Why choose GONG kites?

We decided to reduce our margins on our kites in order to boost the practice. Indeed, wing foiling takes up a lot of space in people’s minds and in factories. However, it would be a mistake to deprive yourself of the pleasure and fantastic performance of kitesurfing. Significantly lowering prices as costs rise is a message of encouragement for the practice of kitesurfing.
Today evolutions on kites are no longer visible revolutions. Yet the details sometimes count more than the big ideas. Details are the basis of reliability, good feeling, precise handling. So nothing looks more like a kite than another kite without its decoration. And despite this, the differences between two kites are considerable, if only in our own range.

Telling you that R&D costs are immense in kitesurfing is a false truth. Yes, efforts are important because seeking micro-evolution is a job that takes time and calls for highly specialized profiles. But the bulk of the R&D on a kite was done and validated over ten years ago. This is what we are doing today with wing foiling and it’s also a huge expense.

So yes the Dacron increases by 45% on certain colors, yes the factories are overwhelmed with workload, yes we have sold 30% more kites in 2020, and yes we are lowering the price of our kites to encourage you to discover that our innovations have real results on the water.

How to choose the right kite based to your practice and your level ?

Your program on the water will decide which kite will be in your quiver for your next sessions. All of our kites are suited to beginners as well as experts. They’re only separated by their utility.

The Strutless

Unique design, this kite has no inflatable strut! What does this change? It drastically reduces the drag and makes it extremely light.

  • In kite foiling, it is a kite that allows you to accelerate constantly and go for crazy points of sail. In lightwind, it competes with foil kites (without the drawback of relaunch), especially thanks to its evolving ratios, which are higher for the larger sizes.
  • In surf kiting, the Strutless has a crazy drift and a great handling thanks to its lower ratio on the smaller sizes. A kite with less drag means more speed in your bottom turns and transitions. Wonderful in surfing!
  • In Twintip (TT), it has a crazy lift.

What size of Strutless?

The Unik

Extremely versatile, this single strut kite has extreme maneuverability, a very healthy ride and an intuitive drift.

  • In kite foiling, it allows you to be very underpowered while keeping a lot of stability.
  • In surf kiting, its wider tips give it great handling. A kite that can be underpowered in surfing because it generates a lot of power.
  • The versatility and ease of use of the Unik makes it a perfect kite in TT, no matter your level.

What size of Unik?

The Freewave

Our three-strut kite is particularly comfortable in medium to high wind ranges. Its profile handling is particularly reassuring.

  • In kite foiling, it allows you to go out in very high wind range.
  • In surf kiting, the Freewave shows all its potential, especially its stability qualities as soon as the wind gets stronger.
  • In TT, it allows you to go out safely whatever the conditions.

Reminder to choose your kite size

We remind you that kiting is a risky sport. Never go out in conditions that are too strong for your level / weight. Never overestimate yourself. Never practice alone. These wind ranges are for information only, but only you can decide on the day if you should go in the water or not. Please use the utmost caution. Respect the safety instructions inherent to the kite. Thank you.

Understand the differences of the kites and specificity

The sizing of the entire range has been revised to provide the perfect, well-balanced quiver that will allow you to cover all conditions. Each kite also benefits from its own improvements:

The Strutless

Our kite dedicated to performance in foiling. Our designers have reinforced the DNA of the Strutless by varying the ratio according to the sizes. The small sizes have a moderate ratio to be more playful, while the large sizes are ultra slim to blast upwind.

  • 3 fiberglass battens against one on the previous version in order to maintain the profile at high speed. Maximum stability in high range, and incredible performance upwind and high speed; while retaining all the lightness of a strutless kite. Better still, they facilitate relaunching.
  • The wing ratio becomes scalable according to the sizes to adapt the behavior of each surface to its favorite wind range. The larger sizes benefit from a very high ratio to optimize heading and Vmax in light conditions. Smaller sizes have a reduced ratio to boost handling on more choppy waters and therefore more playful. The ratios are between 3.8 for the smallest size and 6 for the largest (a classic wing is between 4.2 and 4.5).
  • The tip angle is raised to almost 90 ° for squarer ears. The kite is much more manoeuvrable, especially in drifting, lightwind and kiteloops.
  • The leading edge ends are now tapered to improve airflow.

The Unik

The Unik is our hyper light single strut kite for those who like to ride underpowered in foil or surf. The new Unik is punchier, more hardcore, more perf… but still just as light and formidable in low range.

  • The tip angle is raised to almost 90 ° for squarer ears. The kite is much more manoeuvrable, especially in drifting, light and kiteloops.
  • Increased diameter of the leading edge at the tips for more rigidity in big turns. Steering is more straightforward and responsive.
  • The leading edge ends are now tapered to improve airflow.

The Freewave

Our 3 struted kite with extreme versatility in medium to high wind ranges. Its program goes from twintip freestyle to heavy winded foiling and even strapless surf!

  • Mini battens are added on the trailing edge near the tips to prevent flapping when the kite rotates.
  • Slight increase in the ratio on all sizes and in the same proportions (4.37 on the previous version compared to 4.5 today). This increase in ratio provides control in high range, better lift in jumps, and more Vmax.
  • The leading edge ends are now tapered to improve airflow.

Understand all details in kite GONG technology

Technology Kitesurf kite Unik GONG

The GONG Kite is made in one of the largest Kite Factories in the world and meets the quality standards of the finest Kites in the world.

It is constructed with the greatest care. The Panels are cut by CNC and entirely assembled by hand by the best workers in the kite Industry.

The materials that we use are amongst the finest. We search for the performance for sure but also we look for endurance and for materials that are time tested.

  • Bridles made from Dyneema and Spectra with Ronstan pullys.
  • High quality triple rip-stop, Teijin T9669 (high stiffness, long lasting performances).
  • Leading Edge, struts, and tips made with Dacron Dimension Polyan DP175LL (the most rigid on the market and also the most costly).
  • Reinforcement patches in PVC 1680D along the leading egde and Struts extremities.
  • Bladders TPU 0,1mm for hardcore reliability.

A reminder, at the Kites weight – whomever the manufacturer – will vary following 3 main factors :

  • The more reinforced the kite is with concern to material thickness, the higher the weight will be, but also the higher the resistance to crashes and also the longevity of your kite.
  • The SPI is waterproofed by a coating process which preserves its performance in use. The thicker the coating, the heavier the fabric becomes, and also the better it ages over time session quantities. For the record, the exposure of your kite to UV and treated water will gradually destroy this coating.
  • Our kites are equipped with bladders that are 100 microns thick, which is among the thickest on the market. We could easily descend to 60 microns but this would substantially diminish the kites resistance to us : Nosedives, kitemares, crashes, overinflation, etc…

Which kite bar choose for your GONG kite?

In addition to the kite, we strongly recommend our bar, which is compatible with most kites on the market and perfectly exploits the potential of your kite.
