HOW TO: SWITCH BACKSIDE 360 SPIN

Easier to attempt, much more difficult to stomp, the switched stance variant of the Backside 360 Spin can be a nice way to get into the “simple” Backside 360 Spin though!

Trying its variation can help you figure out how to land the basic backside 360 spin. Making a Freestyle is all about trial and error. If it doesn’t work port tack, try starboard tack or in a different stance. You’ll learn something out of each attempt. Malo explains how to stomp the Backside 360 Spin in this full How To.

For the start in the switched stance, you just have to accept to throw your body forward… from the back… like a switch air jibe. Pick up speed in crosswinds and sink the foil to prepare for the pop. When raising the foil to take off, place your weight on the back to amplify the pop. Then, place the wing over your head. Let go of the back hand. Regroup your body and bring your back foot back until it passes the axis of the wind. Direct your gaze towards the landing area and cushion the jump by stretching your legs. On landing, the whole challenge is to find support on the wing by recovering the handles with your hands.
