With its very short shape and comfortable nose, the Mint is extremely versatile.
It could be placed halfway between a Flint that rocks in the light wind and a Lemon that kills in wave riding. But the Mint is much more than that: it’s the meeting of performance and ease. Everything is easy on the Mint.
Its round nose makes it the perfect compromise between a board that has a lot of lift and a radical board. You get just the right amount of comfort to feel at ease. The round nose reduces inertia and wind resistance. The Mint is therefore very lively. And needless to say that a board of less than 5′ is necessarily very reactive!!!
Its wide tail allows you to take off immediately. Coupled with the double concave under the nose which guides the board, it is a light wing machine. And with a slightly narrower main beam, the friction with the water is limited which facilitates take offs even more.
The secret resides in its tail: it releases water without restraint. Directly inspired by the Lethal’s magic tail, the Mint takes off 2 knots earlier. It is a considerable difference as you will no longer require such a big wing or wear yourself out pumping. The board is also stabler and pops harder.
This combination of reactivity and ease of use is ideal for freestyle. The Mint will be much more radical than a Flint, but without being as extreme as a Kube or a Lemon. Moves don’t need to be perfectly executed for a smooth landing. The Mint absorbs many of your mistakes.
In waves, it’s the board which will do everything chill, but with a lot of dynamism if you require it. This small board offers no inertia in surf: you are directly in contact with the foil and the wave. Amazing.
When jumping, it is a small reactive board which offers a very comfortable landing surface. You can really nailevery landing without fear of falling. A board that gives you confidence without being bulky, it certainly is the best compromise.
You don’t need to be a world champion to shine on the Mint: you’ll be able to do it all ?
Even though this board has been shortened, you still have plenty of width to facilitate riding, especially at the nose, with this magnificent smooth round nose which is the perfect compromise between performance and comfort. This is the Mint’s biggest attribute.
It is thinner than its sisters, which gives a great sense of control.
The new hull shape with a double concave nose softens the touchdowns by dissipating the energy and guiding the board in the right direction before take-off. The Mint is smooth, easy and stiff.
Its very full tail coupled with the reduction of its beam boosts take-off. The facets on the rails allow you to fly serenely without fear of braking hard at the slightest touchdown on chop or in tight curves.
The inherited tail from the Lethal is a reference in terms of flow management before take-off. Your board will no longer stick before flying. It is truly free, this is a great feeling but also very performant. And looks good in the air.
The rails are full for greater lateral stability.

The double concave under the nose dissipates shock when landing and channels the flow to fly earlier.
The set of footstraps is offered with the board. Comfortable and light, they offer perfect support for your feet even in the craziest tricks. You must have a sufficient skill level:
With bigger volumes it is easy, but if you take a volume adapted to your weight, kneeling in the chop will not be as easy as on a longer board. So, you also need to be in good physical shape to be reactive.
This is clearly the board for anyone who wants to go for the maximum potential of wing foiling.
The Mint will perfectly cover the light wind, freeride, freestyle and wave riding programs in great comfort and smoothness.
All the useful material of the board is between your feet and above the foil. It is hyper reactive and playful. It’s a great feeling to have everything right at your fingertips. The control at high speed and in the curves is fantastic.
Great and easy to surf, same for tricks, and awesome in jumps, it’s also a board that loves to go fast.
The Mint is a high performance board in wing. But by playing on the volumes, we can adapt it to our needs:
Comfort
You can select a volume large enough to float, which is your weight +10 = volume
Sport
You can also sub-liter because the Lemon is large enough to be stable. If you have a great level and want maximum responsiveness, you can switch to negative volumes.
Up to your weight -10 = volume you can go on your knees while leaning on your wing in the water.
Sinker
Your weight -30 = volume, you will have to do water starts by submerging your board: it’s very technical, very physical and you will lose part of the low wind range. You also need depth in the water, which can be frustrating. The performance gain is debatable depending on your level, but the gain in feeling and reactivity is interesting for some.

The Mint is self-sufficient in wing foiling. There is no need to supplement it with another board.
If you are greedy, a possible addition in wing foiling is to have another board for the strong wind. In this case, you can have a Mint in your size, for comfort. And another board two volumes below. For example, a Mint in your size and a Lethal two sizes smaller. This is the wave riding quiver by excellence.
The Mint is made for a very advanced wing practice, and will match perfectly with a kite foil to perform under 10 knots. A wing foil is not at its best under 10 knots. A Catch with a 13m2 Strutless and a set of smaller foil wings and go: the ultimate quiver for almost nothing to strong winds.
And when there is really nothing, your quiver will suffer from the absence of a surf board or two. Whether classic or SUP surfing, you’ll need to continue your adventures in windless waves.
And don’t forget surf foiling. It’s the magic combo with wing foiling. When one doesn’t work, the other is great. Because even on super flat days you can practice dock starts. You’ll be in crazy physical shape! The front wings are the same, you would just need a shorter mast.
In general, we recommend the same assembly as for surf foil.

The size of the front wing conditions the speed/lift ratio. The smaller the front wing, the faster you will go but the more uncomfortable you will be at low speed.
The stabs play a major role. They determine the stability of the foil and help the lift, but at the expense of the maximum speed of the foil.
Thus the X-Over Stabs are slower than the Fluid Stabs or the Veloce Stabs, but are much more load-bearing, and therefore effective at low speed.
Contrary to kite foiling, in wing foiling, you don’t have much opposition to the wing because it pulls gently. So, you don’t put a lot of upwind angle to the mast. So, mastering a big mast in wing is not a problem.
And as the boards used are much bigger than in kitesurfing, the inertia is more important. So, your foil is less wacky. Everything is calmer. So, don’t be afraid of a long mast.
In other words, everything will be played out between 85cm and 100cm. You can find all our advice on choosing between these two lengths by clicking here.
For GONG foils, place the plate in the rear third when you start and in the center of the US rails when you progress. The Pros can position the foil even further towards the front for more lift and maneuverability.
The more you move it forward, the more the board will pitch nose-up. The more you move it backwards, the more the board nose-dives.
Be careful not to move it too far forward. We often tend not to let their back foot work, especially when we come from kite foiling. However, moving the foil back a little, forces more weight on the back foot and gives a more harmonious attitude and reduces effort.
Take a 6′ of 7mm minimum diameter.
Check its condition before each session and change it every year. It is your lifejacket and the life insurance of the people in front of you.
Riding strapless is sexy because it makes you feel free. But quite honestly, it’s not the best for performance…
So, it’s up to you to see if sensation prevails over performance. On a Lethal, we’re clearly going to miss 90% of its potential without the straps.
With straps, you’ll have much more control and much less risk of getting the Foil flipping under your feet. In the waves, it’s obvious, you gain a lot with straps. You can recuperate from crazy situations just by pulling up on your feet.
Put your straps in a central position (3rd hole) for the front, and the same goes for the back strap if you always ride with the back strap (it can be used as a marker stop).

Pre-order:

Know everything about the GONG WING FOIL BOARD MINT FSP PRO
When you practice Foil you expose yoursef to possible serious Risks. A poor mastering of a Foil can expose you to Cuts and/or Serious Bodily Harm, even Death for youself and possibley others around you.
Foiling should be practiced, in all circumstances, by taking precautions and taking into cosideration all that is involved and associated with SURF/SUP sports. Remember that a Foil is long and has an edge that could cause slicing and is capable of reaching very high speeds. Getting hit by a Foil, or hitting another, can incrue dramatic and highly unwanted consequences.
Always Foil far from others, and in waters that are secure and without obstacle.
Always wear a helmet and protective vest that assures Floatability. Always wear a full body Neoprane Wetsuit.
When handling and manipulating a Foil be careful not to cut yourself along its edges.

I have to admit, my image of Gong has changed drastically over the last week (in a very positive way)! Being a windsurfer for more than 20 years now, I started wing foiling with the same brands which I knew best from windsurfing. Everything else was rubbish to me and being used to the insane prices of windsurf equipment, I really thought that Gong was one of those countless discount brands which are flooding the market.
But after trying the Gong Mint 5.0 I am happy to say that I was soooo wrong. I love the Mint and I love to charge it hard! And with such a great experience in my mind, I am really looking forward to trying the Gong wings (especially the Droid) and foils.

Une Dinguerie ???!Elle fait tout bien: ça décolle vite, hyper maniable en surf, facile dans les manœuvres… je saute pas encore en wing…mais ça demande qu à décoller ? next step ?

Je l’ai ridé en 4’6 (65L) et 4’10 (95L) pour 1m70 65kg (avant les fêtes et la chandeleur 😆 )
Cette planche fait partie de mes préférées. Cette année, les planches ce sont léthalisés (inspiration du tail magique de la Lethal).
La planche décolle effectivement plus tôt que la 2021 dû à une meilleure glisse en surface, mais pour le coup je la trouve aussi plus sensible, à volume équivalent, à genoux. Elle est plus épaisse, on est donc plus haut sur l’eau avec des facettes (les côtés latéraux) plus prononcées. La 2022 pardonne un peu plus les touchettes que la 2021.
A 65L pour +-65kg, il ne faut rester bien longtemps à genoux au risque que ça devienne plus rodéo, notamment dans les vagues. Attention à ne pas trop basculer en avant. Il faut vraiment trouver sont point d’équilibre. C’est primordial pour ce volume. Il faut être rapide pour se mettre débout puis décoller. Une fois en vol, c’est un régal
Surtout dans les vagues dû à sa compacité.
J’ai pu tester également la 4’10, qui pour le coup, pour mon gabarit, est trèèèèès confortable. C’est volumineux mais pas dérangeant encore une fois, dû au fait qu’elle soit compacte ! Et pour moi c’est sont gros point fort !
Pour des conditions flat, voir petit clapots, je garderai personnellement la 4’6
Pour des conditions en général agitées et/ou avec de la houle = je garderai la 4’8 pour garder un certain confort pour remonter vite sur la planche et sortir rapidement des zones à ne pas être 😆

Petit retour de session du week-end en Mint 4’10 qui m’a vraiment aidé dans des conditions un peu compliqué!
Condition du test 30nds et surtoilé en 4m pour mes 80kg, pas mal de vagues et houle et cette Mint m’a vraiment facilité le travail!!! C’est exactement le type de session qui m’a fait choisir cette planche, super stable pour remonter dessus même à certains moments ou ça bougeait beaucoup avec pas mal de mousse.
Ce coup-ci je ne me suis pas fatigué à essayer de monter sur la board mais juste à me gaver 😈 . Son shape bien compact en vague est vraiment sympa, super joueur en l’air.

I have to apologize! I have always thought that the tail shape does not really matter because the board does not glide anyway….
Then I watched a friend pumping the other day, and in low wind he got his board (not a GONG) with short pump strokes to glide properly, and then he took off.
With my 2021 110l MINT no chance: best to compare to a bathing hippo, I tried to imitate Balz Müller by pumping wing and board. But taking off with the board only works with enough pressure in the wing, whereby I always came very steeply on the foil – I did not have to glide even then.
This did not bother me the whole season. Little wind – I simply screwed on the 2500qcm front wing.
Today I tried my new 2022 4.10 MINT, which according to the advertising department has 30% less drag… wherever this number comes from (from a flow channel?).
First impression when climbing on it:
It carries my 85kg effortlessly even in a thick winter neo. Actually, not much difference from the wider 110. Later, in the chaotic waves of the Baltic Sea, kneeling was something to get used to, but once I stood – no worries ? .
By the way, the “swingweight” is not only noticeable in the gybes and tacks: when changing feet, the maneuver becomes much more unstable due to the lack of inertial mass. It’s like having a smaller foil. But after the 5th time, this was no longer an issue!
But the real highlight was the planing!
Every pumping motion is immediately converted into propulsion!
The new board glides over the water as if it were soap. I had to pump so significantly less … euphoric I would definitely sign the 30%, if not increase!
I am now excited for the next duel with my pumping friend. I will fly away ?.

Premier essai de ma nouvelle Mint 5.2 modèle 2022 ??
Le flotteur est très stable pour mon gabarit de 95kg aussi bien à genoux que debout même avec peu de vent.
Le décollage est efficace, le flotteur étant court il vaut mieux privilégier le pumping sur le foil pour le démarrage.
En vol c’est le top, le flotteur est bien court, les straps bien centrés, le pads confortable.
La planche est maniable, on encaisse bien les surventes sans se faire surprendre.
Un vrai régal !

Bon , bilan du passage de la hipe 5.3 à cette Mint 4.8 ( 65kgs): enthousiaste de ouf! La hipe est une bonne planche mais là c’est un autre monde, on a tellement plus d’information sous les pieds, tout est plus facile, sauf bien-sûr être a genoux dans le clapot mais franchement je pensais plus galérer. Déjà premier bord ça a été instantané, tout est plus naturel, plus vif, et quel ressentis ! Vraiment topissime ! J’ai même pu passer mes premiers vrai jibe en l’air, et naviguer toeside alors que je n’y arrivais pas en hipe. J’ai eu des moments de mou aussi et elle prend très vite de la vitesse, le pompage et le décollage se déroule à merveille ! Conquis de chez conquis ?
