Racing, training and high tempo cruising on the flat with a top of the range board!

Introduction

The Couine Marie are high-end boards created by a renowned shaper and passionate engineers.

The new Couine Marie Race Flat Water is a rocket dedicated to calm waters or to rowers of good level.

This comfortable and lightweight board allows for some intense physical training, also to develop a pro technique, and to achieve great performance in races. The perfect board for those weekend races!

And beyond racing, you can simply go on the water with friends to clear your head, without any hassle, without spending a fortune, without any risk of damage, without having to have extra space in your garage; so, you can just enjoy its fabulous glide. Zen & sporty.

We like to define our Couine Marie range as the Full Option version of the inflatable SUP boards. They are equipped with all high-end accessories, an ultra-worked pad, ergonomic handles designed for racing use.

With a superb design, the Couine Marie Race is really a beautiful stand up paddle board at a record price and at the top of the range.

It has it all:

  • a super comfortable foam lined bag,
  • a US box compatible with all the best fins,
  • ergonomic silicone “racing” carrying handles,
  • a central foam handle in soft neoprene,
  • a tail pad with kicker for better control to better control it in the surf and place your rear foot correctly at the buoys.

Construction

With its top of the range inflatable technology in Doubled Layered Welded Woven Dropstitch, this GONG board is beautiful, light, very rigid and really solid.

The Couine Marie are the best, yet still accessible with our direct sales distribution that does not add margins. We are far from the low cost boards made in low end factories by people who know nothing about it.

GONG is a serious and renowned brand, which got into stand up paddling in its very early days and brought it to the level of respectability that we know today. It is therefore unthinkable for us to make low-end products that we see in supermarkets.

Equipments

The Couine Marie Race Flat Water comes with a US central fin because the objective of the Couine Marie range is to have a high performance SUP. When we know that the fin makes 50% of the performance of a board, GONG had to come up with a relevant solution. This is why our inflatable SUPs offer a US box for the center fin. Thus, you will have access to the largest standard on the high-end fin market. A huge choice of fins to adapt according to your level, your practice and the conditions.

It is equipped with four carrying handles to grab it easily.

  • A central padded and neoprene handle to carry the board under your arm.
  • Two ergonomic silicone “race” handles in the front third that allow you to either pass the foams by pulling the board, or to get out of the water by dragging the board over the water.
  • A front handle for entering the water and for handling the board in the water or on land. Really practical!

The bungee cord at the front of the board is super practical for securing a dry bag or the paddle. Perfect for bringing safety gear, water and a snack.

The large diameter leash ring is the strongest on the market. And we’ve added a towing ring for safety, but also because it’s really handy to have an attachment point on the nose during transport, at anchor, or to secure a camera.

The Deck Pad is particularly designed to be efficient and comfortable. At the level of the bungee cord, the 5 mm Double Diamond Deck Pad allows the equipment to be well wedged during navigation. It does not move! When racing, the grooved Deck Pad is super comfortable, the feet are well anchored. At the tail, we find the 5mm Double Diamond Deck Pad with kicker which offers flawless grip and comfort, perfect for downwinds, surfing and manoeuvers.

The supplied double-action inflation pump is super efficient to be the first in the water.

A repair kit is also included in the event of damage (note the kit is delivered without glue which you will easily find in your DIY store). Note that we have the components of your board in stock in order to repair it fairly easily.

Everything comes in a super practical and solid rolling carry bag.

  • The wheels are on the opposite side to the carrying face so as not to pinch your buttocks when walking and not to roll on the carrying straps.
  • These backpack straps are very padded and comfortable.
  • The handles are super strong and comfy.
  • The large front pocket allows you to store your accessories and personal effects without risking losing them.
  • And the compression straps keep the bag volume to a minimum.

Nothing is missing!

Shape

This shape is made for gliding. Its sleek lines are designed to promote paddling speed. It is a clever adaptation of the thousands of templates that we have developed over the past 30 years that allows us to have such efficient and facilitating behavior.

In racing, we appreciate its glide specific to inflatable boards, very fluid, which is boosted by its narrow outline, especially at the tail. Its almost constant rocker and narrow width allow for maximum speed. Thanks to its sufficiently large volume and a little width in front of the toes, we have the stability necessary for an effective paddling in phases of relaunch or instability.

If you want to pick up the pace, its streamlined shape will accelerate without ease. In terms of maneuverability, winding a buoy with its narrow tail is technical but so efficient.

Surfing a swell during a downwind or waves breaking on the beach is not its favorite discipline but its natural glide will make it surf within only a few paddle strokes.

In more difficult conditions, its point nose allows you to go through the choppy water serenely.

For every size, volume is important, but this is not the board for your debut in racing. This is the racing shape to perform!

3D View:

The Benefits are clear:

  • An efficient shape created by the pioneers of SUP in Europe.
  • Proven techno on tens of thousands of boards.
  • The “Full Options” finish of inflatable boards.
  • A record weight for the best rigidity on the market!!!
  • An incredible price that can only be explained by our direct sales relationship with you.

Shape

  • Rocker: almost constant and low. Maximum speed.
  • Rails: by nature, soft and round all along, which provides a very efficient glide. Rigid rail and straight at the tail for a better exit of water.
  • Volume: thickness is important for relaunch. It offers a generous volume.
  • Outline: a thin tail to reduce drag, moderate in the center and a race nose that lifts to generate support in a dynamic paddle.
  • Tail: rounded tail for less drag.
  • Nose: point nose for rowing speed.

Innovation is at the core of our products

TECHNOLOGY GONG SUP COUINE MARIE RACE 12'6 FLAT WATER

Technology Couine Marie

  • Woven Dropstitch Double Layer Welded technology, the best compromise between weight/stiffness/strength. Combining our historical Double Layer Welded technology with the new Woven Dropstitch, this technology is by far the most reliable, lightest and stiffest.
  • Weight savings of around 20% compared to the classic Double Layer (no glue between the 2 welded PVC layers).
  • Rigidity gain of 30% compared to standard technology.
  • Strength gain: twice as thick as standard technology.
  • Double layer of PVC on the rails.
  • Triple layer central stringer on deck and hull for maximum rigidity and reduced vibration.
  • Premium Woven Dropstitch: the slightest irregularity is refused and the batch is resold to low cost factories.
  • High density Dropstitch Woven: with more threads per square meter than a basic Woven, it resists much higher pressures, lasts much longer, and does not present a risk of explosion.
  • Working pressure: 15 PSI. Our Stand Up Paddle Boards are perfectly rigid at 15 PSI. There is no need to overinflate them, but you can mount them at 20 PSI without any problem.
  • Two-year Warranty on all our Inflatable Boards.
  • We keep in stock all the elements that make up your Board because we are manufacturers. So, you can easily repair them and make them last for more than ten years. It’s as simple as repairing a bicycle wheel.

What is Woven Dropstitch?

To understand Dropstitch, it is two skins that are connected by threads every x millimeters. These skins are made of waterproof PVC and the threads are ultra-resistant. All these threads are vertical and of the same length. They allow the two skins to be parallel under tension. When we create this mesh of threads, we are going to make “knots” on the surface a bit like canvas. Then we drown these surfaces in PVC to form the waterproof skins.

We then describe the particularities of the Woven under two axes:

1/ Vertical

The Dropstitch threads are no longer aligned vertically but crossed at different angles, thus forming oblique struts that are cleverly distributed to balance each other. This concept gives much more rigidity to the whole.

2/ Horizontal

The flat braiding of the Dropstitch (the knots) becomes a very compact mesh which brings a great rigidity to the Board. In Woven Dropstitch the fibers are spread out instead of being in cylinders. This mesh is tighter and more homogeneous. It consumes less PVC in the interstices, like combed fibers which consume less resin in the Carbon.

The density of the mesh naturally increases rigidity and requires a thinner PVC backing than conventional Dropstitch (1.9mm vs. 2.5mm for equivalent rigidity).

This optimized weave therefore allows the material to be considerably lighter, without altering its qualities.

Always Double Layer please!!

Attention, our techno remains a Double Layer thermo-welded with all its advantages of rigidity and strength.

What we call the Woven Dropstitch is the heart of the Inflatable Board, which makes the inner dynamics of the Board. But on the outside, nothing is better than a Double Welded Layer to protect your Board from aggressions.

For your information, the Woven can be offered in single or double layer. It’s obviously cheaper in single layer ? Inform yourself and ask questions…

The Double Layer Woven is the high-end version of the Inflatable Boards.

Which Boards are made of Woven?

The Woven Dropstitch is the techno for all our Couine Marie SUP, but also in the HIPE.

The 3″ thick Boards like the Couine Marie Surfboards and the smaller HIPE, remain in classic Dropstitch since the Woven is not produced in 3″ to date.

Buying guide

For whom?

The shape of the board makes it ideal for experienced or sporty paddlers. The width is reasonable and its outline offers some margin in front of your feet so that you can attack each paddle stroke without restraint.

However, we do not recommend it if you are a beginner.

For what?

Its program is to glide as well as possible, without becoming a crazy balancing act. It is therefore ideal on calm bodies of water.

Rowing fast, training, high tempo cruising, racing… That’s what this board likes.

What size of Couine Marie Race 12’6 Flat Water board?

  • In Downwind: it’s tricky.
  • Size: less than 85kg ideally but it doesn’t matter as long as your level allows you to handle this width.

The 12’6 x 29’’ Race FW

  • Outings of less than an hour and a half on calm bodies of water.
  • In Downwind: it’s doable.
  • Size: less than 100kg ideally but it doesn’t matter as long as your level allows you to handle this technical tail.

What is the difference between our Chip range and Couine Marie range ?

What is the difference between our Chip range and Couine Marie range ? Summary table

Best quiver choices?

This board is perfect with a Carbon Pro GONG Paddle cut to the right size or adjustable, and a premium fiberglass or carbon fin.

What length of paddle?

If you want high performance, you will need a paddle of your size + 5cm to 15cm..

For cruising, a paddle your size +15 to +20 cm is ideal.

Its length determines your paddling frequency and turning radius.

What length of paddle?

Which leash?

For the Couine Marie RACE FLAT WATER range, a 10 ’leash is ideal. Depending on your preferences and your use, you can choose a classic ankle or knee leash for a mixed cruising/surfing use, or a coiled leash that limits drag for a 100% cruising use.
Check its condition before each session and change it every year. This is your life jacket.

Good to know:

Never leave your board in the sun, let alone an inflatable board which will heat up very quickly. You risk seeing it peel off because the materials it is made of become flexible in the heat. Never store it under a car window, or in contact with a heat source.

Never let your board get roughed up in the waves, especially when you’re close to the beach. You have to protect it from major strains. A wave that takes your board and rolls it can do damage.

Do not hold it by the leash indefinitely because it can give way under very high tension. Avoid big waves and don’t resist. If it breaks, it’s easy to change but annoying.

Stay away from oysters: this is one of the few seashells that can cut your board and sink it in seconds. Be careful +++

Don’t let your inflatable board rub on something for a long time. It can happen on a boat, for example, that your board moves with each wave and rubs for hours in the same place. The material will disintegrate because it will be as sanded. You will have a hole that will need to be covered with a patch.

Never put the board between the wave and you: risk of a broken nose type injury 😉

Do not paddle far at sea with an offshore wind, and avoid windy outings as it is rarely fun and always dangerous. SUP is an activity that involves real risks, even in seemingly peaceful conditions. Always anticipate these risks and protect yourself.

Shipping

Availability:

The dates of availability of all our products are written on each product page, in the size and colour of the product concerned.

These dates are valid at the moment you consult the site and/or place an order. It is possible that this product may be ordered a few seconds after your consultation. It then becomes unavailable. If you have placed an order, this change does not concern you: the product you order is still available on the date indicated at the time of your order.

We sell several thousand products per week. The stocks are therefore very evolutionary. But our management always shows you the real availability live.

If it’s available online: it’s available ?

Pre-order:

Some articles are proposed in pre-order during their routing to our premises. You can buy this article which will arrive at our place in a few weeks. This method avoids the fair to grab upon receipt of the lot and the disappointed ones who would not order within the hour.

Upon receipt, we will ship it to you as a regular order.

The times indicated on the pre-orders are 95% reliable. First of all, because we only pre-sell finished products that are arriving to us after Customs, and therefore shipped right after. And also, because we add decent margins with concern to the dates announced by the shipping companies or railways.

However, a Worker Strike, a breakdown, an overbooking, can unfortunately happen. In the case of a delay, you will be notified by email (check your spam). It is generally less than a week and totally independent of our good will.

As soon as we receive the container in La Baule, we ship your order within three working days. Then the carrier takes over: delivery time and tracking numbers are under their responsibility.

It is possible that the date displayed on the online for the pre-order of the item you have ordered and paid for may change for two reasons:

  1. All quantities of the batch are sold (most common reason). In this case, orders placed for the first container will be delivered as scheduled.
  2. The container is late and we have to shift the date by a few days. (Strikes, breakdowns, overbooking, can unfortunately happen). You will be notified by email.

We never change the delivery dates of a container without notifying customers.

Delays:

The dates that we announce are shipping deadlines, which GONG has in stock and available here physically.

We usually give a shipping time within 3 days, but in most cases, we ship within 24/48 hours. Normally morning orders leave in the afternoon for example.

Then the transport service takes over. The variables are then important between the customer being delivered to France (very fast) or Bulgaria (a good week) or to a forwarding agent or to Asia or the USA… You understand that each location has its own type of delay.

We work with serious and well-known carriers. They do their utmost to make you happy even if a snafu can happen. In any case, we are there to make things easier and to arrange our customers.

Shipping Fees:

Contrary to others, we do not hide shipping costs in the price of our products. At GONG everyone knows exactly what he pays. The transport is charged at its strictest value, and the person who comes to pick up his products does not pay hidden transport fees.

Shipping costs are calculated according to the weight and volume of each package, and your delivery address. To this is added a labour time of order preparation.

The invoicing of the shipping costs is identical in continental France and in the bordering European countries. A surcharge is automatically invoiced for deliveries to the most distant European countries and all European islands.

For a shipment in French overseas departments and territories or outside Europe, our logistics department will contact you before the payment stage to give you an estimate of the shipping costs. You will be able to accept this estimate and pay your order, or refuse it and cancel your order.

Any questions:

We answer you within 24 hours by email. But 95% of your questions are answered on the site. Try to use our contact form which will guide you to all these answers.

Don’t forget to read the Forum, where thousands of users exchange information and experiences.

In any case, don’t panic. If you don’t get an answer during the weekend, it’s normal: the team is resting ?

We are passionate and professional in our job. Our only goal is to make you happy, as much as possible ?

Tracking of your parcels :

The tracking of deliveries is directly ensured by the carriers to whom we have entrusted your parcels. They will contact you by email or SMS to allow you to choose the delivery methods and to follow the route of your package.

If you ask us for this tracking, we will have to do as you do: we will go see on the carrier’s app because they are the ones who manage and are responsible for this job.

Delivery:

We collaborate with the best transport providers to deliver you everywhere in Europe and in the world in very short delays.

We have chosen them for their quality of service and their respect of deadlines. 80% of your orders reach their destination in less than 48 hours of processing in metropolitan and continental France.

For Europe, the delays vary from 3 to 6 days depending on the country of destination.

For the rest of the world, delays can be up to 15 days.

Please note that the transport time is added to the preparation/shipping time. Two companies work on your order (GONG and the carrier). Each one controls its activity and commits itself to optimize its delays so that you are delivered as soon as possible, in good condition and at a reasonable price.

Returns:

You can choose to return your products if:

  • You are not satisfied (14 days right of retraction).
  • You want to change an item.
  • You have refused your package.

5 reviews for GONG SUP INFLATABLE 12’6 COUINE MARIE RACE FLAT WATER

  1. Bruno

Great workmanship, well thought out boardbag, I love the wheels. The bag opens completely so it’s easy to fit the folded board in.
At 29′ wide, it is very comfortable and very stable on flat water. When there is a little choppy water you have to stay focused but it’s still very accessible.

The glide is really excellent, I broke my 5km record of 2mn (before I was on another brand, a rigid board in 12’6×28′)
So rather very very pleasantly surprised by the performance. The rigidity is very good, but let’s be clear, it’s still an inflatable so you shouldn’t ask for the dynamic qualities of a carbon board. While paddling you don’t feel it but if you jump on it (for example quick change of feet) then you can feel it a bit.

In light DW it works very well on small waves.
Buoy turns require a bit of technique but it’s not too complicated on flat water. It doesn’t turn super tight but it turns well. With technique I think it’s possible to turn tight.
Very little row effect (or even zero) and very good course holding. Top for an inflatable.

I love the colors but it’s very personal.
The small minus is the fin which does the job but in my opinion is a step below the finish of the board … it looks a bit “plastic” and moves a bit in the box. I didn’t notice it when on the water, but I think I will buy a slightly more upscale fin in the future. The Couine Marie Flat Water deserves it.

In conclusion, this is a board that does 100% what the program says. Versatile and fast, great for training, and for occasional runs for fun. It is very stable so the rest of the family can use it as well. Lots of fun and very pleasant performance, but let’s be clear, little chance of beating a 22” wide full carbon gun, we are here in the field of pleasure sport practice and not in pure performance.

Next stop this weekend with the Red Bull Midsummer Vikings challenge… 24h SUP race in relay (team of 5). I plan to use my Couine Marie Flat Water.
