There is no shortage of options in our wide range of surfboards if you want to indulge yourself with a board that takes off from far away and offers great sensations. Here is the example of Gaëtan who gives us a little feedback on his choice, the Carter 7’3 Origin.
“On rather soft or packed spots I was used to taking a stand up paddle (Mob or Karmen) because I realize that shortboards are really not profitable in these conditions. Instead of taking 3 waves per hour we’re non stop riding on a SUP, we select the best ones and we triple, or even more, the number of waves taken but it is not a surf … the feeling is different.
Under the advice of the forum and lack of availability in PU I let myself be tempted by the Carter 7’3 Origin. Its mission: to be able to replace the SUP while having the sensations of surfing without going for a longboard.
Firstly, it is splendid! Beautiful.
Paddling
Then when paddling it’s a bomb. The glide is incredible. We start as well as a longboard! We do not get tired of going up to the peak and finally with its volume the duck dives are going well and its inertia allows you to stay stuck under the wave while the wave passes over.
In surfing
Then in surfing, the drive is different from what I know, it’s not a shortboard, no need to pump it ruins everything! On the other hand we advance a little and there booom! It bursts and accelerates! To rotate and make a big spray, that’s what you need.
It therefore needs a wave that peels off a minimum to express itself, in relaxed old school mode! For the size no problem it goes everywhere and can handle steep waves! The advantage is that with such a glide you can position yourself correctly. ”
