Our team rider Sofia Marchetti won the Italian Freeride title in wing foiling!
The competition took place this weekend in the Calabria region in the tip of the Italian boot. To win the Italian Freeride title, competitors had to emerge victorious in the Slalom heats on production gear. Sofia was equipped for the very light conditions of the event with a Pulse Boom, a Cruzader, an HM85 mast and a Sirus L. She explains:
“The conditions were not excellent but we managed to race anyway, flat water with a bit of chop and a lot of current because we were facing the Strait of Messina. In the first race the wind was very light, no more than 8/9 knots. In the remaining races it picked up to 12/13 knots.
One of the rules of this freeride competition is to use standard gear. I used the Cruzader 6’0, an HM85 mast and the front wing Sirus L. There was a limit on the dimensions of the board, the mast and the front wing. During the event I was calm and I worked hard to bring home the victory. I’m not used to the conditions we had here in the Reggio Calabria, so I’m really stoked to have won the title of Italian freeride champion. It’s as much a win for me as it is for GONG. This result is yet another demonstration of how good their production gear is.” Sofia.
