mold.

If, however, for transport or storage reasons you want to dry them, you must absolutely avoid hanging the deflated wing by the handle on the leading edge. It’s however very practical but it is the best way to obtain a hernia on the central strut at the junction with the leading edge following the collapse of the bladder inside. The bladders are movable in the strut and the leading edge. So if you hang it up deflated to dry, the bladder can slip, or even crumple, in the strut sleeve.

So ideally, you dry your inflated wing in the shade, and at worst flat or at least with just the inflated central strut.

How to inflate your wing?

Inflating your wing while it is still rolled can cause movements and twists of the bladder which will have the effect of deforming the inflated wing or causing hernias. It is therefore essential to fully unfold your wing before inflating it using the inflation valve on the leading edge.

Generalities about the Wing

The Wing is a machine with an inflatable structure directly in the rider’s hands. Handgrips are used to control its flight and the power delivered.

The Wing’s number one advantage is the absence of a mast rig. This allows you to switch from a horizontal windsurf-type traction to a vertical kite-type traction. The best of both worlds can be combined in total freedom.

Much less complicated than a kite and much lighter than a windsurfing sail, the Wing lightens you to the zenith and accelerates in front of you.

The Wing combines the advantages and moves of these two sports, and it gives even more with all the possibilities linked to neutrality in surfing, and the rotations under the Wing and other offsets… the potential of moves is endless.

Ideal when combined with a Foil, it is much more reassuring than a kite and much more manoeuvrable than a windsurf sail.

The Wing is by far the simplest support to learn how to Foil, far ahead of all other sports. A great way to learn to Foil afterwards in other sports.

It is the perfect machine:

  • Compact, it fits in a car and is easy to fly.
  • Lightweight, you can ride your Quiver without having a hard time.
  • You can go in the water anywhere, except in the shorebreak.
  • Very little sensitive to the quality of the wind. If it falls we return quietly.
  • A potential in surfing and tricks almost infinite without a mast rig.
  • High performance for a minimum of constraints.
  • The attraction of novelty, it’s good to change sometimes.
  • No major danger.
  • Smile, smile and smile.

With its glide, you don’t have to overcast to have fun. In gusts of wind, its structure naturally absorbs excess power. The pros will be able to put on a harness to size up and boost performance. But amateurs will also find real relief in the harness. Contrary to popular belief, it’s the Wing that carries your arms, not the other way around. But after two hours without a harness, you have to admit that fatigue is there. Everyone is free to hold on with bare hands or to relieve themselves.

Ideal with a Foil, it requires more air than a kite which will always have the advantage of pulling a lot from 4/5 knots. The Wing will require between 10 and 15 knots to express itself on a Foil and will remain super easy even in 35 knots, even 50 knots, where the kite often rhymes with big risks.

It is great with a pure Wing Board, but also with multiple supports such as :

  • SUPfoil
  • Surfoil
  • Stand Up Paddle “SUP” (rigid or inflatable)
  • Skate
  • Rollerblade
  • Mountain board
  • Anything that slides on snow
  • Etc.

The advantages of the Wing are clearly identified: simplicity, compactness and lightness provide unequalled freedom of movement and ease of use. The Wing is ready to fly in 1min chrono: no line to unroll, just two flexible slats to insert in their sheath, a few strokes and off you go.

The technology used to make the Wings is very similar to that of our kitesurfing wings, but much stronger. Multiple reinforcements are present on the stress zones according to the different uses.

The shape of the Wing is “self-stabilizing”. Don’t imagine orienting it by the force of your wrists like on a boom: it doesn’t work like that. You put your back hand down: the Wing will lay flat above your head. You put it up and the Wing goes vertical. Easy! This is called umbrella or screen piloting. It is often said that the beginnings of the Wing are more like pole dancing than windsurfing. Indeed, you almost have to have the back hand vertically under the front hand when you are not flying, to keep the Wing as an umbrella. This way you keep it away from the water, and you use its traction with the same angle as a kite to lighten up. So, think pole dance ;-))))))
