Description

Function

Tear the spot apart in all types of waves, a pure shortboard that’s easy to paddle and for handling choppy conditions.

Introduction

The Karmen FSP 2X are boards 100% dedicated to curves: rollers, top turns, slash, powerful cut back, airs and waves with power, it turns on the spot and on demand. Ideal for those who want to produce an aggressive surf while keeping an easy board to paddle with comfort.

It’s a fluid and comfortable shape that comes in 8 sizes : 6’10, 7’3, 7’8, 7’11, 8’4, 8’9, 9’2 and 9’10 to satisfy all surfers.

We particularly like its tail, which combines frank acceleration in the surf and incredible maneuverability. The work on the hull is no stranger to this, as are the rails. But what sticks out is a board that reacts immediately and healthily.

Its comfortable nose combined with an important rocker gives two great qualities: it does not pearl and the board is super manoeuvrable.

The concave in the center of the hull tightens the lines for more speed. The more you push on the board, the faster it goes. And it never skids away because this concave gives a lot of control.

Shape

Harmony is the number one quality of the shapes designed by l’Ours. His ability to merge and blend shaping elements is simply exceptional. The boards are simply beautiful, without the need for bells and whistles. And that is a sure way to appreciate the expert hand of a great shaper.

Two main areas of work have guided the development of the Karmen: the bullet nose and the hull in single concave (under the paddling position) then double concave (between the feet in the surf position) ending in a V (under the rear foot).

The bullet nose of the Karmen provides the useful surface to be relaxed when paddling. When you put it on the water, you really feel its surface helping, but above all the nose tightens the front lines of the board. The width is felt right from the toes when paddling as the outline line is a bit wider from the beam. Finally, these outline lines in the front third are more parallel than on a point nose, which prevents the board from making mistakes when you pearl a little on the take off. This nose is more comfortable in all respects.

The shape of this thin nose carries you with its surface. The volume is concentrated towards the center of the board, where it is most useful to you. This new distribution of the volume / surface ratio thins the board and allows a more aggressive surf, but also easier. The stability is better than with a point nose, so you can choose the right volume without worrying about repeated falls as soon as the water is agitated.

The hull is particularly worked, in connection with all the other parameters. A flat nose to carry without making mistakes. The concave in the center of the board gives a lot of stability to paddling and acceleration at the bottom turn. The double concave in front of the side fins distributes water over these fins dedicated to acceleration and creates a central Vee as a rail to rail tilting point. Finally, the tail ends in a pronounced Vé to assert the rail to rail and free the board in the curves.

The central beam allows a tight radii of curves and great liveliness. The board is light underfoot. This placement of the beam invites you to move your feet back to make the most of the maneuverability of this shape.

The diamond tail carries to accelerate in soft waves. It carries a little less than a pure square tail, and gives more rail to rail to your ride. We really feel the board lighter under the feet. But this extended width to the tail will stretch the outline line behind the back foot and stabilize the board at high speeds. The opposite of a round tail, for example, which would have given too much handling, to the point of losing a lot of control and docility. This diamond tail offsets the set back beam to balance overall handling.

This pure shortboard rocker is relatively pronounced to provide safety on the steep sections. As the hull picks up a lot of water to launch the board, the rocker can be more pronounced without losing lift. And the center concave tightens the center rocker line for more speed and acceleration. We have a board that turns short as soon as you put it on the rail, and that flies on the flat sections.

The rails are round and soft in front and clearly aggressive from the beam. We’re on a modern board that likes to surf with speed and explosiveness.

The volume is delicately distributed with a dominant around the carrying handle to keep a thin tail and distribute the liters exactly where you need them. No worries about the thickness of the rails at this point as the domed deck plan erases the volume near the rails on this wide board.

Equipements

The Karmen FSP 2X are equipped with our premium 5mm thick 3D Function pad for maximum grip and comfort. This non-slip deck coating is “smart” as it provides different sensations in different parts of the deck, with groovings and openings designed for proprioception. Your feet are better positioned and informed of their exact position to give you a more precise surf.

An ergonomic carrying handle on the deck makes it easy to handle the board out of the water. It also allows you to get the board out of the water with only one hand, which is handy!

In addition, we assemble these boards with 5 FCS II boxes (2 + 1 fin set-up on the 9’10). The anchoring is firm and therefore the most efficient and solid. It is simply the highest standard of fin box on the market. You can therefore set up your fins in quad or trifin according to your desires and your surfing style by accessing an almost endless catalog of top-of-the-range fins.

The pressure relief screw is automatic. It is made up of a waterproof membrane that allows air to pass through. It will handle the common variations in pressure between the outside and the inside of your board. The durability gain is considerable, without you having to worry about it.

The leash plug is indestructible as it is glued into the high density PVC sandwich of the deck. The guarantee of not losing your board in the rocks for example, nor of seeing water seep through the plug because the PVC is waterproof.

Construction

These boards are equipped with our innovative and high-end technology called FSP 2X for the best weight / strength / performance compromise on the market. It’s quite simply the ultimate in custom vacuum fiberglass techno, as standard.

The shape is cut with a numerical control (CNC) from a high-end and lightweight EPS foam blank.

We glue in vacuum on the entire board, at a pressure of several tons, a fiberglass and high density PVC foam (called Airex) which forms a hydrophobic shell of 3mm that’s super strong and rigid.

Then we apply a biaxial fiberglass which completely covers the sandwich of the board. This super strong mesh acts as a protective grid with its large strands of fiber. It boosts performance by taking over the flex tensions and reinforcing the board for increased durability. This biaxial layer is covered by a classic fiberglass for a nice finish.

These outer layers are also placed in vacuum. This modern process densifies the composite and leaves it only the exact dose of useful resin. The rest is absorbed by a blotting cloth to make your board as light as possible.

Then come the finishing coats with a first hot coat in epoxy resin, super resistant to impact. Then a polyester hot coat which will equalize the micro variations of the surface (less than a millimeter).

And finally the decoration which is as light as possible, therefore with transparency effects which reveal the construction for the greatest pleasure of the eyes. We don’t like painting because it puts on a lot of weight and it’s fragile. We prefer noble materials directly accessible under your eyes and sublimated by some stylish decorative elements.

Our technology is truly the pinnacle of board building. Durable, efficient, repairable, the brands capable of offering a total PVC sandwich in large series in SUP can be counted on the fingers of one hand and GONG is the leading one!

Instructions

Innovation is at the core of our products

  • 3D shape on modeling software.
  • Preshape by numerical control for total reliability.
  • Shape control by traditional templates, finishing off the last mm 100% by hand.
  • 100 % epoxy resin and EPS foam blank: solid and lightweight.
  • Deck, hull, and rails in vacuumed PVC sandwich: incomparable solidity and incredible dynamism.
  • Deck: full PVC/fiberglass sandwich composed of a high-density PVC foam core and 2 layers of 4oz fiberglass and 1 layer of 6oz biaxial fiberglass, fiberglass reinforcements on the sensitive areas.
  • Hull: full PVC/fiberglass sandwich composed of a high-density PVC foam core and 2 layers of 4oz fiberglass and 1 layer of 6oz biaxial fiberglass, fiberglass reinforcements on the sensitive areas.
  • Rails: the PVC sandwich structure completely covers the rails: increased structural strength, very good impact resistance (paddle hits).
  • Integrated carrying handle in the top PVC Sandwich : limits settling, avoids breakage in the surrounding area.
  • Resin tinted hot coat : nobility of the process, weight saving and solidity of the finish.
  • Hand-made matt “custom finish” for weight saving and a better glide.

The FSP 2X technology is easily repairable as new in the event of dings or accidents. The PVC foam of the sandwich is waterproof and prevents water from entering on everyday impacts. EPS foam blank does not deteriorate because it is really protected from water. And repairs have a much larger support to lean on and blend seamlessly with the surrounding material.

Buying guide

For whom?

It’s the board for the one who doesn’t want any hassles: it works all the time.

It will be perfect for a Pro who wants comfort and high performance. But also for an almost beginner who will find in the big sizes a mellow and progressive board.

Neither wide nor narrow, it is easy to paddle and fast. You don’t need to be a world champion to stand on it.

The range comes in all possible sizes: there is one bound to be yours.

Either you’re a hot head, and you want to size down, or you want a cool board and you’re going to take it with a generous volume.

For what?

The Karmen is the board that does it all.

Small or big waves, soft or hollow, glassy or choppy, smooth curves or radical tricks, it does it all.

What size?

  • The 6’10 is best of the line for pros up to 65kg.
  • The 7’3 is best for pros up to 75kg.
  • The 7’8 is best for experienced riders up to 85kg.
  • The 7’11 is best for experienced riders weighing up to 95kg.
  • The 8’4 starts to be more gentle, perfect for athletic riders up to 90kg.
  • The 8’9 is cool for those under 90kg who are not very sporty and want comfort.
  • The 9’2 is “easy” for those under 100kg who are not very sporty and want comfort.
  • The 9’10 is super easy for everyone.

Which board bag?

Quiver partners?

The Karmen sits at the center in a SUP quiver. It’s self-sufficient and goes with everything. It’s often the board we take when the choice is not obvious. If hesitating: Karmen!

When the conditions are ideal for a Noserider, it’s obvious. We will hit the line-up with a NFA or a Noserider even more typified like the Soul or the Neverstick.

If we want more explosiveness, we’ll complete this Karmen with an Alley. And if we want more explosivity in the soft waves, we’ll get a Mob.

The Karmen will not have a hard time finding its place in a surfing quiver because it’s a board that does everything or almost everything. It will then be an alternative, but not a complement.

Which fin set-up?

Tri-Fin is the best option for nice curves on the Karmen.

The Quad works very well, especially on the bigger sizes to maximize the grip of the tail and boost the top speed and acceleration.

All the classic setups work, no particular gain in performance if you’re trying to get exotic. A good set of Performers will be perfect. Switch to Carvers if you want more directional stability (control).

To go further in the performance, Toledo and Wilson are top of the line, Fanning are more powerful for the same size. These Fins are only sold as a Tri-Fin set. To be completed with separately sold rear quads if you want all the configurations.

Take your recommended Fin size or just above. No less. You will need grip to harness its potentiel.

Reminder of the recommended FCS2 Fin sizes:

  • XS for those under 55 kg / 120 Lbs
  • S for 55 kg – 70 kg / 120 Lbs – 155 Lbs
  • M for 65 kg – 80 kg / 145 Lbs – 175 Lbs
  • L for 75 kg – 90 kg / 165 Lbs – 200 Lbs
  • XL for those over 85 kg / 190 Lbs.

Note that before the shape, it is the material of the fins that makes the performance. Remember that the stiffer the fins, the better it works. Yes, a pro needs good fins, but an amateur also needs to go fast because speed is the basis of all maneuvers.

Never take shorter, unless perhaps for kiting.

A surfer who wants more speed, more beautiful curves, cleaner surfing, working on his speed gain, will take one size above the recommended size.

How to compose a Quad that suits you:

In a setup that mixes sets, consider that the front side fins do the grip and the acceleration; and the rear ones do the pivot, the drive and a little bit of grip. So, focus on good side fins adapted to your need for power and speed.

Flat inner-sided quad rears have more grip and less glide. A stronger grip, but a top speed and a handling one notch below the curved inner faces (20/80 for example). Favor the flat sides despite everything.

And too big quad rears totally block the handling of your board, giving you the impression that its tail “floats” too much in the curves. Hateful. Better too small than too big.

In 9’10 the Karmen fin set-up is 2 + 1, so two FCS2 side fins and a US center fin. The goal is to increase the size of the center to give more drive to this big board. To make it more maneuverable, you can equip it with a sharper fin than the standard one. You can keep two big side fins and mount a 6″ or 7″ Clique, or Connect center fins, which will give you more smoothness in the rail to rail, and make the rollers go in automatic mode. The front of the center fin 1cm behind the tips of the side fins for maximum maneuverability and 5cm behind the tips of the side fins for maximum control.

Some major assembly guidelines:

  • Side fins of 115mm + center fin of 6″: not enough drive, it’ll skid out a lot.
  • Side fins of 115mm + center fin of 7”: ideal for a maximum of handling and freedom in the curves.
  • Side fins of 115mm + center fin of 8”: perfect turn management and nice curves.
  • Side fins of 115mm + center fin of 9”: a lot of drive, probably too much.
  • Side fins of 115mm + center fin of 10”: too much unless you weigh 120 kg.

The front of the center fin 1cm to 2cm behind the tips of the side fins

How long should your paddle be?

Between your height and your height + 5cm, ideally in the Pro version for its weight. You can take it a bit shorter if you are into a more radical drive. Some cut it at the height of their eyebrows.

Which leash?

Take the length of your board: 7’ to 10’.

Take the length of your board and a 10’ for the 12’. Under shoulder high waves, reduced diameter (6mm) will make you gain a lot of speed. Above you must have a minimum of 7mm.

Check its condition before each session and change it every year. This is your life jacket.

Included equipments

Shipping

Availability:

The dates of availability of all our products are written on each product page, in the size and colour of the product concerned.

These dates are valid at the moment you consult the site and/or place an order. It is possible that this product may be ordered a few seconds after your consultation. It then becomes unavailable. If you have placed an order, this change does not concern you: the product you order is still available on the date indicated at the time of your order.

We sell several thousand products per week. The stocks are therefore very evolutionary. But our management always shows you the real availability live.

If it’s available online: it’s available 😉

Pre-order:

Some articles are proposed in pre-order during their routing to our premises. You can buy this article which will arrive at our place in a few weeks. This method avoids the fair to grab upon receipt of the lot and the disappointed ones who would not order within the hour.

Upon receipt, we will ship it to you as a regular order.

The times indicated on the pre-orders are 95% reliable. First of all, because we only pre-sell finished products that are arriving to us after Customs, and therefore shipped right after. And also, because we add decent margins with concern to the dates announced by the shipping companies or railways.

However, a Worker Strike, a breakdown, an overbooking, can unfortunately happen. In the case of a delay, you will be notified by email (check your spam). It is generally less than a week and totally independent of our good will.

As soon as we receive the container in La Baule, we ship your order within three working days. Then the carrier takes over: delivery time and tracking numbers are under their responsibility.

It is possible that the date displayed on the online for the pre-order of the item you have ordered and paid for may change for two reasons:

  1. All quantities of the batch are sold (most common reason). In this case, orders placed for the first container will be delivered as scheduled.
  2. The container is late and we have to shift the date by a few days. (Strikes, breakdowns, overbooking, can unfortunately happen). You will be notified by email.

We never change the delivery dates of a container without notifying customers.

Delays:

The dates that we announce are shipping deadlines, which GONG has in stock and available here physically.

We usually give a shipping time within 3 days, but in most cases, we ship within 24/48 hours. Normally morning orders leave in the afternoon for example.

Then the transport service takes over. The variables are then important between the customer being delivered to France (very fast) or Bulgaria (a good week) or to a forwarding agent or to Asia or the USA… You understand that each location has its own type of delay.

We work with serious and well-known carriers. They do their utmost to make you happy even if a snafu can happen. In any case, we are there to make things easier and to arrange our customers.

Shipping Fees:

Contrary to others, we do not hide shipping costs in the price of our products. At GONG everyone knows exactly what he pays. The transport is charged at its strictest value, and the person who comes to pick up his products does not pay hidden transport fees.

Shipping costs are calculated according to the weight and volume of each package, and your delivery address. To this is added a labour time of order preparation.

The invoicing of the shipping costs is identical in continental France and in the bordering European countries. A surcharge is automatically invoiced for deliveries to the most distant European countries and all European islands.

For a shipment in French overseas departments and territories or outside Europe, our logistics department will contact you before the payment stage to give you an estimate of the shipping costs. You will be able to accept this estimate and pay your order, or refuse it and cancel your order.

Any questions:

We answer you within 24 hours by email. But 95% of your questions are answered on the site. Try to use our contact form which will guide you to all these answers.

Don’t forget to read the Forum, where thousands of users exchange information and experiences.

In any case, don’t panic. If you don’t get an answer during the weekend, it’s normal: the team is resting 😉

We are passionate and professional in our job. Our only goal is to make you happy, as much as possible 😉

Eco-responsible packaging:

Preserving the environment is a top priority. That’s why we are doing everything possible to reduce our environmental footprint.

The first thing is to sell quality products that will last, be repairable and will please you for a long time.

The second thing is to sell for less. Most of the pollution coming from a Board is in its use (the km driven to use it) and in the countless environmental damages you have to do to pay for it. Each euro spent is a sum of damage related to your life quite simply: eating, working hard etc… By reducing the price of our products, we significantly reduce your ecological footprint on this item.

For our shipments we use:

  • Flexi-Hex: ecological packaging of very high resistance.
  • Paper Craft Scotch Tape.
  • Final packaging made of high-end cardboard.

All this for:

  • Reusable and recyclable packaging.
  • An almost total reduction of single-use plastic.
  • Maximum protection and impact resistance thanks to the innovative design of Flexi-Hex honeycomb (35mm thick).

Tracking of your parcels :

The tracking of deliveries is directly ensured by the carriers to whom we have entrusted your parcels. They will contact you by email or SMS to allow you to choose the delivery methods and to follow the route of your package.

If you ask us for this tracking, we will have to do as you do: we will go see on the carrier’s app because they are the ones who manage and are responsible for this job.

Delivery:

We collaborate with the best transport providers to deliver you everywhere in Europe and in the world in very short delays.

We have chosen them for their quality of service and their respect of deadlines. 80% of your orders reach their destination in less than 48 hours of processing in metropolitan and continental France.

For Europe, the delays vary from 3 to 6 days depending on the country of destination.

For the rest of the world, delays can be up to 15 days.

Please note that the transport time is added to the preparation/shipping time. Two companies work on your order (GONG and the carrier). Each one controls its activity and commits itself to optimize its delays so that you are delivered as soon as possible, in good condition and at a reasonable price.

Reception of your Board:

Upon delivery, simply open and inspect the condition of your Board in the presence of the carrier. A complete email explaining the procedure to follow will be sent to you when your order is shipped.

In spite of our requirements and all the care we take in packaging and protecting your Board, transportation hazards may occur. Even if it concerns less than 2% of everything we ship around the world, a Board can suffer a more or less important transportation shock.

But in any case, don’t worry, just refuse it, and a new Board will be shipped back to you.

Returns:

You can choose to return your products if:

  • You are not satisfied (14 days right of retraction).
  • You want to change an item.
  • You have refused your package.

For each situation, contact us by our contact form to help you.

2 reviews for GONG SUP KARMEN FSP 2X

  1. Fabrice Degli Esposti

    Finition : Karmen devant quatro, la couleur est superbe, le Pad est super confortable,impressionnant;
