Gluing the handle

Here is the classic method :

Take the measurements twice, just to be sure of your calculations.

Cut the Shaft very cleanly. Be careful not to force the saw so as not to delaminate the Shaft. Help yourself with a Painters Tape if necessary to follow this delimitation and cut straight.

Lightly sand the end of the Shaft to finish it cleanly.

Check that the Handle fits easily into the Shaft. If necessary, sand.

Protect the Shaft and Handle with tape. Do it carefully and generously.

Make your resin mix. The ideal is to do epoxy but it also works with polyester that will be faster and easier to work with. In any case, change it with micro balloons or other resin additives so that it becomes very pasty.

Using a thin stick, coat the inside of the Shaft with this mixture. Be generous but not excessive. 10 to 20 g will suffice.

Spread a thin layer of this mixture on the axis of the Handle.

Insert the Handle into the Shaft, checking that it is in the right direction! wedge it into the axis.

Allow the excess resin to fall and smooth the rest of the mixture with a wooden spread stick.

Make a nice joint and wrap it with tape if the resin is too fluid. This will ensure a smooth distribution.

The setting time of the loaded resin is often very fast. After this one, remove the tape.

Finish the joint cleanly. Check that it is waterproof. If necessary sand it a little so that it is soft to the touch.

If you put a Thermo Seal sleeve, it’s time to position it and heat it up. But’s let’s hope you though of putting it on before you did the glue job.

That’s it.
