Boom only strut

The central batten of the Droid has evolved compared to its UPE 200 version: it now has a “wasp waist” shape and is boom only.

The boom has become essential for those seeking the highest performance, proven by 2 victories in the last 3 competitions of 2023. One-handed tricks have become a must, and this wing has the most ergonomic, light, strong, and stiff boom on the market.
Our prepreg carbon boom also allows for significant weight savings compared to rigid handles, saving over 200 grams removing two attachment points. We also saved 30 grams thanks to the thinner batten, and every gram counts at this level. In surfing and freefly, this weight savings is essential, keeping the wing perfectly neutral and balanced.
The flex of the strut is close to zero thanks to the carbon boom that absorbs the forces at play. A non-bending strut results in a wing that stays tight, a powerful wing that never flaps and glides perfectly through the air.
Lightness and responsiveness are always prioritized in the Team Series range.

At the front of the boom, there is a pistol grip, providing a steady power that you can adjust as needed, eliminating possible flaps of the wing that slow you down when surfing in offshore wind.

The UPE Aramid is the lightest and stiffest material on the market. The sensations in hand are simply astonishing. The wing is both one of the stiffest and one of the lightest on the market, providing an entirely new sailing experience, all at an amazing price. It’s simply incredible and perfectly in line with our commitment to offering the best to as many people as possible.

At 85g/m2 (2 times less than Dacron!), this UPE Aramid present on the leading edge and the central batten ensures, in addition to a considerable weight savings (400g on a 5m2), an unparalleled gain in stiffness and reactivity. It’s simple: the wing no longer bends! We control its twisting through the Aramid axis and the design of the shape. Thus, deformations are no longer present.

In addition to its exceptional mechanical properties, this material also has a very low absorption rate. The wing gains very little weight when wet.

Obviously, a superb material without perfect assembly is worthless, and we have worked in infinite detail to ensure the reliability of the technical solutions for its implementation. For this, we have tested all known assemblies on traction machines and innovated with new and exclusive assembly methods at GONG to surpass the standards. Our wings have never been so robust.

The Droid is a compact wing with a low aspect ratio. This parameter brings great responsiveness to the wing’s maneuverability. Combined with the rigidity and lightness of the UPE Aramid, the response time is instantaneous, and rotations are ultra-fast.

The tips are more open compared to the previous version to facilitate rotations even more. The Droid is the most performant wing on the market for scoring all tricks. A pure freestyle machine that has already won 2 events on the world tour, in the hands Malo Guénolé and Bastien Escofet.

Avoiding sharp angles on the leading edge prevents snagging when the wing touches the water, essential for receptions and waveriding. Its segmentation allows perfectly controlled rigidity throughout its span.


The Droid’s V-shaped dihedral is optimized, striking the perfect balance of maximum precision and control while still being an ultra-maneuverable wing.

During fast runs, the wing is sufficiently locked to navigate confidently at high speeds. When sailing with a harness, the wing is stable, with all the power you could need for unlimited acceleration.


The wing has a pronounced camber, giving it a significant power base to accelerate on demand, crucial in Big Air and Freestyle where generating a lot of speed is necessary to take off when the bump is forming.

This camber also has the benefit of pulling the rider during a jump. We climb high, and it hangs for a long time, and when we initiate the rotation, it is a projection! Paradoxically, the landing is soft because the descent is cushioned by the rigid profile that keeps its shape.

The UPE Aramid, a true gem of textile technology developed by experts in nautical textiles.

How does it work?

  • The PET film ensures the connection between the elements and waterproofing.
  • The Aramid fibers are arranged at a chosen angle to block the fabric’s extension under load without unnecessarily adding weight to the structure.

More durability, performance, and lightness: the holy grail.

The boom with prepreg carbon applied in 4 directions enjoys the most high-end construction on the market to allow optimal rigidity with very low weight. Its oval shape offers an ideal grip which prevents fatigue, reduces the overall diameter of the boom, and increases rigidity. It is also covered with embossed EVA for perfect grip and comfort.

The fixing parts of the boom are designed to cancel out any play and to be completely removable, therefore scalable but above all extremely durable. We made the choice not to use sewn soft plastic whose lifespan is quite poor in the marine environment, under heavy loads and because of UV exposure. We have therefore chosen to make our fixing parts in a rigid plastic heavily loaded with fiberglass to offer them a longer life than those of soft handles.

The boom is screwed onto webbing reinforcements that go around the central batten to distribute the forces over its entire circumference. This system has already proven itself for many years on our wings with soft handles. The assembly sandwiches the strap for maximum strength and does not allow any twisting.

And the ultimate trick: the screwing nut is a standard nut for US foil box. A smart choice to never find yourself helpless 😉
The boom has an ideal opening angle for your wrist and for a pistol grip which allows you to have a new way of gripping the wing which can be extremely useful in maneuvers, in freeflying or simply on land.

In order to protect the wing from rigid parts, we use Kevlar reinforcements, very expensive materials but which offer incomparable abrasion resistance.

Our spinnaker is made of triple Ripstop throughout the canopy. Firstly because the feeling is much more rigid, firmer. Then because it is the best against tearing without affecting the lightness. Three large diameter fibers reinforce the fabric at regular intervals and in two 90° axes. This mesh strengthens the fabric against heavy shocks and tears.

Our freefly handle has been redesigned to provide more control during your extended surfs or during the most committed surf maneuvers. It’s the small details that make all the difference.

The choice of the type of material for the inflatable structure of your wing primarily depends on your program and ambitions.

If you prefer sailing leisurely in freeride during occasional outings, a Dacron inflatable structure will suffice. However, if you enjoy sporty, agile navigation and tricks, don’t hesitate! The UPE Aramid will provide undeniable advantages. The performance gap is significant. It goes faster, higher, and turns incredibly well.

Which quiver?

Ideal quiver for maximizing freestyle performance:

With or without a harness?

The Droid UPE Aramid is a powerful wing, so both options are valid. Some may prefer harness navigation to extend their session time, while others prioritize freedom of movement to engage in tricks. Team riders exclusively go without a harness in surf freestyle, but it depends on their physical condition and training.

If you choose to use a harness, it is easy to move your harness lines up or down the boom to find your sweet spot.

  • The Boom made of prepreg carbon wrapped around the boom in 4 directions to maximize its rigidity, it is the most high-end technology on the market! Its oval shape offers ideal ergonomics to be able to sail with this powerful wing without paralyzing the forearms.

  • A downwind handle on the leading edge which allows the shocked wing to be manipulated on land as well as on the water. The handle has been reinforced to provide more control during freefly maneuvers.
  • The inflation/deflation valves are directly connected to the hose of the pump (pump not supplied). No more incompatible or lost nozzle!
  • The neoprene valve caps have been pierced to facilitate air evacuation when folding, even closed! And with the valve caps in the neoprene, it prevents damage to the canopy.
  • The micro-slats at the trailing edge are ultra light for considerable weight savings.
  • The wing is always supplied with its repair kit.
  • To comply with sailing regulations, we have integrated a laminated label on the underside, close to the tip, to write down the owner’s personal information: name, first name, telephone number and address.
  • The Droid UPE Aramid is supplied with a high-end bag whose dimensions will allow you to store the wing easily and without dismantling either the boom or the LDS slats by rolling the wing like a windsurf sail. It’s really practical and space-saving since it’s smaller than your board. The bag is equipped with 2 ventilation hatches that allow your wing to dry even in its bag.
  • A small strap on each wingtip allows you to secure your GoPro leash to a Flymount: everything is planned for!

Some articles are proposed in pre-order during their routing to our premises. You can buy this article which will arrive at our place in a few weeks. This method avoids the fair to grab upon receipt of the lot and the disappointed ones who would not order within the hour.

Upon receipt, we will ship it to you as a regular order.

The times indicated on the pre-orders are 95% reliable. First of all, because we only pre-sell finished products that are arriving to us after Customs, and therefore shipped right after. And also, because we add decent margins with concern to the dates announced by the shipping companies or railways.

However, a Worker Strike, a breakdown, an overbooking, can unfortunately happen. In the case of a delay, you will be notified by email (check your spam). It is generally less than a week and totally independent of our good will.

As soon as we receive the container in La Baule, we ship your order within three working days. Then the carrier takes over: delivery time and tracking numbers are under their responsibility.

It is possible that the date displayed on the online for the pre-order of the item you have ordered and paid for may change for two reasons:

  1. All quantities of the batch are sold (most common reason). In this case, orders placed for the first container will be delivered as scheduled.
  2. The container is late and we have to shift the date by a few days. (Strikes, breakdowns, overbooking, can unfortunately happen). You will be notified by email.

We never change the delivery dates of a container without notifying customers.



The dates that we announce are shipping deadlines, which GONG has in stock and available here physically.

We usually give a shipping time within 3 days, but in most cases, we ship within 24/48 hours. Normally morning orders leave in the afternoon for example.

Then the transport service takes over. The variables are then important between the customer being delivered to France (very fast) or Bulgaria (a good week) or to a forwarding agent or to Asia or the USA… You understand that each location has its own type of delay.

We work with serious and well-known carriers. They do their utmost to make you happy even if a snafu can happen. In any case, we are there to make things easier and to arrange our customers.


Shipping Fees: 

Contrary to others, we do not hide shipping costs in the price of our products. At GONG everyone knows exactly what he pays. The transport is charged at its strictest value, and the person who comes to pick up his products does not pay hidden transport fees.

You must read the detailed user manual completely before using your wing for the first time.

Be sure to have a full understanding of it. Wings can be dangerous depending on their size and the strength of the wind. You have to check the wind range of your wing so that it corresponds with conditions and your actual skill level.

For the first few sessions, never use your new wing in its high wind range. Use your wing in a secure environment. Take the necessary time to learn how to handle the equipment under optimum safety conditions. Never underestimate the traction power of your wing. Even a beginner’s wing can develop a pulling force of several hundred kilos depending on its size and the strength of the wind. Do not overestimate your abilities. Misuse can cause serious injury or death to the practitioner or others. Do not use your wing at sea in offshore winds. Use your wing equipped with a leash. Be careful to avoid any collision. Be extremely careful if you sail with your wing and a board equipped with a foil. The manufacturer declines all responsibility for damage or damage caused by improper use of the wing or carelessness of the user.

Dry your wing ?

Unless you end your session with a long ride in the sun and land on a pontoon, it’s rather rare to get out of the water with a completely dry wing. ? Note that there is no need to dry your wing if it is to be used regularly in salt water, as the salt protects the materials from mold.

If, however, for transport or storage reasons you want to dry them, you must absolutely avoid hanging the deflated wing by the handle on the leading edge. It’s however very practical but it is the best way to obtain a hernia on the central strut at the junction with the leading edge following the collapse of the bladder inside. The bladders are movable in the strut and the leading edge. So if you hang it up deflated to dry, the bladder can slip, or even crumple, in the strut sleeve.

So ideally, you dry your inflated wing in the shade, and at worst flat or at least with just the inflated central strut.

How to inflate your wing?

Inflating your wing while it is still rolled can cause movements and twists of the bladder which will have the effect of deforming the inflated wing or causing hernias. It is therefore essential to fully unfold your wing before inflating it using the inflation valve on the leading edge.

Generalities about the wing

The wing is a machine with an inflatable structure directly in the rider’s hands. Handgrips are used to control its flight and the power delivered.

The wing’s number one advantage is the absence of a mast rig. This allows you to switch from a horizontal windsurf-type traction to a vertical kite-type traction. The best of both worlds can be combined in total freedom.

Much less complicated than a kite and much lighter than a windsurfing sail, the wing lightens you to the zenith and accelerates in front of you.

The wing combines the advantages and moves of these two sports, and it gives even more with all the possibilities linked to neutrality in surfing, and the rotations under the wing and other offsets… the potential of moves is endless.

Ideal when combined with a Foil, it is much more reassuring than a kite and much more manoeuvrable than a windsurf sail.

The wing is by far the simplest support to learn how to foil, far ahead of all other sports. A great way to learn to foil afterwards in other sports.

It is the perfect machine:

  • Compact, it fits in a car and is easy to fly.
  • Lightweight, you can ride your Quiver without having a hard time.
  • You can go in the water anywhere, except in the shorebreak.
  • Very little sensitive to the quality of the wind. If it falls we return quietly.
  • A potential in surfing and tricks almost infinite without a mast rig.
  • High performance for a minimum of constraints.
  • The attraction of novelty, it’s good to change sometimes.
  • No major danger.
  • Smile, smile and smile.

With its glide, you don’t have to overcast to have fun. In gusts of wind, its structure naturally absorbs excess power. The pros will be able to put on a harness to size up and boost performance. But amateurs will also find real relief in the harness. Contrary to popular belief, it’s the Wing that carries your arms, not the other way around. But after two hours without a harness, you have to admit that fatigue is there. Everyone is free to hold on with bare hands or to relieve themselves.

Ideal with a foil, it requires more air than a kite which will always have the advantage of pulling a lot from 4/5 knots. The wing will require between 10 and 15 knots to express itself on a Foil and will remain super easy even in 35 knots, even 50 knots, where the kite often rhymes with big risks.

It is great with a pure wing board, but also with multiple supports such as :

  • Rollerblade
  • Mountain board
  • Anything that slides on snow

The advantages of the wing are clearly identified: simplicity, compactness and lightness provide unequalled freedom of movement and ease of use. The wing is ready to fly in 1min chrono: no line to unroll, just two flexible slats to insert in their sheath, a few strokes and off you go.

The technology used to make the wings is very similar to that of our kitesurfing wings, but much stronger. Multiple reinforcements are present on the stress zones according to the different uses.

The shape of the wing is “self-stabilizing”. Don’t imagine orienting it by the force of your wrists like on a boom: it doesn’t work like that. You put your back hand down: the Wing will lay flat above your head. You put it up and the wing goes vertical. Easy! This is called umbrella or screen piloting. It is often said that the beginnings of the Wing are more like pole dancing than windsurfing. Indeed, you almost have to have the back hand vertically under the front hand when you are not flying, to keep the wing as an umbrella. This way you keep it away from the water, and you use its traction with the same angle as a kite to lighten up. So, think pole dance ;-))))))
