ROLLER

A simple turn at the top of the wave, the Roller is not something innate in SUP.

Indeed, the size of the Board requires that it be manoeuvred with power.
To do this, you really need to use the Paddle. For all turns on the wave, it is simply necessary to use the techniques of turning on the flat with a Paddle.
Now that you have mastered all the turns on the flat, you just have to put them into practice on the face of the wave. To do this, it is necessary to accent the hold at the rail and the actions of the Paddle.
After a heavily engaged bottom front side turn, and resting on you toes with the Paddle in front of you, you continue the curve of the bottom by extending it towards the wave top, where you want to turn.

Just before reaching the top of the wave, you put the Board back flat and take the Paddle out of the water by sending it forward.
You plunge the Paddle well in front of the Board at the highest point of the curve you want to make your Roller and you engage the edge hold with your heels.
You pull as hard as you can on the Paddle like on a very big rowing stroke while carving as hard as you can up the slope. The action of pulling on the Paddle combined with that of the Roller will rotate the Board on the spot.
You may be surprised by the power of the curves because the effect the Paddle produces is incredible. It increases the pivot and increases the rotation of the Board tenfold.
Note that this turn at the top of the wave is strictly the same as a normal front side turn when on flat.
