FRONTSIDE RE-ENTRY

The wave closed out but you want some more? What about going for a re-entry to surf the last bit of power the wave has to offer?

This is THE move to challenge your foil management in critical situations. Any white part on the water is a disturbance zone that undermines the serenity of your flight; the foam of a wave being the greatest threat. You should therefore avoid approaching it if you want to stay out of trouble. But if you consider yourself an intrepid surfer, the re-entry is a good way to assert a kamikaze attitude! 😉

In order to fly over this zone of strong turbulence, you absolutely need speed, otherwise you will be swept away by the foam. You have to be strong on your legs and committed!
A wave that has just broken or is about to break is at its peak of power. It is therefore necessary to come in with power of your own to climb the wave. Go crescendo starting with small waves, but with enough water for your foil 😉 The power and the imbalances caused by even a tiny foam are likely to cool the ardor of the most intrepid of you ;).

Your pilot’s instincts must take over during the whole maneuver which boils down to a full-speed ascension, a spin at the top and a crash landing. Following the ascent carried by the speed generated on the bottom turn, the gaze that initiates all movements, redirects the upper body for a spin that sends you back to the bottom of the wave. This reorientation is essential because at this stage, the stalling of the foil is imminent. There comes the last phase, a more or less controlled crash landing. To transform the more or less controlled part into a rather well controlled one, being well centered above your board is important when the foil sinks under your feet. Sinking is only temporary as your foil will quickly make you take off again by regaining lift under the turbulence of the foam.

Remember one thing, a fall will only give credence to your intrepid style. So go for it 😉
