Description

Function :

The Mob is a Shortboard that is easy to surf and renders high-performance in soft, mushy waves.

Introduction :

The shape of the Mob gives you a modern style (rollerblades, cut back, 360°, air) in soft, mushy, even windy and multi-peaked waves. This compact and buoyant shape is full of dynamism and relaunch: a real turbo and a delight in the punchy waves.

Paddling, it’s a sure hit with its fast rocker. Its raised nose allows you to pass the waves easily. And it’s easy when waiting for waves with its wide extremities. This is what allows you to go down in length and have a responsive and playful Board.

In surfing, it takes off early for its size with its wide back end that the wave will push forward. From the first pumping you will feel that it is very efficient thanks to its high, and natural acceleration. A pro will turn it into a rocket out of it and score on the soft days. An intermediate will love this instant speed to make the most of getting through the sections.

It is a Board with a wide range that will be comfortable in curves as well as in tricks. The supports are evenly distributed between the two feet, unlike the narrow Boards on which you have 80% of the weight on the front leg. This tail width also provides you with more stability and power to rip soft waves; while being less technical.

More explosive in less powerful waves, it is the trademark of the Mob.

The Mob FSP 2X are a variation of the same shape in different volumes, lengths, widths to fit all sizes and levels. You can take the size most suited to your weight to crush it or oversize it for comfort.

We offer them in 5 sizes: 7’2, 7’6, 7’11, 8’3 and 8’6.

These Boards are equipped with an innovative technology called FSP 2X for the best weight / strength / performance ratio on the market. The gain is significant since it is on average 15% lighter than the 2019 FSPs. The addition of a biaxial fiber greatly strengthens the board, so no concessions have been made on the exemplary strength of the FSPs, on the contrary. It is by designing a new finishing technique, as close as possible to our prototypes made in our French factory, that we have succeeded in saving weight. We work with tinted resins to avoid as much as possible the paint that loads the board unnecessarily. Paint integrated into the resin, your board is enhanced with nobility and durability.

The MOB FSP 2X are equipped with the 3D Function pad 2020 which is more resistant and provides maximum comfort and grip. In addition, we offer them with 4 FCS II Boxes. The highest standard on the market. You will be able to have the perfect Quad set-up to accentuate your surf style and have access to a catalog with the highest of quality Fins.

Shape

  • Rocker : intermidiate between a short and longboard : exceptional maneuverability and speed in small waves.
  • Rails : Thin and soft for that real surf feeling.
  • Volume : generous without excess : early take offs and great performance in smaller/medium conditions.
  • Outline : wide at tail, stable center, a medium/high wide point and a nose close to that of a longboard.
  • Tail : fish diamond nose, wide : Stable, exceptionally fast edge to edge and plenty of rebound power.
  • Nose : diamond nose to augment weight bearing capacity and bouyancy on flat water.

Innovation is at the core of our Boards

Technology FSP 2X SUP :

  • 3D Shape on modeling software.
  • Preshape by numerical control for total reliability.
  • Shape control by traditional templates, finishing of the last mm 100% by hand.
  • 100% Epoxy Board and EPS foam blank : solid and lightweight.
  • Deck, hull and rails in PVC sandwich under vacuum : incomparable strength and incredible dynamism.
  • Deck: integral PVC/Fiberglass sandwich composed of a high-density PVC foam core and 2 layers of 4oz fiberglass and 1 layer of 6oz biaxial fiberglass, fiberglass reinforcements on sensitive areas.
  • Hull : integral PVC/Fiberglass Sandwich composed of a high-density PVC foam core and 2 layers of 4oz fiberglass and 1 layer of 6oz biaxial fiberglass, and fiberglass reinforcements on the sensitive areas.
  • Rails : the PVC Sandwich structure completely covers the rails : increased structural strength, very good shock resistance (paddle dings).
  • Carry Handle integrated in the PVC sandwich top : limits settling, avoid breakage in the surroundings.
  • Hot coat dyed in the mass : nobility of the process, weight reduction and solidity of the finish.
  • Custom Mat finish, hand-made, for weight reduction and a better glide.

The FSP 2X Technology is easily repairable when new in case of a ding. The PVC foam of the sandwich is waterproof and prevents water from entering on everyday shocks or dings.

This Techno offers, at an affordable price, the incomparable strength/lightness ratio of full vacuum PVC Sandwich.

Buying guide

For whom?

Two possibilities :

1/ You want the Board to rip everything apart in Longboard waves, but without having to use a Longboard. The Mob has this speed resource to perform in soft waves like an Alley would do in hollow waves.

So, you have a physical and technical level at the top and you will take it without excess volume to be able to move it violently.

2/ You’re pretty cool. You don’t feel like Longboarding, but you want a Board that works in   soft waves, the Mob is for you!

You may also want a Board that can do everything, not too technical if you don’t ask for verticality, compact so it fits in the car, very stable when rowing and surfing, and with a modern look.

The Mob allows for high performance in a very specific wave range. But its big plus is to allow everyone to surf a small Board without any difficulty.

Unlike its flat counterparts, the Mob has rocker. It is not complicated at the take off.

For What?

Going from zero to 100 in a few meters in soft waves : that’s her strong point.

The Mob is all about acceleration. So, it’s the ideal Board for riding in soft waves.

Its “rectangular” but harmonious outline, without excess, gives it great stability. But it also naturally orientates it towards the so-called horizontal moves : snaps, airs, floaters, 360°.

You can of course pull rollers on it, but its specialty is to take speed to burn it in a forceful move. It is not to gently ride mellow on the face of the wave.

How Big?

  • The 7’2 is easy for those under 70 kg and technically performant for those under 80 kg.
  • The 7’6 is easy for those under 80 kg and technically performant for those under 90 kg.
  • The 7’11 is easy for those under 90 kg and technically performant for those under 100 kg.
  • The 8’3 is easy for those under 100 kg and technically performant for those under 110 kg.
  • The 8’6 is easy for everyone, certainly too easy for the lighter riders.

Quiver Partners ?

We like the Mob on the low beach: in the small waves, in the chop, in the mushy waves. That’s where it outperforms the other Boards.

So, obviously, it’s going to encroach on the Longboards. But a Longboarder can also want to be compact from time to time. He may encounter waves where there is little room to move, surprise sections to be dealt with as an opportunist. The Mob will then impose itself!

The Quivers that go well, from small waves to big waves :

  • Mob + Fatal + Karmen or Alley: this is the quiver of the pure ShortSUPer.
  • Mob + Fatal : it’s the Quiver of the ShortSUPer which likes compact boards.
  • Never Stick + Mob + Karmen : it’s the most vast quiver in feelings and ranges of use.
  • A 12’0 + Mob + Alley : it’s also a huge Quiver in feelings and ranges of use.

The Mob will complete a surf Quiver quite easily by its performance in small waves. But one will often hesitate to take it because it is the program of a good fish like the Pie or a Matata. A surfer will certainly want to spend time on his surfboards rather than on a SUP.

What kind of Fin mounting ?

This very wide tailed Board is only available in Quad, a very fast mountingfor who like to use the thighs to push it hard.

All the classical mountings work, no monstrous gain in performance when going to exoticism. A good set of rigid Performers will be perfect. Switch to Carvers if you want more directional stability (control).

Especially no Reactor.

Toledo and Wilson are great, Fannings are more powerful for the same size. But these Fins are only sold as a Tri Fin set. To be completed with retail Quads Rears.

Take your recommended Fin size or just above. No less. You’re going to need grip to exploit it.

Reminder of the recommended FCS II Fin sizes  :

  • XS for those under 55 kg / 120 Lbs
  • S for 55 kg – 70 kg / 120 Lbs – 155 Lbs
  • M for 65 kg – 80 kg / 145 Lbs – 175 Lbs
  • L for 75 kg – 90 kg / 165 Lbs – 200 Lbs
  • XL for those over 85 kg / 190 Lbs.

Note that before the shape, it is the material of the Fins that make the performance. Keep in mind that the stiffer a Fin is, the better it works. Yes, a pro needs good Fins, but an amateur also needs to go fast because speed is the basis of all manoeuvres.

Never go shorter, except when Kiting.

A surfer who wants more speed, to make more beautiful curves, to surf more cleanly, to work on his speed gain, will take one size above the recommended size.

In a mounting that mixes sets, consider that the sides do the grip and acceleration; and the backs do the pivot, drive and some grip. So, focus on Laterals in front that fit your need for power and speed.

Flat inner-sided quad rear Fins have more grip and less glide. A stronger grip, but a Vmax and a mania one hair below the curved inner faces (20/80 for example). Go for the flat sides despite everything.

And too big quad backs totally block the handling of your Board, giving you the impression that its tail “floats” too much in the curves. Hateful. Better too small than too big.

How long should my Paddle be?

Your size no more and no less, ideally in Pro for the weight. You can take a little shorter if you are oriented on a radical use. Some people cut it to the height of their eyebrows.

Which Leash ?

Take the length of your Board : 7′ or 8′, even 9′ on the 8’6.

Less shoulder size, a reduced diameter (6mm) will help you gain a lot of speed. Above that, you must have 7mm minimum.

Check its condition before each session and change it every year. This is your lifejacket
