GEAR: FLYING ON THE LANCE FSP 2X

You don’t have to be a professional waterman to get into surf foiling. Experience on a small surfboard and starting with the right gear are the main requirements. The Lance FSP 2X is the easy to paddle and tolerant board in the take offs that allows you to quickly discover the very addictive sensation of flying full speed over a swell!

 

 

When paddling on the Lance a surfer will feel right at home from the get go thanks to a comfortable volume and a width and length that remains within surfing standards. Paddling comfort is decisive when learning to surf foil because you are taking off on weak waves. And since you won’t be flying towards the peak at the start, your first flights will make you row even more, because on a surf foil you cover a long distance very quickly. Hence the advantage of a board that is easy to paddle with like the Lance is.

 

 

At the take off, the wide tail favors starting: three strokes of paddling and one pop will do the job. The rounded point nose, which lifts well, is also a great help to press on the front with the chest and to tilt down in the slope at the right time. Its nose rocker is heavy enough to drop with confidence. You can even go in bodyboard mode on the foams without risking a nose dive. This is the best way to get started without taking any risks, by catching a bit of foam that propels you in a flight on a wave that does not break in deeper water.

 

 

In flight, its highly refined kick tail, the facets on the rails and the double concave forgive the touchdowns on choppy waves or in tight curves. The board is short and very pleasant to ride. You can feel it’s lively but not crazy: the right balance to progress in confidence.
