HOW TO : wing foil JIBE !!!

The Jibe in Wingfoil is very much like that of Windsurf or in Kiting except the Wing can be neutralised so you can enjoy a wave or a smooth turn.

You have two major choices : switch the feet before the curve or after the curve. Generally in the early days we preferred to manage the curve in the “good” stance, (goofy for goofy, regular for regular). So your jibes will not be symmetrical at first.

But then you will know how to do the 4 jibes perfectly by working the symmetry. It comes very quickly.

To switch on a Foil, it is necessary to do a small pump (an impulse) which will raise the Foil during the time when you will have both feet up in the front. This will prevent you from touchdowns in the water.

The most natural is probably switch at the end of the maneuver and therefore to attack facing the turn.

The passage of the Wing is very natural, your hands move up the handles gently. The only thing to avoid is not let it go under the board by venting it. So do not make a turn too long, tighten it up at the end of the move. And attack with the Wing then lift it like an umbrella very early in the curve.

The keys for jibing a Wingfoil are :

– Check before the maneuver that your trajectory does not lead to a collision.

– Speed for support, which will facilitate your jibe.

– Before starting your turn, you must straighten yourself go from a one side the other.

– To switch your feet with as much balance as possible, lay the board as flat as possible and use the Wing as an umbrella.

– Begin your turn by leaning slightly on the rear hand on the Wing.

– Half turn, let go of the rear hand while passing the Wing in the half window and position the Wing of the opposite side and always with the front hand.

– Once your turn is over, change hands on the high handle and grab the low handle with your other hand.

Tips : Give a slight boost with the low hand before letting go of your Wing to make a faster and tighter turn. This is very true with the big Wing in the light wind.
